Week #2 Atlantic Region Poll is out.
Geneseo and st. lawrence both moving up like expected. I still think that cortland should be ahead of TCNJ. And who knows but I think geneseo's pack could be trouble for NYU, only time will tell.

We'll see, I think it really depends on if NYU has a front runner back in the mix or not. This weekend's VCP race will shed a little more light on this year's NYU squad.
Oneonta is quietly ranked 10th right now...I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they finished better than that at regionals if Pic can get them all to run their best on the same day. Scalfone ran something like 15:40 in the 5k...Durkin was 9:43 in the steeple...Nicholson was 15:50 something in the 5k...ryan wells has run 3:59 in the 1500 and 9:50 something in the steeple thats not a bad top 4. If only they put it together when ryan walters was still there...or get someone else to step up. Its a little bit of a stretch but its certainly possible for them to place high at regionals.
Oneonta certainly has a team capable of turning some heads but i dont see them getting any higher than 8th at Regionals at best. This is a team that finished 7th in the SUNYAC last year and minus Plattsburgh and possibly Fredonia, every team in the YAC has improved this year.
Oneonta still has to beat teams like Rowan, RPI, Ithaca, and Oswego before they can be mentioned with teams like Brockport, RIT, UofR, St Lawrence etc.
Im not even gonna come close to mentioning Oneonta's name with the likes of Geneseo, TCNJ, and NYU during cross-country season.
well Oneonta has yet to prove anything...they've run a 5k and a 6k. In neither of which have they posted any impressive times.
I mean doesn't anyone else look at results...I feel like I'm taking crazy pills
Come'on, the guy is excited that is program is going to crack the top 10 in the region, cut him some slack. Are you sure those "crazy" pills aren't blue and labled viagra?

Which, by a natural and easy transition, reminds me of a riddle:
Q: What happens when a lawyer takes Viagra?
A: He gets taller.
It was just an observation that I made about their ability to just possibly run faster...not that they will. I stand by my point saying that if if if they put it together on the same day and if if if that day is regionals they could finish higher than tenth.
my question is how many teams everyone thinks the atlantic region will get into nationals.
I predict 4 off not much research. NYU, Geneseo, Cortland, TCNJ. I think a team like SLU, RIT, brockport would need to beat some of these teams either at regionals obviously or in some of their last 3 meets that are looked at in the selection.
Did a little searching today and came up with this as a very preliminary look at who the contenders are for the 7 individual spots to the NCAA's...
I'd say Geneseo, TCNJ, and NYU are all pretty much locks to make it into the NCAA's team wise so ive taken away all of their runners.
I also believe that Cortland and/or St. Lawrence have a very good shot at also making it if everything goes right for them.
At most, i see this region getting 4 teams possibly 5 at a very big stretch.
Here's the indivduals i have come up with that will be competing for those 7 spots..(in no particular order)
Shamus Nally, Cortland
Andy Cloke, Cortland
Nate Lowe, RIT,
Jesse Williamson, RIT
Erik Donahoe, St. Lawrence
John Gaudette, St. Lawrence
Matt Deshane, Plattsburgh
Ryan Kolb, Brockport
Tony Battista, Oswego
Fontana Fluke, Alfred
Andrew Forma, Fredonia
Erik Geisinger, Rowan
I'd have to agree with most of your list, but one particular person jumps out as not belonging with that group. I will not point him out, but if you include this person, then I could easily name another 15 people who should be considered.
Also, I posted this back in July and I still think it makes sense now.
"My thinking is that we have a very good chance of getting 4 teams. Check out this breakdown:
atlantic - 4
central - 5
great lakes - 4
mideast - 4
midwest - 5
new england - 5
south/southeast - 2
west - 3
That's 32 teams. I'd say this is pretty realistic."
Looking at it now, the one thing I would change is the west with 3. That's not going to happen. So there would be another at-large spot up for grabs.
who would you not include? all of those people are legit with good histories at their schools of people making it to nationals... when was the last time fredonia represented?
fredonia runner james sweeney made it about 3 years ago...i can't remember the last time they made it as a team though
There's still 2 full months to go but needless to say, it's gonna be a really close and exciting race at regionals. Lots of good newcomers, wild cards of sorts and people like Kolb, Cloke, Williamson coming back for a final go. Is DeShane's last season gonna blow away Turner and CFred's? NYU, Geneseo, TCNJ are beastly as always and Cortland should be cool to see what they can do when they finally race their A squad in a big meet. Of course it's on a historically flat, fast, (short?) course in Geneseo which should only make it more interesting of a race. I think the big blue monster (Geneseo for the non-SUNYAC-ers) can more than run with NYU's big guns and that should be a sweet team matchup. Lots of stuff can go down between now so we shall see in 2 months from now who shows up for real.
Geneseo's course was only short that one year at regionals....they run on a slightly different course now that's the correct distance. Times are fairly fast because it's mostly flat, but they're not unreasonably fast.
I'm still waiting/hoping to see another DFILM video from the Cortland guys. Like last year's http://mm.dfilm.com/mm2s/mm_route.php?id=2619330
maybe this guy?

I'm not sure what my reaction is to that video. Part of me wants to laugh. Part of me wants to say how lame it is. But the biggest part of me wants to roll my eyes at all the time these SUNY Cortland runners seemingly have on their hands to make videos instead of running, going to class, doing homework, or studying.
