Many people are using the 1 black coach out of 32 positions compared with blacks composing 70% of NFL players as an indicator of bias.
People who interpret this as an indication of bias don't fully understand statistics dealing with small population sizes and as being a reflection of current status rather than a pattern. In 2011 there were 7 black head coaches. Does that indicate that the NFL was not biased then but 11 years later became biased.
No it reflects error variance due to a small population sample.
The percentage of black head coaches is not so troubling by itself, rather it’s the fact that even Belichik knew who had been selected before Flores had even been interviewed. That is a pretty damning case in favor of Flores’ discrimination argument.
The Giants already dunked that claim with convincing evidence that they (you know, the team that actually was making the hiring decision) had not decided on anyone the day BB (a guy who doesn't exactly have a lot of friends around the league) allegedly sent a text "knowing" that the Giants had already picked Daboll.
As already has been explained on here, the Giants very well may have talked to Daboll and decided that he was their guy unless someone cleared his very high bar. Anyone who has conducted interviews knows that is a normal way of hiring. You have a list of people to interview and if one of the early interviewees nails it, then that's your person unless someone can beat it. Flores's claims against the Giants are DOA.
