After every regional, Jonathan Gault will be running Bo Waggoner's program to see who is in and out. He'll post the results on the live blog on the front page: https://www.letsrun.com/events...
NAU looked phenomenal today. Kang Nyoak finishing in 5th and beating Bosley & the rest of NAU, with the exception of Nico, was a surprise to me. If he can replicate this run in Virginia, I think NAU will walk away with the title. I think Prosser ran exceptional as well and I’m hoping he can replicate his run from last year. Colin Sahlman surprised me as well. 22nd is pretty good. I think he’s struggled with the 10K distance, but I think her performed pretty well considering he’s more of a 8/1500 guy
I do think that's probably it for Sahlman's season though unless Mike Smith still hasn't had him go all out. He hasn't had a breakout race like the other guys competing for the 6/7 spot on the team.
One of the 6/7 spots is probably decided though with Nyoak. Last one is Gorgas/Quax/(maybe Sahlman still)
pretty sure this is the lineup NAU runs at nationals. I was kinda surprised Quax/Gorgas didn't run today in what's their only 10k preview before Nats.
I thought Sahlman ran great today - finishes 22nd and is the last place finisher on his team. Geez. On every other team in the race he's one of their Top 5 scorers, including BYU. its just NAU's depth and talent. he was just a few seconds behind Hasty/Proser. that bodes well if one of them underperforms at Nats. he seems very capable of stepping up if they need him.
Comfortable win for Olivia here. Not sure if she has enough for 5th at Nats, though. Maybe.
Maybe she might do better on that course by first following Chmiel for a while, instead of the inverse?
Possibly. Markezich knows the course well and I'd think she and her coach will discuss tactics thoroughly. Bottom line, Markezich has to be within striking distance to kick down Chmiel/Stearns/Maatoug/??? in the final k.
Africa University is walking away with both the individual and team titles. It won’t even be close for the team title. To have Alex Maier a top 10 NCAA runner last year as your 5th/6th runner is ridiculous. Dennis K was playing with the field today and the rest of the OSU guys were out on a tempo run. A 19 point win at regionals running easy is all the writing in the wall you need. They will put all their 5 guys in the top 15. Mark my words.
Right now, it's Furman and Alabama who were projected to make the men's field but are not projected anymore. Don't think Furman has a chance.
goes to show why october doesn't matter in XC. Furman was 9th place at Nuttycombe earning plenty of KOLAS points and they finished 283 points ahead of NC State who was in 31st place. Today NC State got 3rd at the SE regional and finished 146 points ahead of Furman in 8th in a much smaller field.
Maybe it's just hope about Andrea Markezich being top 5. But she's nails. I captained ND XCountry - don't ask how many years ago - and have some contacts there. I guess she took time off after running at USA's and hear she's rounding into shape. She always seems to do well in big races and yes, she always has a great finish. I'm more worried about Siona Chisolm. She's injured or struggling for some reason. Still think if she comes around ND gets 3 or 4 at Nats. Don't get me started on the men.... Their last two races have been abysmal. Hoping for good things today. Solomon has not been in form this year and Methner looks like he is injured again. Methner won Footlocker but he has not had a full injury-free year in college. ND looks like they have the best incoming distance class next fall. Seriously - 4 or 5 studs. I call it the "Nuguse effect." He loved ND, talks about ND all the time and the next recruit thinks he can become him. But this year's team has to get it together. I am a fan and will never stop rooting for them but c'mon guys, show me something today! Good race everyone!!!
Didn't look like Valby was working as hard today as at Nuttycombe or SEC, but nobody knows except her. We can now predict Alabama natls strategy: stay 10 secs back, then try to run her down.
Don't get me started on the men.... Their last two races have been abysmal. Hoping for good things today.
Do you think they are really missing Coach Carlson? My goodness, what he has done at Tennessee in just 1.3 years. Amazing. I really wish he were back in South Bend.
