That you had to inquire is quite a compliment.
What a classic throwback... 2 takeaways:
Made me huge D Torrence fan, always recall how much fun it was following this at the time and then following his career after.
And the complete douchebaggery and repeated buzzkill attempts of ***** the whole time, what an entitled, condescending prick that guy was.

I am surprised to see my name mentioned on this site again. It was an old thread. Nevertheless, you know what, I was wrong. I apologize.
I stand by my dislike for road mile attempts at sub-4. That notwithstanding, I misrepresented my tone. I felt as if I was in a friendly difference of opinion with some tongue-in-cheek debate.
The problem with these types of sites is that you may become too comfortable and feel as if you are talking with your pals, but it is not true. I should not have assumed that people "get me". As I was brought back to that thread, I realize that they don't (get me). Clearly, I upset some. Again, I am sorry.
I really enjoyed the sport as a participant and fan. The sport and people within it brought more to me than I brought to it and them.
David Torrence was and is a great runner. I feel bad that his time is during a period in which cheats have ravaged our sport. He would be a much bigger star and international player.

What a legend. I was a huge fan of DT and never knew about this thread until today. RIP
You could just tell he loved the sport so much.

20 years from now his kid will be in school and telling his friends that his dad broke a 4 minute mile (which DT seemingly will do easily)
I hope this would still be possible, his kid telling that his dad did the sub4 etc. on track as well. It's so sad and surreal to read this thread, the posts from Big Wave. :'( Goodbye.
I'm a little slow to the party. I read this thread back in 2007, and it never dawned on me till today it was David MF Torrence. It took a few mentions of "David Torrence Downhill Mile" and seeing this thread pop back up for my slow brain to finally make the connection. What an epic thread.
Read the whole thread today in memory of DT. Missed it the first time around.
RIP DT :(
This thread is now even more legendary than it was before, but for not-the-happiest reasons.
RIP DAVE.
RIP!
I remember following this thread when it unfolded, and it was very exciting. The video was hilarious.
A terrible tragedy. RIP, David.
I read this thread when i first found letsrun. This guy is so cool. RIP
Still miss you, big guy.
video was not 1080p cant confirm if this is real, suprised dt could pull off this scam and get away with it
The questions remain...R.I.P..
bump to pay homage to the Legend, we miss you.
RIP DT
Legends never die
a bump for Big Wave, we miss you. rest easy legend.

Thanks for this.
Dave was great.
This was one of the all time great threads.
This was the third year in a row that I ran a hard downhill mile just for Dave.

Amazing thread and an amazing runner. Can't believe it's now six years without him. As a high school runner in SoCal during the early 2010s, it's safe to say David was pretty inspirational in my eyes. He's probably the greatest runner the storied program at Loyola ever produced and threads like this show just what a guy he was off the track as well. I've also heard stories of how he basically dragged the team at Cal back to NCAAs for the first time in forever and was a real rallying point for their success. I'm sure that's no surprise to those who knew him and it's no surprise that people are still missing him just as much six years later. RIP David.
