It's still a very good time for a 16-17 year old girl - and especially for a 2-lap runner. Mary Decker's best was just under 54. But for a 17 year old girl to run 55 in an 800 (who was nowhere near 2min for the 800 a year ago), yeah - nah. As I said, she would have been several metres ahead of the field of international runners at Eugene.
Moraa led the pack at Pre in 56-low. Gill was 56.6.
And? When all your predictions/estimates are driven by pure hate this easily puts Gill a few metres ahead.

53.6/53.7 are fifth girls in Texas and California this year. So, 54 or 55 for high school girls is not even going to get you into a national hs final, not even close.
So selection for the European championships in Rome is out.
800m - Keely, Alex Bell and Wallace.
Not sure of the selection criteria? Why no Phoebe Gill?
She was offered a place, but turned it down to concentrate on her exams:

Phoebe Gill, the 17-year-old 800m sensation who has broken through this summer, also turned down the chance to go to Rome to focus on her school exams. She could, though, still make the squad for the Olympics if she performs at trials.
Another extraordinary 800m race by Pheobe Gill this evening at the Manchester BMC, 55 flat at the bell and held on to win in 1:58.08 as Ciara Mageean broke the Irish record in 2nd. Ms.Gill's time broke Keely Hodgkinson's track record.
That is super impressive. I've run a bit faster (40 years ago), but if I've had gone through in 55:00 flat they'd have had to get me off the track with a dustpan and broom at the 600m mark.
I'd say right now she could go 56 high, and 59, and run 1:55.xx

The pacemaker went through in just over 55. As a poster said earlier Gill went through in 55 that suggests she would have been up with the pacemaker and well ahead of the field at Eugene. But regardless, her recent times of 1:57/58 are now at a top international level, and this as a 17 year old school athlete, while being 4 seconds faster than a year ago. There are some Russian athletes who would be envious.

I didn't suggest 54-55 is what the very best high school girls will run - but it is a respectable time for a 17 year old. It is even more respectable coming from an athlete who isn't a 400m specialist and runs it as the first lap for 800. That's what a pacer in a DL race runs.

So as fast as Hodgkinson at Eugene.

Another absolutely brilliant run today, with slightly different tactics this time. A negative split 1.58 is good by anyone's standards, let alone a 17yo.
Reekie is a proven and consistent world class performer and to deal with her so easily at this age is incredible. Every chance she makes the final in Paris, in my opinion.
