It has always been a way more believable story that Alberto is a creep, who's obsessive personality bled into wanting to control everyone in...every...way, than it is that Kara is a vindictive liar.
However two things can be true at once- Alberto can be a creep and can have crossed many lines however he could also not be guilty of crossing this particular one [ purposefully engaging in unwanted physical/sexual contact]
I agree it's more likely that he did, but I am by no means certain.
Just like Mark Wetmore might be both be
1] generally be a great guy who treats the majority of his female athletes with respect and proper concern for eating disorders, and
2] someone who crossed the line with certain athletes and pushed past the boundaries of proper attention to an athletes weight, creating a bad environment for those athletes and pushing them towards an eating disorder
Unfortunately Kara seems to hold no respect for those athletes' experience and "Truth" quickly backed coach Wetmore against their accusations.
It's fascinating but not unexpected-
when you are the Accuser or you feel kinship with the accuser you want the benefit of the doubt to lie on the side of the accuser and for justice to err on the side of punishing the accused.
But of course when you are the accused or feel kinship with the accused the reverse is true - you want the benefit of the doubt to lie on the side of the accused.
In reality it should always lie with the accused and that is why we have Beyond A Reasonable Doubt standard in criminal justice. Better to let a few guilty people off the hook then lock up or destroy the life of one innocent person.
Salazar has not tried to defend himself in these claims either verbally or legally. And that’s not just that he’s staying quiet while a legal team is building a case. This stuff is all years old now.
I personally would be fighting tooth and nail if I were falsely accused of SA and it led to me losing my career that took decades to build and my public reputation. Defamation law suits, legal action for my coaching ban, hopping on every news channel and podcast possible to share my side of the story..
If I were guilty, I’d go ahead and slide under the radar and no one in the public eye would hear from me again.
As much as I thought NOP was an awesome thing, one of the most exciting teams track and field has ever produced, all of this info slowly leaking out has made me realize it wasn’t as great as media/results had us thinking. Most NOP athletes have gotten a lot less competitive in the years following, females quitting the sport saying the program destroyed their mental health without going into too much details, and now these allegations that played a major role in his suspension coming to light (think, if this was the unfortunately common “claim SA for clout during a controversy” I’d think those claims would’ve been publicized when all of this was hot in all sports media, not just the track niche of things)
Salazar has been connected to doping allegations, emotional abuse, and now sexual abuse. Why people continue to defend him baffles me. Nike is such a shady organization.
His word against her and hers don't add up. Money hungry and cannot accept that her best days were with him. At first it was accusations of drugs. Then when that wasn't going anywhere this. She's mentally ill.....

He defended himself as soon as Goucher came out with this info publicly this week.
Was she married at the time? If so her husband did nothing? If he knew and didn’t go cave Alberto’s head in then he is a disgrace, and the evidence is he said vs she said? And coming out with this as the beginning of a book tour is laughable.
I think he's arguing that SafeSport has too much power, even though it cannot impose criminal penalties. Soft power is very, very dangerous, particularly when due process is denied on the grounds of protecting vulnerable people.
I'm on the fence when it comes to non-court entities making judgements about sexual abuse. On the one hand, it's very difficult to provide evidence of a crime that takes place in private; on the other, untrained people with an agenda can and do devolve into witch-hunting mobs. Such a system is easily exploited by bad-faith actors. If SafeSport's process were more transparent, people may be more comfortable with their judgements.
I believe Kara, and I strongly suspect that other female athletes came forward with similar stories. To those saying that it's unethical for coaches to massage their athletes: a coach has an interest in, say, rubbing T cream on athletes but has no more interest in sexually abusing them than anybody else. Maybe people are making the point that it's unusual and therefore suspicious behavior for a coach to also act as a massage therapist.
Predators often use legitimate activities as a cover for sexual abuse, whether doctors or coaches. The bad behavior escalates gradually over time after the predator has developed a caring relationship with the target, making it very difficult to parse. Women and girls are particularly vulnerable because the vast majority of sexual predators are men who abuse women. This is why I stick with women doctors, massage therapists, etc. Most men are safe, but one can substantially cut down on risk by avoding them in these contexts.
It’s a shame that you avoid men, simply because they are men.
Quite honestly, how is that improving culture or society?
Where did I say that I avoid men because they are men? I said that I go to women for professional services that require people to put their hands on my body while alone or otherwise vulnerable. Stop twisting my words.

The SA accusation has been out for more than a year now, just was anonymous until now. Was he just hoping it would fly under the radar?
So typically mealy-mouthed. An "inappropriate (only "inappropriate"?) coach-athlete situation" saw him banned for life. How appropriate. Given your previous defences of his doping infractions I'm surprised you aren't also extending him your "sympathy". But if we include his doping ban he does appear to have quite a record of "inappropriate coach-athlete situations".
Am I expected to offer my sympathy for "appropriate" situations, or for situations that she was "comfortable" with? Not sure what the faux-pas here is exactly, or if you are being artificially contrarian out of principle.
I also offered my complete sympathy for other reported situations, like a drunken attempted kiss on a plane, and public weigh-ins in underwear, and comments on losing weight after childbirth, etc.
What is so controversial here about widening the set of situations that I am sympathetic with?
As usual, your "sympathy" is overwhelming. "Inappropriateness" is such an emphatic expression of disapproval and is usually employed by diplomats to avoid speaking the unvarnished truth - which in this case was an unequivocal sexual assault. I can hear you describing Russia's war on Ukraine as "inappropriate". However, previously your "sympathy" has mostly been extended to Salazar - who has not been sexually assaulted that I am aware - and others who have been found guilty of doping violations.

The Wetmore case is completely irrelevant here. That is a separate case. Kara made a complaint of sexual assault that was accepted by SafeSport. The assault happened to her. It isn't her opinion. What she thinks or says about any other case has no bearing on that.
it is not right that safe sport is judge, jury, and executioner. they have more power over whatever their realm is than Roger Goodell has over the NFL.
Yep.
Who made these people God?
The law. They are a statutory body bound by defined rules and processes. But not exactly a deity.
Salazar has been sanctioned for sexual abuse as well as psychological abuse of other of his young athletes. Their accusations were accepted by SafeSport. He has also been banned for doping infractions. This is the guy you want to defend?
Would like to see some proof. Or at least a detailed explanation as to how Safesport reached it's conclusion.
Don't you agree?
Nope. It isn't a criminal process. It is confidential to protect vulnerable complainants. Salazar was given the opportunity to defend himself. He didn't succeed.
Regardless, if she was comfortable about it, she doesn't need my sympathy. If not, she has my complete sympathy.
So who is "comfortable" with rape - except the rapist - if that is the analogy you are using?
Good question. But look at the mods here. They deleted the post highlighting that Salazar was banned for raping, supporting that creep who made fun of the raped woman. So sick.
