vaccination decisions are made on a person by person level for the most part. At least for adults.
I don't think that's the same thing as red states taking charity from blue states to keep up their standards of living. I mean agg and energy subsidies alone are bloody enormous. That's not decided on an individual level like vaccinations are.
it's a spectrum though, of course.
Energy subsidies for fossil fuels are insignificant compared to subsidies for renewable energy, which are significant. You still live under the illusion that oil and gas companies receive significant government funding, which is a lie propagated by the left.
red-state texas is the national leader in renewable energy, from what I understand. So plenty of renewable subsidies going to those Rs. Renewable subsidies don't go only to Ds.

Yes they do. But that's another reason why it makes no sense to "complain" about "welfare" going to "red states."

They push the green new deal, but complain when the tax subsidies go to fund green projects in red states with more sun and less expensive land. A 500MW gas turbine plant requires 5-7 acres of land. A 500MW solar plant requires about 3,500 acres of land. A 500MW wind farm requires about 10,000 acres of land.
I didn't make a differentiated argument about gerrymandering. I have little or no idea whom it hurts/helps more. What I do know that, given the current state of the R party, every gerrymandered district that favors Rs is a threat to this country. That's simply not true on the D side.
And just to recap for the straight-up morans, AND those who also tend to roll their eyes at what they view as "extreme" comments about the R party:
1) Almost 2 years later, no proof whatsoever that the election was "stolen" from Donald Trump.
2) And yet if, as an R, you state this fact - i.e., you don't tell a clear lie - you stand a 100% chance of being viciously attacked by Trump, fellow R politicians, and tens of millions of Trumpers. And depending on your district/state, likely a much, much diminished chance of being re-elected.
Simple facts. Unthinkable as recently as 2016. This is where that party has gone. Wanna tell yourself that this compares to tolerance for transgenderism, or (possibly) marginal differences in crime or illegal immigration, or student loan forgiveness, or....

It's very important to remember that liberals are the dumbest people alive.
Congressional redistricting — the process of redrawing the nation’s 435 congressional districts to reflect the results of the 2020 census — is not quite finishe…

Dems are complaining about green subsidies when they go to red states? I wasn't aware of that - maybe you could document it for us.

you have to be very careful when analyzing the effects of gerrymandering - the courts have tossed out so many D gerrymanders that they lost many of their adds.
in other words, date matters. That article could have been written when the Ds were having successful gerrymanders. Before the courts tossed them. The picture now and in November might be very different than this article describes.

It's included in the Rockefeller institute studies you guys love to post over and over again. I'm not sure the what the actual breakdown is.
That's from 6 months ago, when redistricting was still going on, and changing polls can always change these estimates.
Point is, according to 538, they estimate Republicans need a +0.5% advantage to have even odds of winning a majority of seats. Or put another way, if the overall vote total is equally split, Democrats are more likely to win. That implies a slight Democrat advantage with the current map.

the article is moot - it was written in March 2022 before the NY gerrymander was tossed out on its ear. Ignore the article. It means nothing or next to nothing. I suspect Rs have kept their gerrymandering advantage after all the D court losses - Rs are more ruthless and did a massive amount of it 10 years ago. But I don't know the current status.
April 22, 2022, 8:53 AM EDT / Source: Associated Press By Associated Press ALBANY, N.Y. — New York state Democrats engaged in gerrymandering when drawing new congressional district boundaries for the next decade, a panel of five mid-level appellate judges ruled Thursday. In a divided 3-2 ruling, the majority found the congressional map was unconstitutional — a decision that, if upheld, would block the use of those district lines for the upcoming midterm elections in November. The court found Democratic lawmakers acted within their power to approve the maps, after a bipartisan redistricting commission failed to do so earlier this year. But the judges ruled the 2022 congressional map itself “was drawn to discourage competition and favor Democrats.”
WASHINGTON — The founder of the far-right Oath Keepers was recorded days after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol saying his "only regret" about that day is that the group "should have brought rifles," federal prosecutors revealed in federal court Monday. Opening statements began Monday in the seditious conspiracy trial of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes alongside Kelly Meggs, Kenneth Harrelson, Jessica Watkins and Thomas Caldwell. Other members of the alleged conspiracy will go on trial in November. The Justice Department alleges that Rhodes and members of his organization plotted to oppose the peaceful transfer of power, stockpiling guns in "quick reaction forces" just outside of D.C. that could be brought into the city at a moment's notice

You just complained about blue states subsidizing red states.

naw that's not where I'm coming from.
I don't mind my tax dollars supporting needy red states even though their inhabitants loathe my very existence and don't really consider me American. From my point of view: one nation, indivisible etc. The m'agas need help and I'm happy to give it.
What I DO resent is when 'conservatives' try to portray the Dems being the takers and Repubs being the makers. When the Ds go to college, work hard, pay the taxes and hand it over to HS educated m'agas. Portraying Ds as wanting endless handouts and Rs being the workers is the 'conservative' line. And it ticks me off to no end when the 'conservatives' pull that out, so I'm pushing back against that narrative.
But green energy subsidies to m'agas in TX? Fine - no worries.

But I cited evidence today that Democrats benefit from gerrymandering. It's right there on 538's projections.
I'm aware that some Democrat redistricting maps were thrown out in the last 6 months, but it seems that *despite* that, Democrats are still projected to get a net benefit from gerrymandering.

You’d have to prove to me much of a D improvement…losing NY was a massive deal. That was supposed to be the big equalizer but it went to zero. You can’t just shrug about losing the NY gerrymander. Changed everything in the favor of the Rs.
the wildcard is that no one knows how the Hispanic vote will break without DJT on the ballot. Hard to predict gerrymanders until we know that.
dave WasserMan might the the expert on this and sees the NY and FL redistricting awarding the Rs 3-4 seats.
Three months ago, it looked like a category five hurricane was heading for President Biden and House Democrats clinging to a flimsy 221-214 seat edge. Today, not only has it weakened to a tropical depression, but GOP primarie...

This data has shifted, but Republicans still on average earn more than Democrats. That's why the studies you cite always aggregate everything at the state level, which is what you complained about joe of doing re covid stats. BTW, high school educated people still do quite well in this country economically. It's the ones who don't even finish HS that really struggle.
