PULL OUT - "Total personal income rose across states in 2021 as the economy largely followed an upward trajectory after severe losses early in the pandemic. Nationally, the sum of personal income from all sources was up 3.1% from 2020, after accounting for inflation."
That trend has continued into 2022.
There are TONS of things out there that say the same thing.
Nah if you go with 'real,' after-inflation income, the numbers are getting worse by most measures. that is to say, incomes are going up a lot in raw dollars, which is great, but when you subtract out inflation, incomes are falling. Of course this is an opportunity...if inflation falls back to 2-3% those wage hikes will be real and kept. We won't all get lower salaries if inflation falls.
here's a chart of real personal income. The handouts have really made a hash of this data series. And it's all pre-tax, which is unfortunate. But it shows declining real incomes. The good news is that real incomes are still well above Trump-era incomes.
Yeah, I saw that same thing you linked. I'll use info to support my view, thanks. :)
Also, I DID ask Sally what he meant...either lack of income increase OR inflation being involved.
People DO get riled up about inflation, but it's not as cut and dried as most inflation graphs would state.
For example, if you own your home outright, the increase in home prices means nothing other than you MIGHT have to pay more property tax, but that's minor in the grand scheme of things and easily taken care of by any cost of living raise you might get at work.
I don't usually post opinion pieces but this is too good and too accurate to skip.
From boasting about the size of his penis on national television to releasing records of his high testosterone levels, President Trump’s rhetoric and behavior exude machismo. His behavior also seems to have struck a chord with some male voters. See, for example, the “Donald Trump: Finally Someone With Balls” T-shirts common at Trump rallies.
But our research suggests that Trump is not necessarily attracting male supporters who are as confidently masculine as the president presents himself to be. Instead, Trump appears to appeal more to men who are secretly insecure about their manhood. We call this the “fragile masculinity hypothesis.” Here is some of our evidence.
I didn't need any research to tell me that what you have bolded there is true. Trump AND his followers are weak, weak men...well, they are not even men. I'll call them "males."
Such a good day to be a democrat. Got the chip bill through and now climate change provisions and healthcare changes are coming. Good stuff to get done before we lose the house and have to play defense for awhile. In two years, we’ve passed multiple bipartisan bills and provisioned lots of stuff we’ve been needing through reconciliation. They worked with the republicans when necessary and told them to f**k off when they weren’t. I’m incredibly proud to be one of the roughly 38% of people who approve of the job being done. Unfortunately, I will continue to read this thread and all of the uneducated misinformed nonsense that comes with that, but your pearl clutching means a little less to me than it did yesterday. Hunter where’s the champagne?

I sorta wish you (and others) would stop referring to them as "conservatives". I mean, I get why you do that but I have two objections:
1) The term, "conservative", has a real meaning and it has nothing to do with Trump, MAQAs or rubes.
2) For my own part, I do not ascribe to any political label. However, I do know quite a few real conservatives and I have great respect for them and their views.
So, carry on as you will. Just wanted to politely ask that you consider moving away from this pejorative use of "conservative".
hmmm I'll try to come up another way to refer to Republicans who consider themselves conservatives but actually are not.
My point, as I think you understand, by putting that word in quotes, injecting a note of sarcasm.
Yeah, I'd say that putting it in quotation marks fully answers this complaint.
But even without quotation marks, it's only arguably "unfair" to a relatively small number of actual conservatives (myself included). But I'm OK with that, and if only there were many, many more. Put a slightly different way, a large majority of those self-identifying as conservatives deserve the stain. In fact, they EMBRACE the stain.
Still a bit away from November, and winning midterms for the party in power is a HUGE uphill battle, so I will remain cautiously optimistic.
Yes, for the millionth time folks, polls in July mean almost nothing.
But agip's comment about a congressional triumph is relevant. If they can get it passed then it will matter in November. And if gas prices continue to go down that would be relevant too.
In the fall, if it appears that things are moving in the right direction, that will be very helpful to Democrats.

