It would be tough for Sandvik to win the 1600m as he is not entered in it. His goal is to win the 800m. Will be tough with Henry Risser running so well.

It will also be tough since he'll likely be in the 4 x 800 earlier on Saturday, while Risser (and Ulrich, for that matter) get more rest time before the 800 final.

Speaking of the 4X800, there is a lot of talent in that race, 22 of the 24 teams that qualified for state did so beating the state qualifying standard of 8:05.13. There are 14 teams that have ran sub 8:00 minutes on the year, and the top 12 teams are all within 5 seconds of each other. Should be a great race!
No surprise that Mechura wins the 3200. I do think the surprise is how slow the race is/was compared to what everyone ran at Sections. Some runners were :30+ slower today. Was the wind a factor?

Yes, it’s quite windy here. I do think it’s a factor.
Wind was a major factor and times were slow. Mechura took the win as expected and Sutter made a great effort taking the lead in lap 7 before Mechura ultimately ran away with it. I agree with the comment on Andrew Schultz, he was great all season and ended with a very strong showing at state. Weber taking 4th also had a strong showing just like in State XC.
There were 8 seniors in the top 10 with Mechura and Weber being the only Juniors. It seems the older and more physically mature runners were able to handle the wind better. Congrats to Nathan Schultz, Scott, Santiago, Herring, and Hootie finishing on the podium.
Sounds like there will be less wind on Saturday for the 1600.
Isabelle Schmitz ran a 10:24 this morning to win the AA girl's 3200. I'd like to see her and Maddie Gullickson in the same race. Gullickson's 10:42 yesterday was under very windy conditions, and she really ran it quite tactically. She never took the lead until the final straight to the finish, and basically just sat on the leaders until starting her kick with about 200m to go. So I'm not sure anyone has really seen her best effort.
Mechura wins 1600 in 4:08 Sutter 4:11 Foote 4:13 Scott 4:14
Malec wins girls 1600 in 4:50
Gullickson second 4:55
Mechura looked great. He pulled off the 1600/3200 distance double.
Malec winning wasn’t a surprise - 1600 seems to be her forte. Gullickson dropped a powerful kick again in the final 200. She passed several during that stretch.
I expected Drevlow to go out like a maniac in the 800, and that’s exactly what she did. A 61-something first lap, followed by a 68-something second lap to hang on for the win.
Boys 800m was super exciting - came down to the wire. 6 guys under 1:55. Top two guys 1:52. 6 guys running Pr's. Lots of guys running the 4x800m before. Nice to see kids going for it.
First - Mechura wasn't challenged, again. His economy of movement is incredible. It appears the only way anyone will beat him next year is to draft and then kick with 100 to go. Any sooner (like Sutter tried yesterday with 300-400 to go) and he'll simply react and blow you away. Weather permitting next year, Klecker's mile record will be eclipsed.
Second - anyone old enough to remember Barcelona 1992 and the sprinter whose father helped him finish after he tore a hammy? We had a similar occurrence yesterday - Just (Washburn) limped at least the last 150 with what appeared was a hammy or cramp issue and then collapsed at the finish line. To run a 5:06 given what he endured was incredible. My thoughts are with the young man, as he was running superbly this year.
