A GAO study showed that ~800K workers would be lifted out of poverty with a $15 minimum wage AND over 1.5M would lose their job. You can’t legislate wealth
Any monetary gains would likely be offset by inflationary pressure created by the policies themselves.

I thought the same thing Graham did. Which is why I didn’t vote for Trump in the primary or general elections. And amazingly pre pandemic the world hadn’t ended. Actually when you look at meaningful results lots of good things had happened. Things that matter to me like a good economy with opportunities for ALL Americans. That’s when I realized how bad the Bush and Cheney Republicans were. Not to mention how bad Dim policies were.
I’d prefer DeSantis over Trump in 2024…some of the same policies without all the noise. Not to mention he’s way smarter and more strategic than Trump. Biden is an old school Dim using public money to get himself re-elected because he has no policies that work. It’s sad that you can’t see the correlation between all the actions he’s taken and the resulting negative trends. They started almost immediately and it’s really as clear as night and day.
"clear as night and day"
Aren't you the guy who said yesterday a lot of the economic stats aren't making sense right now? But it's clear to you as night and day is clear that Biden's policies are failing. That makes no sense.
Anyway, with the deficit falling like a rock, the nation at full employment, inflation falling, the economy growing 6% last year, the dollar strong...I think saying that the results of Biden's policies are clear....doesn't mean what you think it means.
Job growth in August missing expectations…badly. 132K jobs

and that's how you should treat his ideas.
Studies show that the average return on the monies contributed to social security is around 1% per year. That’s not a good return for money that’s invested for decades. So giving people a poor return on their investment is a good idea in your mind?

Why can't you defend the minimum wage argument without changing the subject?
because there is no answer to the minimum wage argument. You could trade studies all day and never have any more understanding of what would be best for the largest amount of people. Dueling studies is stupid internet.
What I do know is that distrusting conservatives on economic benefits is usually the right way to go, given their history of always refusing to help the little guy and preferring to help rich people, business owners, etc.

ok great idea. Let Americans do their own investing and let them starve when they lose all their money by selling low and buying high for their entire careers. Great idea. (massive sarcasm)
Dems keep climbing in the generic ballot. Up to D+0.7%
Highest in almost a year.
Getting worried, insurrectionists? That Chuck Schumer will likely be running the show for another couple years is good news, right? Because you have been instructed by the 'why is everyone so mean to me' guy to hate Mitch.

Debating with facts and studies and data is the best Internet. Not strawman arguments or saying "the issue is too complex to me so I'll default to my partisan prejudices instead of actually thinking about it."

I don't really disagree with what you are saying here but minimum wage is a particularly fruitless debate topic. What might work in Seattle might not work in Big Fork. So on this one...I will indeed rely on my partisan prejududices. For others I will do more open-minded work.
And anyway, so very very few people who have any financial responsibility get minimum wage that it;s almost irrelevant.
Dude, everyone is hiring. Even fast food places are advertising starting pay at $15 - $20 an hour.
Stop blaming everyone else for your problems, there’s a job there IF you want one.
Yep. Whenever someone wants to disparage the sitting President when they have a low unemployment rate, they ALWAYS bring up the Labor Force Participation Rate. SUCH BS and SOOOOO disingenuous.
In times of great bounty, the Labor Force Participation Rate would drop a lot. It's an interesting stat and is important when looking at potential tax revenue that isn't being collected, but it says very little about the health of our economy, and certainly doesn't necessarily point to a bad one if the rate is high.
Right now, everyone who wants a job can get one. Have you people walked around and looked at the people out and about in the general public? How on Earth is our unemployment rate at 3.5%?
The unemployed isn't an issue right now. If King Moron wants to say inflation is bad, then ok, but to make any mention of unemployed people when not only do we have record low employment right now, but more Americans are employed than ever before in our nation's history.
The unemployment rate is going to rise (I mean, it pretty much has to), and The Fed is doing its best to move that along. Really no need for concern until the rate tops 5% which is still considered "full employment" by many.
All this nitpicky economy talk is just deflection anyway.
The REAL issue is that these Trumper morons:
1) Support a POS criminal who invited and incited an insurrection to overturn our fair election.
2) Support a POS criminal who STOLE classified and top secret documents from the Federal Government and then refused to return them, CONCEALED them, and reportedly MIGHT HAVE destroyed some of them.
Some of them will lie and say they don't like Trump or that they aren't really Trumpers, but then they defend him to the ends of the Earth and bring up silly economic comparisons (that Trump loses at anyway).
It shouldn't matter to people who voted for Trump, even if he had the best economic record in the history of our nation, what he did up to and on Jan. 6 and then with the STEALING of documents that belong to the Federal Government SHOULD be absolutely disqualifying not only of any future office holding but also of his liberty and anyone's respect and support. Just pure insanity and/or stupidity for anyone to defend/support that Orange POS criminal. There are not words on this Earth to describe how dumb you Trumpers are.

Historically (since 1946), the party of the president in power at the time loses 25 seats in the house of representatives during the midterm elections. Given that we are in the midst of a recession, crime spike, homeless crisis, drug crisis, immigration crisis, inflationary spiral, foreign policy fiasco, etc. I see no reason for that trend to change course. You can pull up whatever left-winged poll you want, the dismal performance of Biden's Administration will have voters pining for change in the next election.

I'm pretty sure that the Rs would win a lot more seats if they hadn't tried to overthrow the government and put in charge of their party an organized crime boss obviously guilty of putting national security at risk.
First Trump cost you the House. Then Trump cost you the Senate. Then Trump cost you the White House. Maybe you need to reconsider this Trump fetish.
You guys shot yourselves in your foot. Wish you hadn't but here we are.

Agreed that there is a real problem with "Hey, they were stupid so we will let them starve" argument.
So, just picking nits here - I don't think that "selling low and buying high" is the significant issue with letting people handle all of their own retirement planning/saving/investing. I think that the fact that millions of people will simply never save anything (and therefore never invest anything - wisely or otherwise) is orders of magnitude more important than whether they are consistently "selling low and buying high" (which, by the way, nobody can actually do, any more than anyone can consistently sell high and by low).

you could still force people into saving, like we do now with SS. You would still have the forced saving but let people invest the money as they wish.
That's where the terrible decisions would be made.

The reality is ALL of that is the result of the pandemic and then coming out of the raging part of the pandemic.
Biden has done some great things that will help veterans, high-tech manufacturing in this country, health care for more people, etc., BUT he hasn't really done anything that impacts the economy one way or another. Of course, the greatest thing Biden has done is whip Trump at the polls and unseat him as President.
