Guys bush doubled today and still ran 4th fastest time... Tuohy bush valby 3 best runners today in that order...
Bush did great today and I am so happy for her - but I believe this championship final is going to be quick, like 15:0x kind of fast, collegiate record kind of fast.
It won't be, most of these girls are fading and their best races of the season are behind them... Not to mention sum r doubling... 1530 to 35 pace and the winners will break away and run a little faster

I agree I don't see somebody taking it that hard right from the start. Herberg of WA did not qualify. Chelangat might try but I think that would be a mistake for her.

Yeah Mercy has no sense of tactics... After she doubles she tries to push the pace in a rase where she clearly would have no chance... To hold that pace and win... Maybe she does that again maybe valby pushes the pace maybe some other runner but I doubt it'll be super fast because none of these girls can handle that besides for maybe tuohy at this point... TUOHY big favorite but I'm just saying if I had to say who else would be top three I think bush has a pretty good shot and is a dark horse candidate to win it if some of the other girls are off their game
volunteer coach annie said katelyn indeed was "the pacer" and praises katelyn for pacing her wolfpack to nationals! five nc state runner for the 5000m nationals! thats crazy! if allie hays was in that race she would have qualified too!
katelyn could easily do what mercy did in the first heat which was just blow everyone off and run her own fast race but instead she stayed and controlled the race for her team!

If I'm remembering correctly, didn't Touhy run 15:14 without anyone pushing her, while Nichols ran 15:15 being pushed in a race with pros?
I think this is Touhy's race to lose. There is a lot of talent in the finals field, but she is the fastest 5K runner, meaning she can flat outrun everyone in the field. I'm not saying she should take off sprinting from the gun, but it seems like she would want to push the pace to take advantage of her strength and speed. The thing I noticed in the 1500 at ACC's and then tonight in the 5K is that she took charge of the race early. I believe that being reluctant to take charge is what cost her the indoor 3K, and she has learned from that. I think the only way she loses is if she a) is sick or injured, or b) lets the field control the race and keep it slow to set up a big kick at the end. If she lets them stay close in the last mile, she might get beat (maybe by one of her team mates). She is probably capable of running in the 15:0x range, and I don't think anyone else in the field can do that. She needs to run the kick out of them before the last 800.
All the girls out west look like they needed medical treatment after running barely sub 16 for the 5K in perfect running conditions... I'll be shocked if any of them are in contention... Tuohy should wait till like 1500 to start pushing the pace because if she tries to leave from the gun someone could beat her potentially... If she waits to about 1500 I don't think anyone can stay with her for a fast final 1500...
Mia barnett was in a good position to qualify and had a wipe out when runner in front of her hit slowed down final 200m and her feet was clipped causing her to fall. Tough break she was in a good pace to qualify. Same type of thing with Skyring. Mia been so good all year.
NC State has 9 distances runners going to nationals - 2 in 10K, 5 in 5L, 2 in 1500. NM also has 9 - 2 in 1500, 2 in 3000 S, 3 in 5000 and 2 in 10000. CO has 8 - 2 each in 1500, 3000 S, 5000 and 10000. BYU has 3 I believe - 2 in 3000 S and 1 in 10K, 0 in both 1500 and 5000. 1/3 of 5000 field is NM and NC State.

She ran up on the Furman girl in front of her who slowed to her surprise.

Not that it really matters, but Colorado has 3 qualifiers in the 5000M, so has 9 qualifying times overall. (Only 7 different distance runners, with Covert and Johnson qualified in both the 5000 and 10000.)
Skyring fell down right when the last lap was about to start. Very tough break.
I just rewatched - I must have been distracted as I missed that before. She seemed to be struggling and those behind her went by on both left and right and something got clipped.

My apologizes to India Johnson - missed her at #12. 3 of the top 4 teams in XC have a bunch and BYU only has 3 (having lost Camp-Bennet and Orton-Morgan).
I think the major headline in this NCState domination in the 5K is that they are the clear favorites in the fall to repeat as National Champs! Did everyone forget that Sydney Seymour was 4th in this race and she will be joining the Wolfpack in the fall? And now Starliper in one season after being injured for two years has already made Nationals…… she is not even close to the shape she will be in this fall?!?! And then if Chmiel has a good summer and comes back healthy…..lights out and give them the trophy now.
If this team stays healthy they are way better than their Championship team. I predict right now they could have the lowest Score in Women’s CC history this fall! Back to back titles are coming and the margin of victory will be greater for the second title!
