She has been injured for 6 months and has not raced at all. Expecting her to run 14:50 would be a stretch.
She is likely running the Trials for the experience, not as a realistic shot at the team.
She already ran the 2022 and 2023 Usatf meets. Not sure how much more learning she would need.
On the other hand, Touhy is old school and feels responsibility to show up at an important meet. I would assume, however, that she believes she can be competitive.
On a similar note, I would not be surprised if Touhy became a regular participant in USA cross country, sort of a ladies side Chris Derrick.
I would LOVE it if Tuohy competed in Pro Cross Country! (I think she would too. However, those teams don’t “train” together, so not the same thing that she loves).

I had mentioned years ago that I see her as a Lynn Jennings - type. Just LOVES cross country.

Tuffy also said something to the effect that she has had a big gain in fitness over the last month
Avoiding the issue. The post states, "She will not be racing the trials. She is nowhere near ready right now." This was May 29, seven days before entering the Trials. It sems if she "had a big gain in fitness over the last month" then there would be no reason to say she is "nowhere near ready" three weeks later.
The point is this is the same BS that astro has thrown around about Valby for two years. Many dozens of times he has referenced her supposedly inhuman ability to recover from injury. But somehow Tuohy goes from "She will not be racing the trials. She is nowhere near ready right now" to entering the Trials only days later. Sounds like quite the incredible recovery from a supposed injury that kept her out for six months.
And this all happened shortly after a trip to the runner's mecca of Austin, Texas, to spend time with a person who is highly suspected of being a PED user. Even former bodybuilders who admit to using drugs post videos discussing how his blood work, etc., was similar to theirs when they were using. If Valby would have done something like this, astro would have made hundreds of posts about it and would never let it rest.
His "red flags" are all pointing at Tuohy right now but he chooses to ignore them and throw mud at others all day, every day, with ZERO evidence. If Valby is "suspicious" then Tuohy is at least as suspicious.

Well I should not speak for Tuffy but I would read this as their latest information on May 29 was from perhaps 3 weeks earlier, and then a week later they got an update. But I am not predisposed to read everything in the worst sense like some here.
I don't know what issue I was avoiding as my response was to Upperstate who posted
"Yes, we were aware of that article (it was noted earlier in this thread). After that article came out, our good source “Tuffy” (who is nearly ALWAYS correct on all things NC State and Tuohy), let us know that Tuohy WILL in fact be competing at the Olympic Trials (and she shows on the entries list now as well)."
I'm not sure where this comment comes from. It's not like she just resumed running in the last month. Who is to say with certainty this is unnatural ability to recover? I see someone just pedicted 15:30 for her so that does not agree with having recovered in some unnatural way. So again, which is it?
And now, after a trip to the Nick Bare Performance Nutrition factory in Austin, Tuohy has suddenly "shown a seemingly unnatural ability to recover from injury."
Tuohy is doubtful for the Olympic Trials after a hamstring injury derailed her winter and spring training. Her agent, Ray Flynn, confirmed to Runner’s World on May 24 that although she’s back to training now, she is unlikely to be ready in time for the Trials.
I am only speculating — so you may indeed be correct — however given the article above, I imagine her team would feel it’s more beneficial for her to gain Trials experience than waiting to debut only when she is in peak form.
Yeah it is pretty definitively reported she was out with hamstring injury. That was known on this board long before the article came out quoting her Agent.
Personally I hope she is not just running for the experience but in shape to contend for the team . Who knows though, a year is a long time without a track race. Glad she is able to get back in it.
Would love to see her fit enough to be competitive! Not to make this about me but I once had a pretty nasty hamstring injury doing speed work and it took me well over a year to be able to train at full strength again. I was unable to do any speed work, hills, or strength training of any kind. It did some damage. Not sure if it was reported how severe Tuohy’s hamstring injury was, though.

Thanks rbtrackfan. Why’s it so hard for folks to understand?
Let her run, be excited that she’s “okay” enough to run!
If later we find out that something is amiss, well then we deal with it then.
In the meantime, let her run and be excited! (I am).
