This story definitely never happened, at least not how you tell it, but the fact that you're trying to make yourself seem really cool makes you the biggest loser.

I was sitting by this guy on an airplane once. We got to talking about sports and how I ran in college and all that. He proceeds to tell me he ran the 3200 in high school in 8.12. Yes, 8 POINT 12. Obviously he means 8:12, and obviously a lie. He said he set the Texas state record back in the 80s and only recently someone broke it so his name wouldn't be on the record books. Moron.
And the Winner is Alexi Santana.
My story is kind of along the same line. Had a kid who would show up every day to our track in college and just kind of hang out. Never really talked to anyone but had a striking resemblence to Steve Urkel. He would show up about 4 times a week for a month. Well he finally works up the courage I guess to go talk to our coach about running with the team. So he walks up to our coach and says, You the coach? You need me out here, cause I am fast. I am faster than anyone you got. "Oh yeah, what kind of times did you run in high school?" Well I didnt run track in high school, but all my friends told me I am fast and I needed to run track. I was the fastest kid back in my 5th grade class"
Turns out the kid had never participated in organized sports, EVER. We had a pretty good laugh over that one.
That's got to be the funniest post on here, you're REALLY up on the news in and in the know dude! See you Monday with tales of Geb's great run on Sunday...or perhaps tales of Haile's great run on Sunday, either way...one of them should do well this weekend.

Biggest lie I've heard about running is that Haile and Geb are clean. Now that's a whopper.
I raced Daniel when he first moved to the DFW in the early 90's. All Saints Mile in FW. He told the paper he was shooting for a sub 4.
I won the thing in a rather slow 4:20 with Daniel no where to be seen. He may have run 4:28.
He was at best a 15:45 / 32:45 10k guy....
I remember Webb doing this s*** though... so isn't it possible?

The Article on UM this week explaining the michigan as as a 4:14 mile, 4:32 road mile, 3:04 1200, 4:32 road mile, 204 800, 4:32 mile, 53 400, all with little or no rest. There are about 10 guys in the world that could do that and none have ever run for U of M.
They are off on only the "4:32 road mile". They may have meant a 4:32 1200. The way I have seen it is "The Michigan" is run with a 6:00 mile between hard efforts, maybe they have modified it to 3/4 mile? A 4:32 1200 would be 6:00-pace. Could be that the reporter just didn't get running.
There is no "rest" between reps, you just go from VO2max or faster pace, right into aerobic running.
I was at the 2000 IL state track meet and I saw Don Sage run 8:42 3200m and a kid I new who was a Fr, sad I'll beat that time when I'm a Sr. I looked at him and didn't and know what to say. A 4:21 1600m is a great time for a high school kid, but a 8:42 3200m is a strate up man's time.
A guy(won't name any names) in my area thinks he is going to run a 2:28 marathon, when his best is around 2:45-50 and in his last 5k he could not even brake 5:40 pace, but he says its his strategy.
My sophomore yr in college I was talking to a friend on the xc team and he told me his RA said he'd run a 43 400m in high school. Naturally, I thought he was lying. Turns out I was right, after finding out who it was I realized the guy went to my high school, didn't even run track. He was a really nice guy and I could never see him lying, some people just don't have a clue. They believe this s*** they're telling everybody.
knew a guy in college doing a 4x400m workout prescribed by the "coach". the coach would tell him to "do his own workout" b/c he didn't care about him b/c he was a 4:30 1500m runner.
So he was telling me that he was runnnig his 400m all under 60 seconds so he was prepared to break 4 in the mile. I argued that breaking 4 was probably for the 1500m, and he would need to run his 400m in the 63 range to do that. The argument proved to be pointless b/c there is no way he even ran one 60 sec 400m. when we ran at the meet that weekend he ran 4:27 for the 1500m. He was so mad.
I knew a guy who swore that he could run close to a 2:00 mile. He was convinced that running a 30 second lap would be "easy" and that it was all about "how you move your legs". Apparently he had discovered some much more efficient method of running.
When I asked him why he didn't go run such a mile and set the world record, he said he just hadn't gotten around to it, and besides, it was a waste of his time.
Sad thing is that he was completely serious.
Had someone once tell me that "someone" would be able to run a 3 minute mile someday.
Avg of 45 sec per lap, for 4 laps? I don't think so. There are a handful of people in this world right now that can run one 45 sec or under 400m, how are they gonna avg that?
i got 2.
ok first one- i went back to see my high school coach this homecoming and he had an interesting story for me and my buddy who still run in college. he had a kid who had recently moved to our small minnesota town from washington and claimed to the other xc kids that he was the #2 runner on his old team that won the state meet the year before. so obviously the kids told our coach about him and so he called him to his office. the kid told our coach the same thing and then after talking with our coach some more he said he didnt want to come out for the team because we "didnt run enough miles" and becuase we were a low mileage team. this kid also claimed he could break our school records in the mile and 2 mile which were set by my buddy who won state xc got 2nd 4th and 7th in other years and also placed high in the mile and 2 mile and won the 2 mile his senior year at state. needless to say coach looked him up and the team he claimed he ran for won state but this kid ran jv and his times were no where comparible to our kids.
second one- my brother who is a sophmore in high school told other kids on his team (that i used to run for, i'm now running in college) that he was faster than me. they didnt believe him since they know me and have ran with both of us. he said i had never broken 5 minutes in the mile in high school and got called out on it by a kid who was in the conference race that i won my senior year with a 4:45. he hasnt claimed much since.
Yo son, doggin your bro, thats low.
This happened to me last week. A guy at Copelands Sports watches me picking out shoes, try them on, doing some high knees in them, and asks what event I run.
I used to run the 800 mostly, I say. Some 400's, some 1500's. Now I'm trying to get back in shape for cross country in the fall.
Oh yeah? he asks. What was your time for the 800?
My best time was 1:55, I say. But that was a long time ago.
Oh, I ran a 1:54, he says. But I wasn't as good in the 400 - what was your time there?
Around 51 flat, I say.
Oh, see, I only ran a 58, he replies. I was a lot better at the 8.
What a dumbass.
guy told me that he ran 10 miles in 60 minutes, in the soft sand at the beach, every day, and had already qualified for the Olympic Team in the marathon. I told him that, 'that was not how the Olympic team was made', but through a trial. He claimed the Olympic Committe had already put him on the team. He had the whole Sports Connection Club in Santa Monica, believing him. (he worked in the pro shop). I wanted to run a workout with him to show him up as a fraud. He kept coming up with excuses: (he did his workouts at midnight, was one).
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
