"The Defense Department is “examining this decision closely and evaluating our policies to ensure we continue to provide seamless access to reproductive health care as permitted by federal law,” Austin said in a statement. “Nothing is more important to me or to this Department than the health and well-being of our Service members, the civilian workforce and [Defense Department] families. I am committed to taking care of our people and ensuring the readiness and resilience of our Force,” he said."
But I'm looking for what Oh stated the Pentagon said. Oh said, quite stridently, that "Today, on the 25th of June 2022: The Pentagon stated that they will ignore the decrees of the Supreme Court" and he also, again quite stridently, said that "Yes, you heard that right: part of the Executive Branch stated publicly and proudly that they will defy the Judicial Branch of the government." (Post #24783).
I haven't found anything close to that. Have you, Sally? And Oh didn't link anything either. That conspicuous absence of support, coupled with his reputation, leads me to believe he may have posted something far short of the truth. We shall see what he comes up with, but the clock is ticking.
What do you think the Pentagon is saying? They are "examining the decision" meaning they do not feel they have to abide by it.
I think it is troubling that the Attorney General Garland would come out with a statement strongly condemning the SC ruling.
Yeah, I think that is troubling as well... but I was more concerned about headlines that said a part of the government is going to willfully disregard laws they don't agree with, but especially that half of the nation (which has been shouting that the other half is trying to destroy democracy and doesn't care about the integrity of the government) is celebrating the idea that parts of the Executive Branch would blatantly ignore the rulings of the Judicial Branch.
Compared to either of those things, the AG stating his and the DoJ's disagreement with the ruling seems like small potatoes in comparison.
First you repeat nonsense about "part of the government is going to willfully disregard laws they don't agree with." Then you make up nonsense about "half of the nation is celebrating the idea that parts of the Executive Branch would blatantly ignore the rulings of the Judicial Branch."
Try to be better. Or just go on being another Sally, GDG, . . . Up to you.
I don't know if what Oh said is accurate, but the Supeme Court is not "going anywhere near the US military." They made a ruling and ndothing more. Why, if what Oh said is correct, would the Pentagon be compelled to make any statement concerning the ruling?
What I said was what was the headline in some news outlets. In the context of articles I looked at, it didn't look like Austin specifically said those words, but rather what you copied from The Hill (which is not quite the same, but I hadn't gotten that far into researching all that was said as it was a reactionary post that I made -- hence the lack of a source link).
It's astonishing that, even though the headlines don't appear to be 100% the case of what's being said, trolls like El Runkin seemingly continue to suggest that it would be okay for parts of the government to be above the laws of the land and that it would be okay for the checks and balances that allow our government to function should be so readily tossed aside.
WTF? I'm the troll, despite your reluctant, heavily nuanced concession and admission that you indeed posted FAKE news and false slander of the United States military on this valued thread? Jesus Christ. That's like the Pharisees teaching the Law of Moses. That's like a snowflake calling a Karen black. Jesus Christ.
I think it is troubling that the Attorney General Garland would come out with a statement strongly condemning the SC ruling.
Don't be troubled. It's a common occurrence, and is of no harm. The Justice Department often submits amicus briefs in cases before the SCOTUS and other courts - the US Attorney General isn't neutral. Presidents often criticize SCOTUS decisions, and it's no more or less troubling that an Attorney General would do the same. Former AGster Meese was a prominent SCOTUS basher. He bashed the SCOTUS to a figurative pulp at times.

I like you, Carmine9. You always lend an unbiased critical eye to these issues. Unlike the rest of these chowderheads, you are willing to roll up your sleeves and take a careful look at the literal language.
Indeed "examine" which comes from the Latin exanimus means in common legal parlance "to reject." "The," of course, is the definite article, often used to drawn negative attention to the subsequent object of the sentence. In context, "decision" is modified by "examine" -- i.e., the US military did not say "the decision will be examined" but rather they were "examining the decision" -- so decision communicates something to be pre-abrogated in the examination process. The US military was very careful in using the words "examining the decision" and we can only conclude, as you readily did, that they were informing the public that they will not be in any kind of abidance of it.
Joe Biden is a decrepit old man who is always falling over. Soon he will probably break a hip. Typically that's the beginning of the end for the elderly

Imagine if Richard Kleindeinst had similarly come out and condemned the Roe V. Wade ruling. You think that would have gone over well?
Now that Roe has been overturned, Georgia's heartbeat law will soon go into effect.
An interesting side effect of the law is that all pregnant women in Georgia prisons will probably be set free until their children are born. The unborn child is considered a legal resident of Georgia and therefore can not be incarcerated without due process.
I don't think so ...
A Legal Resident of the United States presumes that the person has obtained Legal Permanent Residence status.

?? Same darn thing.
They are indicating a willingness to ignore SCOTUS.

