Who will be the new head coach of the Guelph program ?
Who will get the AC money now that it has been pulled from Guelph?

Despite the fact that the same culture is manifested from Kerr as the associate coach for the last years he is likely going to get it. They can't deny it's a systemic problem if they don't promote from within the program.
trackie has some rumours going on about this right now...seems they might be stealing one of windsors top assistants
Are you the person who posted that on Trackie? People are just spewing crap with no actual info to back it up.

Agreed, that the bid-rigging it speaks not only to DST's unscrupulous side but also to AC's complicity in working with him. However, I would agree (as, I suspect, would Boyd) that the discussion has gone down a bit too far of a tangent in looking at that incident(s) again. The conversation here should be re-focused on his greater sins - from his abuse of athletes to the potential crimes purported here.
All correct. It's basic rule of institutional life that the more someone gets away with, the more emboldened they become-- and the DST of the 2014-16 period, the one with imperious disdain for colleagues and their programs, had 10 years of impunity under his belt, having gotten away with the one thing that, in this line of work, will get you fired, on the spot, and with no recourse whatsoever. And that AC risked all that money and reputability on a guy whom they must have known had the sword of damacles hanging over this head is mind-boggling. You think they would have at least asked a few questions before anointing him president-for-life of Canadian distance running. And, remember, this was all after the Ron Bowker fiasco!
And how can anyone with serious involvement in the sport after 2005 not have heard the rumours? I was just getting into intercollegiate coaching in 2010 when someone with knowledge of the Guelph scene told me matter-of-factly about it, albeit preemptively. He said that "some crazy girl had imagined a relationship with Dave, and then went all Fatal Attraction on him" but that it was settled now. It was only when I related this story to someone with real knowledge of the situation that I was set straight. So, I found out about it without even asking, and without having spent any time in Guelph, or having known anyone from the program closely. It strains credulity to think that there were not dozens of people-- from senior athletes, to coaches, to administrators, to AC itself-- who did not have varying degrees of knowledge of it. Out of respect for the victim's right to control the process of disclosure, should there ever be a disclosure, I said nothing. But, I had no direct knowledge and no immediate professional duty to act. This simply cannot be true of everyone who knew. People do bad things, but they typically don't get away with them for 14 years without at least some help. Indeed, every time a story like this breaks, we learn that they've typically had rather a lot of help staying out of trouble. In this instance, I guess we'll see soon enough.
SB, should AC fire Rob and Peter? Would that be enough blood to satisfy your thirst?
So quite a few of you OUA douchebags knew about this and kept quiet?
SB: your ‘sword of damacles’ and ‘ president-for-life of Canadian distance running‘ lines are awesome. I love it.
AC and all of DST’s stooges are going to end up looking like all those Penn State coaches.
So who now wants to be coached by Anthony Romaniw, Eric Gillis, Reid Coolsaet Et al?
Have they interviewed:
Jacqueline Gauthie
Michelle Basu Roy
Kristina Rody
Julia Beniusis
Liz Forbes, Serena Jennings and Laura Moulton

To me , SB sounds like the voice of reason here .
So you knew DST was doing something unprofessional, unethical, possibly illegal... and did nothing?
You’re a coach in the same sport, in the same conference, in a univrsitu town much like Guelph just a few short hours away. And you compete in the same meets.
No “professional obligation”? What about a moral obligation?

Actually, she is not crazy. She is an exceptional person who lives her life with a great deal of passion. Why not have her coach the system at Guelph, and empower women to reach their full potential.
I will never post on that site again after they restricted posts on this topic.
LOL, so only women can coach women?
As for the person who said all OUA douchebags kept quiet, ya most people knew, I knew, but you never really know, you only know of the rumours and theres lots of rumours about every coach and most arent true....you cant exactly go up and be like hey coach did you do this and expect a real answer...amidst all the rumours Ive never heard one girl or guy complain, just rumours of a relationship not an assault...happens way more than you think, and its almost always an inappropriate relationship not an assault.
please interview Rachel Cliff
I think it would be unethical to report something that SB heard secondhand without at least consulting the victim first. Also the rumor that I heard (secondhand) was that there was an investigation in 2005 and that the victim and family decided that they would rather not pursue things and just leave the program quietly. A public inquiry into this is probably hard enough to through 14 years later. I could not imagine what it would be like for a 19 or 20 year old pre-metoo.
I also think it is possible that many or most athletes and Coaches in the Guelph program did not hear anything about this or if they did it was in the form of easily dismissed rumors. I doubt DST or the Victim were going around telling everyone at Guelph what was going on. It is probably more likely that people outside of Guelph knew more.
Does anyone know what the expectation was in the early 2000’s around University or club coaches in Canada regarding dating 20-year-old athletes.
These days we are very aware of imbalance of power, fiduciary duty, and that sort of thing is well codified.
However, 20 years ago was it a fireable offence for a 35-year-old coach to have an affair with a 20-year-old athlete? It would’ve obviously been thought of as entirely distasteful, but would it have been something one could move on from and stay employed?
An adult coach with a 17 year old girl? Illegal then and now.
Fiduciary duty? Outlined clearly in Roman times. THOUSANDS of years ago.
Shake your head!!!!!

Just an FYI - the age of consent was 14 back then and is currently 16.
