Meb just said he had to stop and throw up (interview on NBC NY). Happy about his PR.

BUt I do think Geoffrey has earned it. NO pacemakers, destroys an elite field that has Emmanuel, Tsegaye and Geb Geb.
ONly Geoffrey can do it.
KIspang, I am sorry.
I concur.
I feel bad for the fourth guy who's most probably Wilson Kipsang. Mosop too.
@NativeSon. If AK don't pick him it will be an effing TRAVESTY and I'll personally set a protest camp at Riadha House. That boy deserves that ticket.
E. Mutai goes home $500,000 WMM title plus second place prize!!!

Plus $70,000 for breaking the course record. The top three are all getting this bonus.
If they brought the standard down to 2:08.59 the field would be extremely limited. How many people have gone under that time outside of Kenya and Ethiopia? The olympic marathon is now less competitive than most of the major marathons because only 3 kenyans and 3 ethiopians can go. Although it would hinder America's chances of winning a medal I would personally love to see them expand the field and allow in more kenyans and ethiopians. It is a shame that sub 206 guys are sitting at home because of where they were born.
Jaguar1 2nd US woman.
Should make this board proud.
How many people have run 2.08.59 faster in the Olympics in all of history.
Good run Meb and Ezkias sesay.looking confident for upcoming trials on january.

Agreed. Anyone under a certain time on a legal course (not Boston) should be automatically qualified, for example anyone under 2:06m or 2:22w.

Great job especially with the short recovery3rd USA behind Pritz debut 31;52 and Fleshman 37:23I think this is 5 sub 2:45 marathons in a year+the heat and altitude PanAm raceHey any can any of the Let's Run guys top that? OK ya don't have to make an American team to crow. But wearing gear from a USA International Team that you EARNED must make you very proud!

There was a HURRICANE AT THEIR HEELS! IT WAS PROVEN RIGHT HERE ON THESE BOARDS! They gained 5 minutes of advantage!

Maybe now people will shut up about how aided Boston was when he ran 2:03:02. Geoffrey just stomped Emmanuel by almost 2 minutes. There's no question about who was the better marathoner today or last April.
I have another idea. Let anyone in to the Olympics who finishes in the top 5 of a major the previous calendar year.
This probably means, of course that there'd be 15 Kenyans in the Olympic marathon, but, right now, that's probably about the number there ought to be.

Good for them, all deserve it. Good for Meb and the other Americans as well.
Thanks Rojo for the updates!
I ran in the same conference as Ed Moran in college and couldn't be happier for the guy. Just got back from watching the race and he looked extremely comfortable both times I saw him early and late. Amazing race by both him and Mutai. It was a pleasure to watch.

You realize Meb has an Olympic silver medal, and he's never broken 2:09, right?
Think before you speak.

So, great debate, would Mary have won if she had not run like a fool? Why do elites still make elementary mistakes.
Kids ......just dont go out too fast.
I wonder what a white person would run if they didn't run by Garmin or any other clock. I guess they don't care because they don't need to worry about winning anything or testing their limits they just want to run fast enough so some company can justify using them to sell a crapload of stuff to white people who are all obsessed with running "intelligently" but who never actually win any distance races of significance.
Which means to get a silver medal, you have to beat at least 2 out of 3 of the Kenyans.
Thanks to the BrosJo and all others who contributed to the thread. I came to it late, and actually worked back through it--great way to "watch" the race. Thanks!
