You're gonna have to trust me (or not) on the math because it'll be annoying AF for everyone if I type it all out (mostly for me), but this is what a speed rating merge of yesterday looks like. Left out St. Ant's for lack of data, but they're probably in the 3-6 range.
On the girls' side... Saratoga got dominated by Union Catholic at the #4. They've got to get a couple of their youngsters to close the gap with their top-3 to be relevent at Nationals.
Looks like positions 4&5 is what may be hurting St. A’s chances of returning to NXN.
It’s also worth noting that, according to an article, they are still missing MacPherson who scored for them at NXN last year and should be back in October according to an article.
Personally I think Fairport off to a great start. They're missing 3 of their top runners (Passalugo, Warnett, Hill) and still won East Aurora comfortably with an incredible spread of 23 seconds. The team also has a great future with many sophomores (Hill, Bubel, Hickey, Green, Leombrone). Now you can have your own opinions but I don't think you can say the team that ran 6 in the top 10 had a bad opener.
Other teams with solid sophomore-and-under class Auburn- Maher/Gasper (both sophs in the top 3), Ringwood (9th grader who is their 7th man), sophomore Wilbur (their 8th man), and some people on the Modified team that can step up
North Rockland- Tuohy/Chery/ T Piccone - sophomores who are there #1,2, and 6 runners. Freshmen Perez Nieves, McCarron, and Paez who went 1-2-3 in the freshman race this weekend.
Ithaca - Sophomore Nadasdy brothers, freshman Boscia, and two 8th graders who finished in the top 4 in the modified race.
Despite the threat of rain, and residual tropical storms, the first few weeks of September have provided plenty of clarity in the first fresh rankings of the Se

The past two weekends have seen extreme weather impacting the September racing season, and with another burst of rain hitting the region, more cancelations are
That takes out St. Ant's (obviously). The Pearl River cancel gives North Rockland the weekend off. Gressler's a pretty good mostly local Westchester County meet so it's pretty unlikely any of the "conversation" teams are there. Maybe Arlington? I don't know anything about the other meets.

Based on McQuaid, seems like Saratoga and Auburn are pretty close. Fairport dominated
Saratoga’s 1-3 are actually returning next year (they lose their 4-7)
Speed ratings are gonna be interesting. If they’re the same as last year Fairport will be 188, 182, 179, 175, 173…I doubt that will be the case but still, a big performance from them. Did they revert to the original course? The times look much more in line with pre-COVID results, before they altered the course. If so, would probably be looking at a 5-point drop to 183, 177, 174, 170, 168…still honestly a lot better than any New York team was expected to be this year. Auburn, Saratoga, and Ithaca also looking strong. I’d favor Saratoga in November based on history.
