Is this weekend's race on UCR's schedule?
don't know -- i have no association w/ UCR
Sure is. Those guys have been training hard. I hope they do well, the guys deserve it. My take on it.. i hope my take isn't correct, but this will be one of the better team efforts during the whole year. Why?
1. They are pretty much doing the workouts by themselves without ray there, so they aren't going be ran into the ground.
2. Their future meets are going to be ran while under the supervision of Ray. So they will probably be running on waaay tired legs for most of the season, but i have a feeling they are gunna run well at their own invite.
I just really hope the guys have a good season they really deserve it with all the work and effort they have been putting forth. Sucks though that 4 potential top 5 runners left the school/team.

I meant to say their future meets will be ran while training under the supervision of Ray.
i run track and play soccer at a D3 school. our soccer coach claims to have run sub 10 for 2 miles for a fitness test....he says that he trained by running in steel-toed boots. it later comes out that the 2 miles were run around a soccer field in cleats. bs

Hey, I heard from Bryce himself that he ran 25:00 on the buffalo ranch, most likely after pacing the army guys through a 3:10 1200. Hey, we'll all see after the shhotout, right?
He threw down a righteous sub-28 last weekend, I'd guess that it will be quite easy to drop the remaining 3 minutes by the time of the shootout in 3 weeks, that's just a minute per week.
kid with a 10:30 somethin 2mile pr does an extra 10mins on his run calls it 2miles
I have to admit I lost a lot of respect for Gerry Lindgren after hearing his interview, where he claimed that he would've run under 2 hours for a marathon on a couple of occasions only to umm have him fall down a few meters from the finish line. Ugh.
during a half marathon guy told me he ran sub 4 minute mile in a road race, told me the name of the road race (found it hard to believe i was keeping up with a sub 4)
he didnt mention it lost 400 feet of elevation in a mile.

Lindgren was bullshit, and is bullshit.
yeah, no way anyone could run that fast off of that much mileage.
As a frosh in HS I was running the 800m in a frosh invite. I said to my buddy, who was about 10' from me, "All right, Ed. I want to see that 2:01 out of you. Just like we talked about." One guy said to the guy next to him "2:01--I'm going to get lapped!" My friend's PR was 2:12 or something. He had to work his hardest not to crack up at the starting line (I did too).

toby tanser and 2:16
me in 13:26 for a 5k. It was actually 12:22. I am badass.
some guy saying he's going to run 234 miles in a week
I was on a run a couple months ago, going by a house that is occupied by a group of 'hippies' or so it looks like. A skinny guy with straw-like long hair and some mileage on him was coming out the door to go for a ride on his trusty K-mart bicycle. He saw me running by and felt compelled to shout "I'VE RUN A THOUSAND MARATHONS!". I nick-named him "K-Man".
On a more traditional note, a janitor where I once worked found out I was a runner and let me know he had run a sub-4 mile in high school. That was before Webb, and I told him only three guys had done that in the US ... at least he admitted that he might not be sure about that time after all.
Following this plot is argueably the greatest lie ever told in high school track and field. In my high school in NY we had assembled an amazing roster of talent. We had a sub 9:00 3200m (National Champ) 2 more around 9:40, a sub 8:00 4x800m relay, 4 runners that ran sub 2:00 in the open 800m, 1 runner that ran 4:12 mile, 2 that ran around 4:30 2 more around 4:40, very competitive jumpers and hurdlers and state qualifier in pole vault, shot and discuss (don't remember their marks). Our sprinters were terrible though. Low and behold there was one miler who ran around a 4:50 PR.
With all that in mind, Our 4:50 miler decided to announce to our team that he received an official invitation to the Penn Relays that read "Mark Bxxxxx, will you come run for us?" This was in the wake of his 1502 SAT scores similar to that of Zach Morris from 'Saved By The Bell'. Oddly enough, the 6th best miler on our team received an official invite yet our nation champ and sub 8:00 4x800m never received one. Sometimes life just isn't fair. LOL.
Granted I can't find a 2:16 for Toby, but he definitely has a 2:18:02 to his credit amd a couple 63 min 1/2s. So regardless, he was good at one time.

A couple of years ago my wife and I went to dinner with one of her friends and this chick's new boyfriend. We get to talking and the boyfriend starts asking about my coaching and running career. I don't brag because it is wasted on people who don't know jack about running anyway. But, the boyfriend keeps pressing. So I tell him the truth, that in HS I took 3rd in our state in the 800m for small schools. He comes right back at me and says that he took 2nd at state in the 300m hurdles in the large school division of our state. He rattled off times and schools and all the right stuff. I was impressed and my wife's friend was beaming, totally into this guy.
After dinner, I went home and looked the boyfriend up the state's track webpage archives. Some other guy was listed as second that year. So I did a little more digging, he had never even qualified for state, he still had his high school record in the event, but his time wasn't the blazing 38.0 he said it was. More like 39.9 (fast, so why lie?). I told my wife's friend and she broke up with the liar.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
