Almost every runner experiences burnout and injuries. Please tell me the CU athletes who have suffered long term health damage or loss of life. I've not heard of any.
Not eating disorder related. But Chris Severy.
Wetmore did say they needed to melt the fat off of him though. May have contributed to him biking to and from his cabin.
Bringing up Chris Severy on this thread is lower than low. We aren't speaking about loss of life, and "loss of life" never should have been brought up in the first place.
Anyways.
There's a long road to drive between a team that does "theme days" and one that obsesses too much about weight. You can be a serious program that coaches hard without doing sum of seven body comp crap. See: NC State.
Universities and sports programs benefit from having “legendary” coaches in their past. When everything went down at Penn State, the way Joe Paterno will always be remembered changed, and it did a lot of permanent damage to the university and the team. I think schools with coaches in that category (like Wetmore) always want to avoid messy endings if possible.

Do recruits not do any research on the college programs that they are interested in? I would think that the whole body composition thing was pretty well known for a while or at the very least that it was a point of interest for the staff(especially after RWTB released). I know we are talking about high school kids but if I personally weren't a fan of having my body composition put under a microscope I probably would not have chosen Wetmore to be my coach to begin with.
I am glad that everyone keeps their jobs after this investigation. The jobs of the staff are to put together a nationally competitive cross country roster. Regardless of how you feel about this whole situation, I think you should probably know what you are getting yourself into before you sign those scholarship papers
