After the debate, you should say, no one would bet on Biden winning, but if he's healthy for a second debate and does at least as much as he did in the SOTU address this year, it'll be a dogfight and there are plenty of Trump issues still out there in the courts, despite the Supreme Court's worst efforts, to swing the moderates over to Biden.
The issue with Biden isn't whether he did a good job of debating Trump. The issue with Biden is that his performance at the debate confirmed what everyone had long been worried about. Biden is suffering from age related decline in is cognitive functioning (he is also increasingly frail physically due to arthritis in his back) and has crossed the point where it is clear he just isn't able to do the job. So, Dems are saying that this is the most important election in history because a second term for Trump might mean the end of democracy, but we all just have to go along with a sundowning 81 year old because he still has some good days.
Trump right now is doing 3-4 events a day where he will get up in front of huge crowds and do an hour plus long speech that gets his supporters whipped up into a frenzy. Biden mostly does private fundraising receptions with big donors and highly scripted and short appearances at campaign rallies and other public events.. He rarely spends more than a few minutes available to the press and never gives extended interviews or press conferences.
And there are no more moderates left to swing an election. Turnout and voter enthusiasm are what decides presidential elections. Trump in 2020 wore out his welcome by failing to deliver on his agenda (other than cutting taxes for the wealthy) and bumbling through the pandemic. Biden is in a bit of a different position in that his only mandate was that he wasn't Trump. So, going into 2024, he has to come up with something other than I am not Trump. He is not a popular president largely because he stays hidden from view and has not been out in the public fighting back on the issues.

You think for 1 second his team would agree to another debate? You must be as senile as he is! They are going to severely limit his time in front of crowds, only do brief interviews where he is given the questions beforehand, and brief rally stops with teleprompters and plenty of surrogates to give speeches on his behalf.
He has no choice. The ball is in his court, to prove he doesn’t have dementia, and it ain’t going away. His senior aids say he’s best between 10:00 and 4:00, so maybe the next debate should be over brunch.
He really has no possible chance of beating Trump and it’s ridiculously selfish of Biden not to step aside.
I listen to a lot of moderate-to-left political podcasts on my runs and most have been sounding a lot like Precious Roy. I think it would be very weird if he didn't step aside at this point. Sooner the better. Dems need to cut the politically correct crap and get a true candidate. Harris and Newsome would be immediate losers.
After the debate, there is no way Biden beats Trump. The electorate is still split largely along the lines of 2020. The Trump voters are very, very motivated and as organized as a group like them could be. They will not have a bunch of Dem voters switch over or attract a lot of independents because Trump 2024 is just Trump 2020, but really based and with swearing at rallies. What will happen if Biden runs is that Dem turnout will be sh$t and there will be enough votes for third party candidates to swing the close states to Trump. There are a significant number of Dem voters who are mad as hell at the party for trying to hoodwink them into believing that everything is ok with Biden.
If Biden is replaced, it almost doesn't matter who the replacement is. It will instantly energize Dem voters by sending a message that the power center of the Democrats is responsive to the masses and not a star chamber that decides everything and forces you to accept their choice or face another Trump administration.
Bad debates don’t mean anything. In the US, we have a two party system. You vote AGAINST the person you hate the most. You don’t need to like who you are voting for.
You are under the impression that people just won’t vote. That is dumb. The hate for Trump is too strong.

You need to get out of your cult a little more often.
Trump has a higher approval rating than Biden. The debate will make this disparity worse for Biden not better.

Why would staying with the guy, that appears to be no longer mentally capable of being president, be politically correct?
I’m a moderate democrat and I believe Newsom would destroy Trump. You believe that Newsom joining in, would cause votes to move from Biden to Trump? Really?
But it wasn't just a bad debate. Biden is not there, cognitively. People will not vote for someone who is unaware of what is happening around them. It is not a case of poor debating and bad answers. He didn't know what was happening half the time. It is sad. I feel bad for him.
President Biden stumbled and appeared to lose his train of thought as he discussed healthcare, while on the debate stage with former President Donald Trump. ...

This is 100% true. It's how Biden got elected in the first place. Nobody was excited about voting for Joe in 2020.
He should absolutely be replaced. However, if he is the candidate, people will hold their nose and vote for him. Nobody's switching their vote from Biden to Trump based on the debate. It's a Trumper fantasy.

What I mean is the thought that they can't move on to anyone other than Harris because it would look bad. I think people understand that she is not popular and it is not - in fact - an issue of race or gender (if they went with Newsome).
I agree with you that no one is switching from Biden to Trump. I think it is the case of a no-vote to a vote for the new candidate. My issue with Newsome is that he - as someone else said - seems like a sleazy used car salesman. I also bet there are skeletons in the closet there with the whole Guilfoyle marriage. I could be wrong. Just doesn't seem like the BEST alternative. But what do I know?

In 2020 Biden could pretend he was a moderate. Now that he has a record to run on no one who's been paying attention believes he's a moderate.

Each of those “frenzied” Trump rallies frightens me more than the last, and the word soup Trump spews frightens me most of all — frightens me more than Biden’s debate performance by a long distance. He hasn’t a single idea in his head other than “me first.”

There are plenty of LR echo chamber cultists who are STILL voting for Sleepy Joe.
Jill Biden refuses to give up being First Lady/First Babysitter. The DNC may have to pull a "Vito Corleone." That is to make her an offer she cannot refuse.

Newsom is a far leftist wackjob. No thanks. He's a young version of Bernie Sanders.

She's wildly unpopular. I don't see Biden's cabinet agreeing to hand the reins to someone no one likes that has absolutely no chance in November.
She's gone through dozens of aids because she's insufferable to be around.
I'd tend to agree with you, but a SurveyUSA poll done immediately after the debate asked who should Dems pick if Joe steps down.
Dem voters overwhelmingly chose Harris. 43% said Harris. 16% said Newsome, several prospects had single digit support. Pundits may say she has no chance, but voters say she's their first choice by far.
