Respect to Kipruto for running side by side instead of drafting/lurking
^This. Seems strong. Makes me wonder if he could pull an upset.
Looking at DarkSky, the wind is 13 mph in Tokyo, gusting to 25 mph out of the NW. I fyou look at the course map,t he final 4.2 k is almost due north(tiny bit to the east). That means they will likely be slowing down.

Of course, Kipchoge has wonderful natural running gifts, but he has the strongest mental focus of any runner I’ve ever seen. I think that’s what has made him the greatest marathoner ever.
by the way, it’s great to watch a Japanese marathon. I am not missing the personal asides that we always see on American televised marathons. They haven’t even spoken to any bystanders along the course!
Apart from the running, I'm amazed at how smooth the streets are compared to NJ
are elite male runners running the marathon now? no tracking board at all.
Sara HAll's AR appears to be done. At 25k, she was like 90 seconds behind the leaders. It' snow 2+ minutes and I don't see her at 30k.
Oh wait, she just showed up. AR attempt is indeed over. She's on 2:20:19 pace.

Kipruto running an amazingly gutsy race.
Predicting kipchoge makes his move at 37.5k
I mean how do you make a move when you’re already running 2:02 flat pace? a “move” would result from in a WR. I’m hoping it happens!
Kipruto starting to go behind Kipchoge instead of by his side. Does that mean he's tiring?
We have some separation, folks.
Starting to see a bit of separation.
Agreed, daylight there
Last 5k was 14:39 after 14:25 before that. (14:24 is WR pace).

Not necessarily, if what has been said about the wind is true, could just be using Kipchoge as a wind block.
The gap is widening. It's over.