A country that deserves what it gets = A country that will makes voting decisions based on deltas of tens of cents a gallon of gas. Flat out embarrassing, no matter the political inclinations of the person doing it.
And whether it's (maybe kinda sincere) bleeding heart liberals making the "compassion" argument of gas prices hurting the little people, or mostly completely insincere Trumpers making it (because it's convenient to bash Biden), it's ALL mostly BS. What fraction of households in our rich country ACTUALLY experience significant financial heartache when gas is expensive?
Yeah, I know, some. Enough that one should allow gas prices to eclipse literally dozens of other issues on which one could/should base your vote? Of course not.
J. Christ killed a fruit tree once. He was also rude to His mother at the wedding where he did the water-wine trick.
As President Trump once said: "To WIN a war, you have to BE a war." We, as Americans, should apply that advice in all our business and personal affairs. America is the land of manifest bounty. The Founding Fathers were J. Christ like in their beliefs. They killed for freedom. Our freedom is our liberty. We must denounce the enemies of America, wherever they may fester, and trash their homes.
I aim to be the best Exalted Man there is. I'm well on my way.

Tell me you're high without telling me you're high.
You don’t jack about J. Christ, FlogPoley. You didn’t even know J. Christ killed a fig tree in anger, and was rude to his own mother at Cana. Fat didn’t know that stuff either.
sounds like trump has lost the power to intimidate witnesses.

There is no evidence that Jesus was angry when he cursed the fig tree.
And he was most definitely not rude to his mother. There is nothing to suggest that Jesus was being rude. Furthermore, there is no evidence that the conversation between Jesus and Mary took place in public as you claimed. It is more likely that Mary took Jesus aside to inform him of an embarrassing situation. Thus, the conversation was probably private.
Are you trying to convince us that Jesus was harsh and insulting?
What does it mean to you to be an Exalted Man? Are you saying that you are a god or that you will be a god some day?

Witnesses testifying to the DOJ Grand Jury have let the cat out of the bag...Trump is being investigated by the DOJ as a subject or target. Grand Juries ONLY are assembled to consider CRIMINAL charges, so it is clear Trump is in the legal crosshairs.
He needs to be punished LEGALLY for our Democratic Republic to survive.

Bolded text does not really make sense. It does not need to be the case that "we all get lower salaries if inflation falls" in order for people to lose real buying power.
The currently higher salaries have not kept pace with inflation. So, buying power has been lost. If inflation falls then buying power will continue to fall, just more slowly unless people get MORE large raises. Those raises that people have already received are already baked in and have left people falling behind.

RightI meant that the opportunity is: if wages continue to rise at these rates but inflation falls back. Then we get some very serious wage gains.

Wrong. All the evidence is that J. Christ was angry when he killed the fig tree. You think he was gleeful?
J. Christ was rude to his mother (Mary) at Cana. Look at how he talked to her. People should respect their elders. Part of being a good Nazareenian-American.

There is a fascinating article in the New Yorker on what appears to be the easiest case to make against Trump. It is undeniable that he could have stopped the riot at any time but chose to do nothing. Furthermore, he helped to start the riot in the first place. Trump's refusal to act makes him criminally negligent for everything that happened. This could even result in Trump being guilty of negligent homicide. And it would be pretty easy to prove in court.
Among the first lessons that American law students are taught is that if you see a person drowning and you could easily throw him a rope but choose not to, your inaction may be morally wrong but you have not committed a crime. By contrast, though, if the drowning person is someone you have a legal duty to aid—for example, if it’s your spouse or your child, or if you are on duty as a lifeguard, or even if you accidentally pushed the person into the water—and you do nothing to help, then you could be legally liable, even for criminal homicide. In other words, if individuals have a legal duty to act but choose not to, they could be held responsible for the harm that results, no less than anyone who acted to cause harm.
