This thread was originally titled, "Incredible development in the $612,000 Transcon Goodge run, currently ongoing" but the new title is more descriptive. The description of the run is here.
The way I see it: I'm sure WG doesn't care or understand HR training, doesn't really know his training zones at all. And how does one fake running cadence? And why would you bother to fake cadence and not bother about consistent HR readings?
Enough about the heart rate. In and of itself the heart rate stuff is not enough to discredit or prove anything. But under the totality of the circumstances, it's one of many factors that, taken together, discredit this guy's run. Note also, this guy could have cleared up the strange heart rate data by providing his GPS data files. His team even promised to release them. They never did, and never will. That's telling.
Yes, or his Whoop, which has HR and all his running. But he point blank refuses to, as do all his associates, despite WG announcing on RR that Whoop have published his data.
RR could easily have then said, "oh, that's great, where?"
Not really, depends on the context. If a friend said he did a good half marathon in 88, I'd say well done. I'd be a twat to say that sounds slow.
In the context of someone discussing athletic performance and how good something really is and they asked me how good a performance 88 is for a guy relative to others, I'd say it's not that great.
You are offended too easily. I'm no where near my times from when I was younger and I'm happy with someone telling me i'm slow!
that's not what he says. He says people don't care about "zones". They most certainly care about running 10 miles in 65 at 150 one month and then the same run at 142 the next.
Good runners keep an eye on their pulse for all sorts or reasons.
As for what qualifies someone as a seasoned runner, it's a myriad of at least two dozen factors. Here are some:
Years run - probably more than 6.
miles per year
club runner?
racer or not
pace of racing
pace of training
train in a group or always solo
sessions 2 or 3 times a week
keep some sort of log
care about progress
care about diet
disciplined about not missing runs
research read up or watch athletics
possibly have a coach
try to run in good quality shoes, researches shoes, rotates shoes
owns racing flats
owns xc spikes
owns track spikes
knows a bit about physio, takes physio on occasion
happy to run in bad weather - not a problem or even an issue
often runs before work - gets up early to run
watches alchohol and drug intake, doesn't smoke.
And many more. You don't have to tick all of these boxes, but a seasoned runner means dedicated, disciplined, passionate and has been training and racing for many years and not just as an occasional drop in.

I mean, it's just like what makes someone else good at any other skill. Impossible to define strictly, but when you know you know AKA "real recognize real." Someone could become "seasoned" after a few years if they take it seriously. I've also watched very talented athletes run extremely well for years but not learn a single thing because they did what coach said and never gave it any thought, you could argue maybe they aren't truly experienced and knowledgable in the sport. I can't tell you exactly why Wayne Shorter was a master, but I can promise you, he was indeed a saxophone master.
Hi all, genuine question. WG has had the Transcon route tattooed on him, and his tattooist says it's his Strava route, but I genuinely can't understand what I'm looking at. It's on his and Thomas Cardiff's Insta reels, or here's a shot on the Jogle FB page. Can you illuminate?
On Sunday the 2nd of April, 247 Athlete William Goodge will embark on the challenge to become the fastest Englishman to run across America. The best part of this monumental event is that it is all in the name of charity; Will...
Ta. That pic looks really crisp and clean. What's with the five large branches and numerous other double routes and detours etc? He'll be answering these questions for the next 60 years.
It looks absolutely nothing like a transcon route and why do it vertical instead of horizontal? Just so perplexing.

Perplexing mixed with a dash of insane. On the one hand he is acting like the Transcon was no big deal for him. Childs play.
Then he goes and gets that strange spider web tattooed on his male modeling body. Which makes the 26.2 bumper sticker humble brag look tame.
my guess is it’s a fake. He’s doing it for clicks and engagement.

Ah yes, clearly a piss take, and the branches are directed at me. Very clever and I admit quite amusing.
This post was edited 14 minutes after it was posted.
I think the branches (and lake) are there purely for aesthetics (not for an accurate representation)...
Noticed he's "lost" his coros so no more HR stas coming off his strava since last week..
Ta, yep, who knows what's up with that.
On another more important note, this interesting line in from an Aussie:
Strava is dead easy to fake. I've had to complain to them a few times to stop cheats taking one of my short segments just in Canberra which must be one of the most honest cities in the world. Good luck & keep up the fight!
The very first sentence of this website says: On Sunday the 2nd of April, 247 Athlete William Goodge will embark on the challenge to become the fastest Englishman to run across America.
Despite the fact that Goodge keeps saying on social media that he doesn't think the British 'record' is important. But says the complete opposite to the media.
The horror of that headline - and byline even worse. Poor old Bruce, he didn't deserve that. One of the most dedicated, humble and passionate runners of all time. One of his great lines, which taps into a lifetime in the sport is, "Beware! Of the drop-off after 70..."
And he gets his derriere handed to him - by 10 days - by an influencer off 20 miles a week, who in turn is compared to the icon that is Forrest, who crossed about four times in the book - like Rob Pope [who I spoke to today].
Will, what do you make of RB and WG having identical Coros Vertix 2 watches, down to the strap color? Apologies if this was mentioned somewhere in the thread, I noticed this after taking a look at the YT videos. That, combined with RB not publishing maps/HR/etc from his support runs with Will during the event, is definitely odd.

If you ask them why they ceased publishing maps/ HR they will say that Roger Bannister never posted those things either. Checkmate!
