Just rewatched Hocker’s finish. My goodness that was impressive. From 2 meters back to 3 meters in front in the span of 3 seconds. If I’m Nuguse I don’t know what my strategy would be for the final.
Run 3:30.xx and be out-of-reach. Hocker and Kessler can out kick him at anything 3:32 and slower.
Agreed, that HAS to be the strategy, but I honestly don’t know if it’s enough.
Hocker ran one of the most effortless looking 3:34’s yesterday that I’ve ever seen. Today he puts his head down, sprints for a few seconds, and suddenly he’s 5m in front of the field. Hocker just feels a step above Nuguse right now (based only in the prelim races).
As long as both those dudes qualify I’ll be happy, but that final is shaping up to be the most exciting 1500m US championship we’ve seen in a while.
Nuguse beat hocker by more than 2 seconds within the past month. Doesn't mean he will again, but people pretending that he doesn't have a path to beating him are deluding themselves.

They get too excited anytime they think their guy has a chance.

Very different race dynamics. Nuguse certainly can win but it won’t be by that much or resemble that race.

Yeah a paced Bowerman mile and a US championship final are wildly different. Both look great though, just want them both in Paris.

Obviously. But a two second gap in recent perfoemances should keep anyone from overreacting to heats that they each controlled. Comical to suggest that Nuguse doesn't have the tools in his bag to win, but this forum does embrace internet traditions of knee jerking and wild extrapolation for the lulz
Richardson, Jefferson, and Terry top 3 in 10.71, 10.80, and 10.89. I’m particularly impressed by Twanisha Terry making the team after qualifying for the final on time
