Pretty sure she’s indicated she’s going to focus on mountain biking but she was able to spend a recruiting weekend with her HS teammate Addie Meldrum and it doesn’t hurt to keep options open if her plans change.
Chances are very slim she pursues running.
Iowa State is good now. Minnesota - I have no idea. Illinois - seems like hit or miss. Wisconsin is picky, unless you're from Wisconsin; they just signed the IL state runner-up class 3A, Liv Phillips. So, you prob have to be a state champ, or state runner-up to sign with Wisco. Unless you are from Wisconsin. They also sign Aussies, etc. So, they might be looking foreign talent.
That is only a subset of the schools. Less than 25% responded to the girl that I know well. She said it is similar for the other girls. I found it funny that a poster went out of his way to claim that girls are all being signed.
Not this again... lol.
Your 4 all seem to be looking in the wrong direction then.
Speaking of BYU, Nelah Roberts just announced she will be joining the squad in Provo. Add that to the list. This was in no way a surprise so Im not sure what took so long to make it official. Roberts (2:21/4:58/10:30/17:18xc) stands as the only athlete in Idaho history to win the state high school cross country title in each of her four years. She also has a couple 1600 and 3200 state titles to her name as well.
One of them ran 2:09. They are looking everywhere. How can that be the wrong place?
Could be not utilizing contacts. My co-coach was a Big 10 athlete herself, and uses her contacts (former athletes who are now College coaches) to help get spots. Sometimes you need to be a bit lucky if you are late in getting faster times. Girl this year (2.08 in the summer) turned down a school that was after her, and waited until a Big10 school called with an offer, so had only a month to get ready to go away. But other than that she wasn't going to be picky. I can't believe that a 2.09 girl can't find a spot - there are a number of 2.14+/4.50ish/10.30 types out there, that some coaches are less interested in because they don't have much speed (only endurance). There is little doubt that the transfer portal is also making it tougher for incoming freshman, but there ARE places out there (with good offers) for a 2.09 girl. But you might need to be less picky unless money isn't really an issue (small partial). Had a 2.11/4.57 girl get a full ride to a smaller conference (but big city with a good academic rep) school last year.
Kasprick going to Oregon State. The Grand County High School star was this years 2A Utah State cross country champion and has run 58.8/2:18/4:55/10:37. Kasprick has great range and in 2022 she attempted the 400/800/1600/3200 quadruple at the state championships and a year later dropped the 4 and won state titles in the 16 and 32.
I agree but not that they aren't using contacts, It is that 99% of kids don't have contacts. These girls are all from small towns. They have run fast all through high school so it isn't that they put up fast times late in the process. It is surprising that they aren't receiving many responses from following the normal process of emailing coaches and filling out questionnaires. There are way more runners like this than the Letsrun community is aware of if I know of this many in one small area. Most high school runners just want to attend a decent school at a decent price where they can have an enjoyable time competing. Few expect scholarships.
I'll tell you again... they are contacting the wrong schools .... I can give you a list of 10 west coast schools alone that would take a 2:09 (unless she ran it 4 years ago). Pretty much any school in the Big West would take her. If this is real I'll bet she hasn't contacted any of those schools
Silly advice. Some fast girls from a small town in the midwest contact 100 coaches and merely point out that the vast majority don't respond. Yet there are a few guys here who somehow get triggered by a topic that is more aligned with the intent of this website than 99% of the topics. Your advice is to contact some schools 2000 miles away that cost $300K? That sounds like a recipe for success. Most families are constrained by cost and they may want to stay within a 500 mile radius.
good lord.
please tell me what Big west or Mt West school costs 300k? lol
and where did the guy say they were 2000 miles away?
i guarantee you these girls don't exist or they hoping to go to stanford or nc state or uva or oregon or etc...
they are many many schools that wouldn't 'ignore' a 2:09 kid...
*there are
Jack Witte - Millard West - University of Nebraska
UC Davis costs $250K. Local state schools are less than $100K. That is a lot of money for me. Three of the girls are from the same small town. They have contacted every school in the midwest. Yes they have some interest but much less than what people like you seem to think. Many programs don't respond even though though they would top 7 right now. Sorry that the facts are upsetting to you. I am not complaining, just providing the facts.
Updated List(even though it's already been posted about here):
Athay to Utah State
Ringert to Montana State
That leaves Kaden Helder, Lachlan May, Jakob King, Isaac Anttonnen, and Charlie Goss as the remaining notable uncommitted runners in Idaho
the guy made a general comment that no schools want them... now you are modifying it to fit your narrative
just because uc davis costs $250k over 4 years (if even true) doesn't mean it would cost a 2:09 that much... UCD has 18 scholarships to play with... as do many of the schools from the big west & mt west
and 100k is cheap for school, bro... utah st... would love a kid who runs 2:09 and they aren't 2000 miles away from the mid west... i could continue to list schools for you but it's clear you aren't really interested
the facts have actually gotten in your way, not mine..
my original statement stands... they are looking in the wrong direction... there are plenty of schools who would love a 2:09.
Forgot to quote post
Who said nobody wanted them? Please point to that post. About 25% of schools have responded. That is out of up to 100 combinrd for these young ladies. And only one has run 2:09 amd yes she is getting more interest than the other three. But these are state champs with top 150 times in the nation. Funny how 100 schools could be the wrong place in your mind. Most kids have a preference to stay within say a 10 hour drive of home. Yes, there are 300 Division 1 schools but coaches seem to talk also so if a kid contacts every program across rhe country, coaches are leery about wasting their own time.
