As we sit here today with what we know about DeSantis today, while I of course wouldn't vote for DeSantis, I could stomach DeSantis as President. Normal policy issues don't make or break my life. Authoritarianism and ignoring the rule of law can and will. As we sit here today, there is no evidence that DeSantis would thumb his nose at the rule of law like Trump has, he has not been enabled his whole life like Trump has, so he likely doesn't have the idea that he can get away with everything.
2024 will come down to even what 2020 did...the economy. As horrible as Trump was as President, to unseat a sitting President, the economy needs to be bad, and it was at election time in 2020. We were in a recession. The unemployment rate was high. Voters NEVER care about the reasons for such things.
When 2024 comes around, if we are in recession and/or continue to have high inflation close to the time of the election, Biden or another Democrat candidate will lose. If 2024 comes around and we are NOT in recession and we no longer have high inflation, Biden or another Democrat candidate will win. There are other factors that play into it...if we are in a war we are losing, that would be bad for the incumbent party, but all this noise about "dementia Joe" and so on just doesn't matter when electing a President.
"Normal policy issues don't make or break my life. Authoritarianism and ignoring the rule of law can and will."
It's so disappointing that so few Rs/conservatives understand this. Even fairly intelligent, well-educated, seemingly reasonable ones.
Of course, given that that group is a subset of country that consistently thinks, "I'll 'punish' whatever party has the WH if I generally don't one or more things going on in the country at the time - regardless of the control/influence they might have over them - it's not all that surprising.
And regarding the midterm "punishment" phenomena, I think the media (and pretty much everyone?) are far too kind in discussing this. Fine, it happens. Say that. But I don't know that I've ever even heard a pundit comment on what a sad commentary it is about the intelligence and logic of Americans. And it's REALLY sad.
Q: So, you're voting against that party because you have general sense that things are going bad?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you know much about the political cause and effect regarding these things that currently bother you?
A: No, not really.
Q: Do you realize that the party you're voting against agrees with you on a majority of policy issues?
A: Uh, no, not really.
Q: Does that fact change the equation at all?
A: Uh, no, not really. Things are bad, so......
As agip might phrase it, a seriously "un-serious" country.
Says the "conservative" who voted for a progressive Democrat...
Wonder what Nikki Haley a true republican is saying about the orangeman these days. Sure not happy birthday. Nancy Mace red candidate will beat another orange one.

Wrong thread. We have a Trump thread for posts about your continued obsession.
Hunter Biden recorded himself boasting that his father will adopt political positions at his command, footage obtained from a copy of his abandoned laptop shows.
Your original statement was: “Mail in ballots are rife with fraud which is why the rest of the world won't use them.”
This is misleading. Germany uses them. The UK uses them. You amended this after the fact to “most.” That’s a goalpost shift.
Your argument seems to be that because we didn’t verify that every signature matched in Pennsylvania, the democrats MUST have fudged a bunch of ballots. Is that seriously the best argument the big lie has? That we don’t know if they cheated so they probably cheated? There’s no actual proof? What a shame
There's multiple reasons to believe cheating was going on.
Biden got 81 MILLION votes. LOL!
The number of mail ballots more than DOUBLED from 2016 to 2020. Plausible since coronavirus was in full swing.
But, the rejection rate on mail in ballots went from 1.4% in 2018 and 1.0% in 2016 to .8% in 2020. Not plausible.
No president has won an election without Ohio since 1960. Biden lost Ohio by 10 points.
No president has lost Ohio and Florida and won since 1960. Biden lost Florida by 4 points.
Biden lost 16 of 17 bellwether counties.
This is not the compelling argument you think it is.
Biden's 81 million votes are only 34% of the registered voting population. In the grand scheme of things, that's neither particularly high or particularly impressive considering how many people despise Trump and would vote for ANYONE to get rid of him: it puts him on par with Nixon and Eisenhower. If the Democrats had put forward a better candidate, they probably could have gotten closer to 85-90 million votes because of how hated Trump was.
As for bellwether counties and states... the landscape is always changing.
This is the complete list of states that flipped from Trump: Wisconsin (1.40% swing from +0.77% to -0.63%) Pennsylvania (1.88% swing from +0.72% to -1.16%) Michigan (3.01% swing from +0.23% to -2.78%) Arizona (3.81% swing from +3.50% to -0.31%) Georgia (5.37% swing from +5.13% to -0.24%) Nebraska-2 (8.74% swing from +2.24% to -6.50%)
-Michigan has voted Democrat more often than not in recent history (2016 was the first time it went to the GOP since 1988) -Pennsylvania only shifted by less than 2% and has matched Michigan's vote since WW2 every time except 1976 (PA voted for Carter, MI for Ford) -Wisconsin only shifted by less than 2% and has voted Democrat even more often than Michigan or Pennsylvania (prior to Trump, last GOP to win WI was Reagan)
-The only flips that look questionable on the surface is Arizona, Georgia and Nebraska-2. Arizona was already thoroughly looked into by a right wing group and couldn't find evidence that Biden didn't win the state.
Based strictly on which states flipped, Georgia and Nebraska-2 are the only ones that seem remotely questionable... Biden had 36 more EVs than he needed to win, and Georgia was worth 16 and NE-2 was worth 1. This is NOT remotely convincing evidence that the election was stolen from Trump. You'd need a LOT more evidence than that... and you're not going to do that unless you can verify in a FAR more conclusive and irrefutable manner what 2000 Mules tried to do.
I didn’t make the comment that people were denied the right to vote in Georgia. You did. I assume (falsely, I guess) that you have some basis for making such a claim. I guess not. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
That seems to be your MO. Make some outlandish claim and then present zero evidence to back up that claim. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
The minimum political parties operating in a democracy should do is denounce anti-democratic activity. But in the party of law and order, affiliation with the far-right group that helped stage the Jan. 6 insurrection is treat...