How did I "make up nonsense about" half of the nation celebrating the idea that parts of the Executive Branch would blatantly ignore the rulings of the Judicial Branch?
I'll break down the headline for you, and share some sentiments from the left, since you are seemingly unable to do so yourself. I'll even use the Occupy Democrats tweet as the prime example so you can't claim that it's just "rightwing nonsense".
BREAKING NEWS: President Biden’s Pentagon defies the extremist Supreme Court, announces that it will not recognize any anti-abortion laws enacted by states as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision. RT IF YOU SUPPORT THE PENTAGON’S DECISION!
It says right there: DEFY the Supreme Court; WILL NOT RECOGNIZE the laws as a result of the Supreme Court's decision.
The Pentagon, HQ for the Department of the Defense, is a part of the Executive Branch.
The Supreme Court, the highest ranking court in the land, is part of the Judicial Branch.
The Pentagon, again part of the Executive Branch, says (according to the headline) it will defy the Supreme Court (again, part of the Judicial Branch) and will not recognize the laws as a result of the Supreme Court's decision (I said decree, which is the legal term for the decision of a court).
In plain English, the headline states that part of the Executive Branch will willfully ignore the laws of the land because they disagree with the decree of the Supreme Court.
Now, for where those on the left are seemingly celebrating? Here's a sampling of the replies to that tweet:
"HELL YES!!! This is great news!"
"F*** yes!"
"Nice!"
"GOOD!!!! (4 thumbs up emojis)"
"Exactly what I said... don't listen to the political, illegitimate court!!!"

He was speaking English, not Latin.
examine (verb): inspect (someone or something) in detail to determine their nature or condition; investigate thoroughly.

I don't understand what the fuss is about.
The fuss was about headlines (which are still up as tweets that come from sources on both sides of the aisle) that blatantly stated it was more than that: that they would defy the laws because they disagree with the Supreme Court's rulings. I have since noted that Austin didn't say those exact words and that what he said wasn't nearly as bad, but we're still talking about it because a leftist troll was supportive of the idea that the military should ignore the supreme court, and folks on twitter were similarly happy about the idea.

This is a weird attempt to deflect from and obfuscate the fact that you knowingly and willfully posted a falsehood (i.e, FAKE NEWS) regarding the United States military.
Here are YOUR demonstrably false statements in Post #24783 on 06/25/2022 (Year of our Lord) at 9:16pm EST:
"Today, on the 25th of June 2022: The Pentagon stated that they will ignore the decrees of the Supreme Court."
"Yes, you heard that right: part of the Executive Branch stated publicly and proudly that they will defy the Judicial Branch of the government."
You can't deflect or lie your way out of a lie. It just makes things worse you, as now you look like a schmuck in addition to being a liar. Someone should have taught you that vital life lesson, at the appropriate time, during childhood (around ages 7-12).

For all you or I know, Kleindienst did condemn Roe v. Wade. I'm guessing he did, as it would have been the normal thing to do. I'm sure it went over as well or not well as any other AG comment on a controversial matter.
AGs Barr, Thornburg, Sessions and probably others all criticized Roe. Again, AGs submit amicus briefs to the SCOTUS and other courts advocating their position on critical issues. They make statements related to their office weekly. US AGs are not judges and are not neutral on their interpretation of the law or the application of it, nor are they expected to be, and they have all shown that to be true on multiple occasions.

Did you or did you not state "half the nation . . . "? Because I'm pretty sure that the nation has a population of roughly 334 million people. I'm also pretty sure that "OccupyDemocrats" does not speak for 167 million people. How many people were behind your quote? 1? 10? Perhaps something just a bit short of 167 million?
Further, a tweet by OccupyDemocrats is not an official Pentagon communication and has no bearing on Pentagon policy. At least last time I checked.

Here, let me help you out just a bit more.
An intelligent poster with integrity, faced with the same information that you were faced with, might have said something along the lines of:
"It is troubling that some on the left both misrepresent a Pentagon statement and further, celebrate their own misrepresentation."
You could add a few words to expand on this wording. But that would be the essence of it rather than the nonsense you chose to post.
What do you think the Pentagon is saying? They are "examining the decision" meaning they do not feel they have to abide by it.
"examining the decision" means they are trying to interpret the ruling so they will know how to follow the law.
I don't understand what the fuss is about.
Fat Hurts - do you not understand what the Supreme Court did? It seems you don't. There is no interpretation of the ruling. There is no examination of the ruling. They overturned Roe v Wade. They reversed Roe v. Wade. They VACATED Roe v. Wade. Roe V. Wade is like it never existed. For Lloyd Austin to say they need to 'EXAMINE" the decision is idiotic. Again, it is as if Roe V. Wade never happened. Nothing to look at. The military and everyone else has to forget about Roe V. Wade and look at individual states to see how they govern abortion rights.
