He ran 69-70 for laps 2-5, then ran 68, 71, 67.9. Getting his foot clipped isn’t getting tripped. He didn’t go down, people get jostled, and he faded down the stretch.
To be fair, he didn't lose to Sheesley by 12 seconds because he got tripped. He rolled and was back on his feet pretty quickly and was in the race until late. Falling obviously isn't ideal, but there's degrees of it and his was not as bad as the fall that happened later in the race with the other guys. My guess is that he probably runs closer to the 9:08 range if he doesn't fall. Good thing they are going to Jesuit later this year.
True, but falling often hurts you mentally more than physically.
I think it’s rash to simply say that Sheesley is the better athlete than him at this point, and even if it doesn’t look like he got physically hurt, someone who knows him will have to ask because we might just not be able to pick it up from the video.
Like you said, Jesuit will be a true indicator of where he’s at.
CDA projected 4-5-6 runners next fall (in no particular order) Rohlinger - 4:38 1600 Rietze - 9:53 3200 / 4:41 1600 Heule - 4:43 1600 / 9:54 3200 (as a freshman!) Assuming their top 3 will be the Cervi-Skinners and Carr

Pretty good showing for Idaho guys. Would have been cool to get a couple more under 9, but Ringert, Sheesley, Max, and Lucas should all get another opportunity later this year at sea level meets.
Patriot meet saw Rilyn Stevens go sub 11, Sasha Livingston and Alex Terry run 11:09 and 11:10, respectively, and Betsy Reeder run 11:15. 5A District III is now faster in the girls 3200 through 10 than it was last year, and we have 6 weeks to go.
Boise has two boys go sub 10 at Patriot, Rocky now has 6 boys sub 10 already. Top freshman boy marks at Patriot for 1600 are 4:36 for Spiers, 4:44 for Bruce, 4:47 for Majors, Dawson in 4:50. Top 3200m marks are Spiers in 10:07, Anderson in 10:18, Hilliam in 10:20, and Culpepper in 10:25.

Although it takes 5 to score, it helps a lot to have 6 guys. NXR 2023 showed that.
Just looking around at what some schools in the valley have for best marks for freshman, using TullyRunners speed ratings- everything at 100 or above:
Boise: 143, 143, 116, 100
Centennial: 134, 108, 100
Eagle: 137, 136, 109
Mountain View: 140, 135, 130
Rocky: 151, 144, 137, 132, 115, 106
A couple of quick notes- Luke Bruce has a lifetime speed rating best of 153 from last year. Boise also has 9th graders that ran 115, 113, 104, and 102. Eagle's #3 has a lifetime best of 130, and they have another freshman that had a 115 last year on the track. Mountain View has one meet under their belts, so they will probably see a nice increase soon, too.
Rocky's Michael Majors ran 4:52 last spring as an 8th grader. I don't see any other readily available times on athletic.net from the WASD meet.
Boise has lifetime bests of 153, 143, 116, 115, 113, 104, 102, 100 vs. Rocky's 151, 144, 137, 132, 115, 106.
CDA has 176, 160, 127, 124, 113, 111, 101. Scoring those three against each other gets you CDA and Rocky neck and neck and Boise about 10 points back. All three freshman classes are very good. Rocky's is hurt if Michael Majors doesn't run XC, or if he isn't same level (a la another runner everyone projected to be a major contributor for Rocky this fall).
Majors was on the soccer team last fall. So we don’t know if he will stick with that or switch to XC.

I think let’s just be more fair on here. We don’t need to speculate or guess at what Lucas time is - it is what it is - but the rolling somersault, shoulder bruise and bloody hand unlikely led him to his best time.
I think we should be celebrating Idaho running and progress more than bashing or comparing.
