Why do some site list Lagats 3:27.4 as the American record when he competed for Kenya at the Olympics 3 weeks later?
Because he was already officially an American Citizen at the time he ran it. He just hadn't told anyone yet. I'm not saying it should or shouldn't be the record. Just saying that he was a citizen when he ran it and that is why some sites state it as the record.
Barring any injury that has to put Jakob as a heavy favourite for worlds. Pretty much everyone who will be in the medal conversation was there. The only person missing who I can think of was Wightman and he’s missing because of an injury so will probably struggle to repeat his exploits from last year. That was very impressive.
He's not losing in Budapest (yes, unless ill or injured). Truly nobody was in it today. Jakob was not threatened, even a little. Katir looked like he was about to pop and the other guys cannot hang close enough to bother him, even if they can close a little faster, which by the way, THEY CAN'T!!
I expect some coping but that 1500 was far outdone by the 5000. #19 all time vs #6 and #7.
Not so long ago, a guy like Kiplagat could go 3:27 and you barely notice because Kiprop's around. Gotta admit the newer elites nickel and diming their way through 3:28 doesn't make 3:26 look close at all.
Katir didn't even PR but will still get more doper talk compared to Jakob.

Measure that track!
I am mostly impressed by nordås 3:29. By how many seconds did he improve?
Everybody ran wickedly well. Is it the shoes or something in the Norwegian Air? The bislett track is not known for modern supertimes like for example Monaco...
USATF recognizes Lagat's 3:27 as the NR. But they changed the rules so such a performance would no longer count as the NR. And they also didn't ratify Lagat's 3:27 for many years until it was pointed out on the message boards a few years ago, immediately before the rule change.
Narve Gilje Nordås in tears after sub 3:30. Was close to burning his shoes on a bonfire last year. I remember a discussion here where someone said that Norway doesn't have anyone else than Jakob. Well.
Hope this race also closes any discussion about someone not named Nuguse is US best hope in the 1500m.
