I agree with you, but maybe the company wants a full overhaul and Brosnan creates buzz?
With the current financial situation at Nike, I wouldn't be surprised if they disbanded both clubs. Schumacher and Flanagan have full-time jobs at Oregon. If Colorado hires the Malones, then would Nike use their influence to get Julian hired on in Boulder? I believe that he already lives in Denver most of the time. He might be better suited to coaching college kids than pros.
Funny enough I think Brosnan is better suited coaching pros than college.
You people are delusional. Take a look at Pete Julian's resume and compare it to Brosnan's. Despite the fandom, the reality is, he has 5 years of experience coaching high school and 1 year coaching in college. He has never coached anyone at a national level. They are not going to hand over one of the top pro groups to Brosnan. The list of coaches who have accomplished far more is lengthy. As an example, Quintana got a group started along with his college gig and has a way more impressive coaching resume. Do you have any idea how many other coaches are similar to him who are way more qualified than Brosnan and come with a whole lot less baggage?
I'm not sure if he's just not interested or nobody has given him a chance, but his best path to have a pro group would be to either a) be an assistant for a pro group (like Mike Smith) b) establish a track record of success at the college level as a distance coach, or c) coach a couple lower level pros and get them to a nationally competitive level.
I guess it's possible that some shoe company would give him a small budget to get something started since they seem to be doling out NIL money like it's candy, but I can't imagine what high level pros would be willing to bet their livelihood on a coach who has never coached someone faster than those he's coached so far.
Before I get attacked, I'm not a hater, don't have an axe to grind, am not jealous, but just trying to be rational about the reality of his position.
and for the reasons you spell out, I would have thought he would've swallowed his ego (that's a lot to swallow, from all indications) and pursued a job at a mid-tier Division I or even a Division II or III university.

Let me add one caveat. I could imagine a world (although still a slim chance) where Nico and/or Colin would have Brosnan coach them. If he gets one or both of them, it wouldn't totally shock me to have a couple other former teammates or other pros sign on to train with Nico and or Colin. However, if both of them pass on Brosnan as a coach, I REALLY can't imagine any other pro signing up. They are by far his best chance to get a pro group going.

Brosnan definitely changed the US High School running scene during his time at Newbury Park. He made a quick impact at UCLA in just one year. A lot of pro coaches had less success then Brosnan. I actually think Brosnan had his High School kids running faster than Pete Julian’s college athletes at Metro State and WA State. There is a long list of successful coaches who coach pro’s with slim to no coaching experience or less then Brosnan. Some of these coaches had a pro running career but not much actual coaching or little success when they coached. They all turned out to be sold coaches for pros.

I’m missing a bunch and we can do this all day if you like. My point is that Brosnan is good for the sport and actually has a personality and good coaching skills. He would be a great addition to any pro group or his own group. I hope these rumors are true and he has something this fall.

I think you're grossly underestimating the resumes of your list of coaches (other than Pete Ray who I'm not familiar with). Also, most of that list started with my options b) and c).
You may like Brosnan, or believe in him or have faith that he could be a great pro coach, but it's not based objectively on his resume. Coaching a high school team for 5 years, as talented as they were, is not the same as coaching pros. His one year at UCLA didn't prove much one way or another, but did give a glimpse into his inability to get along with others and follow rules. If I was someone wanting to make a national team or break 13:00 for 5k or 4:00 for 1500 as a woman, I would think there are many coaches out there who have coached athletes at that level as opposed to taking a gamble that a coach who's never done it can get me there.
Maybe you're right. I guess we'll find out, but I highly, highly doubt some company like Nike is going to put him at the head of a top group and I find it even less likely that top pros would put their faith in him as their coach with all the more proven options out there.

by the quote “4:20 is not fast for a high school mile. It’s just not FAST. And if they believe that, they’re gonna start thinking that it’s a state of mind.”
It is IDIOTIC to think Brosnan would get an official pro group before someone like Ben Thomas who coaches Hocker and Teare. Right now Thomas doesn't get paid by Nike but definitely deserves his own pro group.
My point is that Brosnan is good for the sport and actually has a personality and good coaching skills.
Did you see his youtube hype video for the UCLA 2023 XC season (before his contract was not renewed)? It was the laughing stock of LRC for weeks. It was pathetic and cringeworthy. He has a personality, but it's not an interesting one.

There is a way longer list than just Ben Thomas. Eyestone? Rob Connor? There are so many college coaches who have been doing it at a high level for a long time that are way more qualified than Brosnan. Bottom line is, Brosnan is a cult hero for Letsrun and his popularity clouds people's judgement of where he actually stacks up in the coaching world.

No need to defend a great coach. The better you are the as an athlete or coach the more Letsrun anonymous basement dwellers break out. Brosnan is a legend and some people won’t be happy until he coaches an Olympic gold medal. Even then he’ll get ridiculed. Shocker and great coach getting slack on here 🤣

Case in point from my previous post. "Bottom line is, Brosnan is a cult hero for Letsrun and his popularity clouds people's judgement of where he actually stacks up in the coaching world."

Imagine if Mark Wetmore thought retirement did not suit him and coached a pro group for 4-5 years. That could be very interesting.

Not likely someone or anyone wants to run for Wetmore as a pro. Great career but too old and outdated.
He had a great run, but not a good fit for a pro group at this point.

Nonsense. A lot of pros I know would consider running for a Mark Wetmore group as a pro coach. He knows how to adapt to new training wrinkles, and he didn't suddenly and forget how to coach.
We have been hearing about this pro group SB is starting for almost a year (since he got the boot from UCLA) and nothing has materialized. No A level runner is impressed with SB’s hs coaching resume.
Brozzie coached 2 talented families. He did not coach the girls. Seymour ran slower under him. The Young Twins and AS have not had good college campaigns because he overraced them in HS. His tenure at UCLA was a disaster. Compared to coaches at Crater, Jesuit, Rocky Mountain, etc. who have had SUSTAINED success over YEARS and across runners, Brozzie is simply a flash in the pan. He also recruited. Every 'positive' comment is from him under different names. There are about 1,000 coaches a pro would choose before Brozzie. Oh yeah none of his 4 runners selected him at UCLA to coach him so there's that.
