You are saying that an 8 month decline in GDP in 2001 was not in fact a recession. That’s nonsensical , Flagpole.
If it's not two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth, then it's not a recession. I didn't create the definition. Recession means what it means. It does NOT mean "bad economic conditions."
You are using the shorthand media definition, not the technical economist definition.

White House adviser Brian Deese defined a recession in 2008 as two conscutive quarters of negative growth. Yesterday,, he said two negative quarters of GDP growth is not the technical definition? What happened? Of course, the White House is redefining the definition. They have to. If the voters understand that Biden has led us into a recession the Dems will get hammered in November, though they will regardless.

Since Biden took office the average US worker has lost $3,400 in annual income, so about $5,100 overall. Biden et al. is doing great damange to America.
I agree with most of what you and Anecdoter said about Fox News, except I'd point out that BLM did "burn down US cities" in the sense that they were responsible for billions of dollars ($,$,$,$) of damages and looting to personal, private and third party property. (I think a few deaths as well). Fox, which I agree sucks blowage, did more accurate and moral reporting on the BLM looting and trashing than any other network.
Don't misconstrue anything I said as pro-Fox News. There were just correct on the BLM riots and the awful, misleading mainstream media coverage.
You may be a good American, Agipper. What is your net worth? Have you been in the military?
There was certainly damage done by BLM. But the foxers think cities were aflame and looked more like that 70s movie Escape from New York than anything else. They think it was actually dangerous to be in US cities. They still think that.
I live in a big blue coastal city that had lots of BLM activity. There was some broken window action. some preemptive boarded up windows, some looting. But you would never know it unless you went to the commercial districts and it was only one or two nights. Nothing like what the foxers think. Their view of the safety of American cities is severely messed up.
As for me, I am a good American. I have worked since I was 16, paid a lot of taxes. do a lot of community work, never committed any crimes, support myself and raised a family that has done very well. I am rich in every way. Never been in the military but many in my family have served, either in the armed forces or as first responders.
Regarding the protests, it's even more ridiculous than you present it. I think that the vast majority of Trumpers were and are even less worried about or concerned about unlawful/violent urban protests than you are. The vast majority of them live far from those places, and aren't truly concerned about the impact on those who live there (in the next breath they'll have utter disdain for pretty much ALL things "urban").
It's just that it's one of the "Libs are DESTROYING America" claims that they've been talking into being "concerned" about by a man and his ample supporters.
hashtag american politics. McConnellism in one paragraph. Make everything so hyper-partisan that you end up voting against stuff you want, just because the Dems want them too.
Matthew Gertz @MattGertz Republicans are so pissed that Democrats want to fight inflation by reducing the deficit, raising taxes on big corporations, lowering drug prices, and investing in clean energy that they are voting against veterans health care and boosting economic security against China.

hah you want to do that for Trump and Bush2 now, after they each took the nation from prosperity at inauguration to widespread wealth destruction when they left office? Might be a fun game!
Have you tried applying that principle in your personal and business affairs, Fat? Maybe things in your life would be better with a little more self-discipline.
I used to be in Los Hermanos de la Fraternidad Piadosa de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazaren, which was a flagellant confraternity. I was expelled for heavy boozing, but I learned a lot about pious sacrifice and, of course, flagellation during my time with the Brotherhood.s
Unlike you, I don't base my life on the teachings of that con man, Donald Trump.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. economy shrank from April through June for a second straight quarter, contracting at a 0.9% annual pace and raising fears that the nation may be approaching a recession. The decline that the Commerc...

I am aware of the history there. I disagree that the definition I choose is the "shorthand media definition", but I do recognize that many economists DO use the NBER as their standard.
The problem with the NBER and the reason I go with the two consecutive quarters of decline in GDP, is that the NBER often will not have defined a recession until MONTHS later, sometimes MANY MONTHS later. That's not really helpful and is more academic than helpful. There also is an element of subjectivity there.
Two consecutive quarters of decline in GDP constitutes a recession. Easy to measure. Timely snapshot. Not subjective in any way. It IS the better way to define what a recession is.
1) If the GDP doesn't get revised so that it is in positive territory (this often happens), then yes, we are in a recession.
2) You should have stopped there, because that stupid meme you posted shows you believe Trump to be a good businessman, and that's laughable...and stupid.

Where's your proof of that? Income has risen. Are you just talking about inflation there? Link to your source.
The only win trump had was cutting taxes in good times and putting us all in even more debt. After that he failed over and over again.
Here Manchin changes his mind and agrees that working on climate change is an opportunity for this nation. Although we'll see what gets through the sausage factory of the US Congress.
Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) on Wednesday reached a deal with Democratic leaders on a spending package that aims to lower health-care costs, combat climate change and reduce the federal deficit, marking a massive potential breakthrough for President Biden’s long-stalled economic agenda. The new agreement, brokered between Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), opens the door for party lawmakers to try to advance the measure in the coming weeks. It caps off months of fierce debate, delay and acrimony, a level of infighting that some Democrats saw as detrimental to their political fate ahead of this fall’s critical elections. Under the deal, Schumer secured Manchin’s support for roughly $433 billion in new spending, most of which is focused on climate change and clean energy production — the largest such investment in U.S. history. The Democrats coupled the spending with provisions that aim to lower health-care costs for Americans, chiefly by allowing Medicare to begin negotiating the price of select prescription drugs on behalf of seniors.
I'm very happy about most of what I see in this bill, but the EV tax credits for new cars are just an enormous waste of money. Automakers already can't make EVs fast enough to meet demand. Now the government wants to goose demand even more by offering a $7500 tax credit. The net result is that automakers will raise prices by $7500 and consumers get no benefit.
It's good for my Tesla stock, but bad for consumers.
This bill might be the one thing that keeps GM from going bankrupt again. GM is in serious trouble right now.
There is also a provision for a $4000 tax credit for sales of used EVs. The only problem is that it has to be sold through a dealer. So again, consumers get no benefit.
Also part of the bill is provisions that to qualify for the EV credit, the battery has to be manufactured in the US. The details are very complicated on what qualifies, but at first glance this part looks like a good idea to me.
I'm especially happy about the Medicare provision. Republicans have handed the drug companies billions of dollars of taxpayer money by explicitly making sure that Medicare pays top dollar for prescription drugs. It's about time we put an end to that.

1. We agree.
2. Biden is the worst POTUS ever and Trump is a better businessman than you- so shut up and sit down.
