Phenomenal production work by NBC to show us the top 4 jog the last lap in while the last spot was decided by one one-hundredth. Amazing work by Ellis
I know this is asking a lot, but with the major AI advances lately, I’m just gonna throw it out there- what if NBC could show the 400 and 800 splits in the 1500- WHILE the race was happening, like almost immediately. We would not have to look at our phones to see the live splits. That would be so cool.
Enjoy this people. I remember the lean years (90’s and 00’s), when a 3:40+ was enough to win, and 2nd and 3rd place were lucky to have an Olympic qualifier. That it took 3:30 to make this year’s team is just incredible, and so exciting.
I might put 2012 ahead of it. Manzano (got oly silver), Centro (already a medalist at that point, got 4th), Wheating (pretend he’s the Hobbs Kessler, young dude, except he had run 3:30 I believe)
2007 had Lagat, Webb (who came in with the fastest time in the world) and Manzano. But today was by far the fastest trials race in the US history of event. Four under 3:32 and 8 with PBs, including Hocker. A fantastic race.
While I wouldn't sleep on him for his 1:44 SB, I would like Nuguse's chance better. It's crazy he front-ran a 3:30 with a 53 last lap. I think it's as impressive as his 3:43 mile
I may be too optimistic but I think gold isn't outside the realm of possibility under the right race.
Jakob and Josh ran 3:29 with a 53 last lap in Budapest. Hocker and Nuguse ran great today but it’s a little early for gold medal talk imo.
Kessler looked calm and looked around down the stretch
Cole 3:30????
Nathan Green 3:32.2 is a second and half faster than Waskom !
What a race--god I love the 1500
I know I’m late posting for this but the 1500 lived up to the hype, and confirms that it is the best event in T&F right now (and I’m including the men’s 400h)
women's 100, 800, 1500, and 5000 have been producing great races with big names

And a reminder, the GOAT Jakob Ingebrigtsen, was ill so he would have closed in 52 and ran 3:27 to win Budapest.

I didn’t take into account what the team eventually did at the Olympics, only how strong the team was going into the Games.
We shall see on August 6th how this team compares!
"best" i suppose remains to be seen because medals matter. But this is the fastest team ever
Honestly w technological advances and globalization, hard for me to think you can even compare times.
that said even w the shoes and such it’s still pretty close-
Manzano 3:30.9, Centro 3:30.4, Wheating 3:30.9. Avg 3:30.5. If you are doing PR at time of qualification, it would be 3:31.6 because some of those came after the trials.
this time, Nuguse 3:29, Hocker 3:30.6, Kessler 3:31.5. Avg 3:30.4.
seems like he's just doing HJ at trials, although he did a lot of LJ this spring. I think it's wise to concentrate on high jump
yep he's on the HJ list but wasn't in the LJ field at all. Guess it makes sense, given his recent performances and with the long jump being first in the competition. Can't just go for it as an afterthought.
