21.41's the world record in my book. Shameful that pre-testing era records block runs like that from getting the accolades they deserve
The World Record is 21.34. FloJo set it twice in the same day in 1988. She was tested. Period.
Random out-of-comp testing didn't start until 1989. "She passed competition tests" is meaningless, only a total idiot will test positive at a meet. IAAF/World Athletics set the sport back 50 years by not wiping the slate clean in 1989, we should have gotten to celebrate 21.41 and 10.54 as WRs
Why does US completely dominate other throws, but have no one podiuming in javelin ???
Americans are afraid of javelins. Banned at the high school level in many states, I think.
Rightly so, they can spear people. Tero Pitkamäki speared someone at an elite meet. Hammer is even harder to practice safely.
Spear throwing is an important athletic skill and should be kept, but hammer should be phased out and replaced with throwing a regular ball of some kind, like a baseball. Or someone design a ball specifically for distance throwing that will go as far as possible. That would interest the public.
I gotta say I love Tara Davis-Woodhall's & Anna Hall's personalities. Both of the genuinely glow and look like their having a great time while competing.
Aside from S. Jackson, all 200 times slightly slower than expected. Headwind shows 0.2 but wonder if it’s more.
Regardless, don’t think Noah was getting the WR even with a 2.0 tailwind today. Just didn’t get the turn he needed. 100-150 was great but 150-200 was just ok and didn’t get the same jump off the turn he got on his 19.31. Still work to do
It’s interesting, he’s set himself up now that he could win double gold in Paris, but never get the 200 wr and it will seem as if he failed somehow. Untitled is all about the record and winning the double in Budapest or even Paris is secondary.
The current female track athletes just don't have the kick that Florence had. If Florence ties her back to cut down on wind resistance she probably takes a few more seconds.
Having to ascend a flight of stairs to receive treatment is really stupid and poorly thought out. If someone is injured, the last thing you do is make them go up a flight of stairs.
I didn't claim she broke her leg.
If an athlete is injured, they can go in a wheelchair though the tunnel.
Gonna be hard for Bednarek to medal in the 200m in the future with Tebogo and Knighton continuing to improve. Very accomplished career, but I wonder what he can do in a 400m, he might be too big and solid for it though.

I don't think that will happen. The hammer is such an old event but yes, it can be dangerous. Just about any accident that ever happened with the hammer is due to negligence and/or poor officiating. A few years back a kid was tragically killed at a meet at Wheaton College in Illinois after getting hit in the head with a hammer. He was a student at Wheaton and was volunteering at the meet.
That is an event that I always wanted to try and think would be fun. As a kid we used to hold "track meets" in my backyard. We would have all sorts of events. One of the ones we had was the "hammer throw." We had a bike lock on a chain and that was the hammer. It didn't take long for it to go through the window of my neighbor's house and that was that. Luckily none of us got injured.

SMH......Still can't prove she used any illegal performance enhancing drugs. There were plenty of performances from the 80's and 90's that are still in the top ten all-time performances to this day.
35 years later, we still have folks talking s***. Prove it and have World Athletics take all her performances down, if not STFU!

Her retirement from the sport as soon as out-of-competition testing was implemented.
Her going from a 22.0x runner in 1984, to essentially retiring from sprinting, then in one year (1987 to 1988), ends up as a 10.62 and 21.34 sprinter, with a very "striking" physique.
Eye-witness accounts from fellow athletes/insiders saying she was on drugs.
If you really think FloJo wasn't on steroids and a crazy cocktail of PEDs, you're not living in reality, I'm sorry to say.

I think this year was a good setup for what to expect going into next year for the double. Hopefully he stays injury free and makes further progress in both events.
Question, do world champs get a bye into the Olympics or do they have to compete in the trials like everyone else?
