when you are ruled by a Mobbed up thief like Putin, it is not surprising that the Military and the population in general view crime and corruption as a way to get ahead and escape from poverty. Those Russian soldiers that were on camera shipping back Ukrainian property to their homes throughout Russia had a rude awakening. Out of 130 packages shipped only 3 arrived as they should have. The rest were stolen by Russian Postal Workers.
So, as I said. Russia invaded because Putin as a psychopath, and Ukraine was still quite some time away from joining NATO. Oh wait, it was to denazify. So, Russia hired the pro-Nazi Wagner group. Or was it to liberate the Russians. Weird, since Russia has been bombing the heck out of them. Nope. Putin's an a-hole, just like all the people that support him.
Looks like Russia is even further away from joining NATO (not that anyone would want to ally with their highly incompetent military anyway)
I read the Russia was actually behind the regime change so that they would have a way to justify to themselves that they should annex Crimea. Prove me wrong.
By Europe, do you mean rat-invested slums? Or the same run-down "Khrushchyovkas" that make up most of the cities in Russia? Your grandmother can thank the Soviet Union for her lousy pension - if the Soviet Union and Russia weren't such corrupt failures, maybe she'd be getting more.
More than 30 million people live in Europe’s urban slums. They often have little or no access to water or electricity. Dwellers range from members of ethnic minorities to victims of the financial crisis.
The United States is dropping bombs on foreign countries at a rate of one bomb every 12 minutes, rarely killing intended targets, yet the media take little notice. by Michael Tennant
Guy needs "proof" US is killing kids with bombs every day.
It has been bombing Somalia since 2011.
And that makes it okay for Russia to fire a missile at Ukraine every 20 minutes?
Of course not.
Odd that the media is covering Russian aggression 24/7 yet not a peep about all the civilians America kills with bombs daily, and has been doing so for 20 years.
Kind of hurts the evil Russia, good America narrative I guess
Yes, Ukraine itself could not and still can't fulfill requirements to become a NATO member.
These are: • New members must uphold democracy, including tolerating diversity • New members must be making progress toward amarket economy • Their military forces must be under firm civilian control • They must be good neighbors and respect sovereignty outside their borders • They must be working toward compatibility with NATO forces
HOWEVER, it would be very useful for the US to have their soldiers in Ukraine and also the US NAVY in Sevastopol Naval Base, therefore a serious effort was made to prop Ukraine up to make joining possible (2008 Bucharest Summit).
Considering that a US sponsored regime change took place in 2014, and a pro-Western government came to power with a serious ambition of NATO, Russia had to take action.
USA knew exactly what they were doing and what the outcome of this would be, since they have 200 years of regime change experience.
If you really have been to Ukraine, I wonder how you could miss rund down "Khrushchyovkas", which make up 90% of Ukrainian cities and towns. I've been to Kiev and also Donetzk multiple times since my father was born there. Let me tell you, Ukraine is most certainly not Europe. My grandmother gets a 67$ pension each month, so listening to politicians talk about EU is simply bizarre.
Trully a brilliant move by the US. Either drag Ukraine to NATO and station US military there, or have Russia start a war and turn Europe away from cheap gas.

So, if Ukraine wasn't close to NATO membership, then Putin only invaded because he's an a-hole financed by weak Europeans like yourself. What you're saying is that this invasion is your fault? Congrats. At least own up to being responsible.
And.. then we're off to conspiracy theory looney town about Russo-German alliances and how the US forced regime change in Ukraine.
p.s. I've been to Ukraine. It is full of beautiful historical buildings, but I didn't see anywhere that looked like the worst ghettos and projects in Chicago. Now, when I was in the UK - saw some totally sketchy areas that made me wish I had a gun because I wasn't sure I was going make it to the end of the block. Same in Portugal, and France, and definitely in Italy. But, not in Ukraine. Have you been to Ukraine? Or are you just speculating based on your "fancy European education" without actually having experienced anything?

Great post. All facts (assuming your family story is true).
Think of all the people in the US with Ukraine flags in their social media profile pics. Like these fools here, they literally know nothing, and act like this aggression all came out of nowhere from Putin. LOL

Wait- You don’t understand why NATO was created, do you? LOL
I do. Do you? You do realize that there was a time after the defeat of THE SOVIET UNION where NATO and RUSSIA worked together and there was talk of RUSSIA joining NATO.
I wonder why? It could be that Russia always breaks international promises like the one they made to the Ukrainians.
I’m going to go out on limb here, but it is possible that the posters here are not commenting on other world events because this is the Russia / Ukraine thread.
When we do, some of us have a lot of criticism for our government. Sadly, you can’t say anything about your leader without getting into trouble. That’s not your fault.
I wonder how many of you have actually been to Ukraine?
Average pension $75 / month with a gallon of milk costing $3.5. Aside of beautiful historical buildings, the rest of the country looking like worst ghettos and projects in Chicago. Prior to 2014 Ukrainian military equipment was consisting entirely from an old Soviet stock.
So knowing that, where do these ambitions of NATO and EU were coming from? Bunch of articles show that NATO was in the talks since 2008 and Ex-President Yanukovich refused an EU association deal in 2013 (which is why he was overthrown?).
It's becoming obvious that Ukraine was falsely promised impossible memberships by Western powers, without having even remote chance to fulfill the requirements. Only to turn Ukraine away from Russia, knowing well that Russia would not tolerate that.
Every Russian taking point sounds like something a wife-abuser would say. "You can't have her because she's mine. She's not good enough for you, anyway."
Ukraine's GDP per capita is just below Albania and North Macedonia. Prior to the Russians most recent invasion, Ukraine's economy was growing in recent years, despite nearly a decade of Russia invading, stealing, and cutting off Ukraine.

Ukraine needs to forget NATO, not even talks, plans or whatever dreams they have been sold by the West.
Every USA president is an as*hole, yet I don't see you complaining. That's just what it is, big countries are ruled by as*holes. Zelensky is a major as*hole too.
Whoever was behind the regime change, did it with a certain goal in sight. Either way Ukrainian people are not in control of what's happening and were majorly played, by the USA, or maybe by Russians. If it was Russia though, it would have hit the news already. Since everyone's quiet about it, must be the US, as a rule of thumb.
I don't know, I live in one of the richest European countries and we don't have slums. If you ever heard a term "s*ithole country" - its about Ukraine. The fact, that the US cares about such country, means only one thing - there is a strategic interest.
An that's exactly my point. A country, that lives on the fumes of what Soviets built many years ago is being invited to talks about NATO and the EU. Might as well invite Russia then too.
I wonder how many of you have actually been to Ukraine?

You have things confused buddy. Ukraine is a cheating w*ore that is fu*king some pimp on your marital bed. The worst thing, that she doesn't see that it's the same pimp, that uses you, like some Afghanistan, only to spit you out once you have served your purpose.
Russia came home to take the bed they paid for.
EVERYTHING Ukraine has comes from Russia or Soviet union. Those morans can't even pay for Russian gas at a heavily discounted friendship price. I'd make them pay what Europe pays then, if I were Putin.
I wonder why? It could be that Russia always breaks international promises like the one they made to the Ukrainians.
Because NATO needs Russia as an enemy to justify it's own existence. If Europe was friends with Russia, USA would literally collapse, as many American strategists have said before. Therefore USA will incite all kinds of problems in Europe upon which Russia will have to react. I only wish, that Russia would get out from this "one step behind" mentality and for once start leading and give Americans something else to worry about, maybe something in their own "backyard". How about trading oil and gas in Yuan or Ruble for a change, to see what happens to dollar then ;-)
