We can produce more oil, but the oil companies don't want to.
I sort of agree with you about nuclear. I don't think it will ever be cost effective to build new plants, but we do need to spend more to upkeep the plants we have and finish the ones under construction.
The transition off oil and gas is already happening fast. But by fast I mean we will use very little of it within 20 years. Unfortunately, that may cause supply problems as investors stop spending money on long term gas and oil projects. Transitions are never easy.
If oil companies didn't want to produce more oil then there would be no need for government intervention. No reason for Biden to cancel leases if nobody wanted them anyway.
Building nuclear plants would get cheaper if we do it more due to economies of scale. Developing countries like India are building them. How can they afford it and not us?
Biden isn't canceling leases. He canceled the sales of some new leases in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. The reason given was:
The Interior Department announced the decision Wednesday night, citing a lack of industry interest in drilling off the Alaska coast and “conflicting court rulings” that have complicated drilling efforts in the Gulf of Mexico, where the bulk of U.S. offshore drilling takes place,
I suspect that with India's economy growing so fast, it is economical to add new base load using nuclear. The market for new base load here is not as great. But that's just a guess. I'm sure there are other factors.
I do wish it was cheap to build new nuclear plants here. The safety record is actually pretty good. But nobody wants them in their back yard. That's true for both Democrats and Republicans.
If someone believes climate change is a hoax, how can you have a conversation with that person about energy policy? It’s like trying to talk to my dog about NBA basketball.
The people who are most passionate about climate change all seem to know the least about it. It's a political movement not a scientific movement.
Show me a climate model that isn't complete trash and we'll talk about whether or not global warming is a problem. Let alone a man made problem.
What would either of us know about climate models?
The "FIRST ONE" you checked was 20 down the list eh?
"In September 2014, BrightSource ended its upcoming California projects, withdrawing its application for a solar thermal power plant at Palen, near Riverside. Biologists, Native American groups, and advocates for Joshua Tree National Park were concerned that the bright light and heat of the Palen project's heliostats would prove fatal for birds. The company shifted its focus to overseas projects.[25] In November 2014, Bright Source announced a joint venture with Shanghai Electric to build "utility scale solar thermal projects," and proposed the "construction of two 135 megawatt (MW) CSP plants as part of the Qinghai Delingha Solar Thermal Power Generation Project."[26] In March 2016, it was confirmed that BrightSource is supplying technology to Ashalim Power Station.[27] In September 2016, BrightSource signed a deal to sell its Ivanpah solar farm technology to a Chinese project owned by a state-run energy company.[28] Arnold Goldman, the founder of BrightSource, died in 2017.[29] In 2020 it was reported that the main telephone number of BrightSource was directed to voicemail and that the most recent announcement on the website was from 2017."

You are living in fantasy land.
Less than 40% of the oil is used by cars. The notion that we'll be using little oil in 20 years is absolutely absurd.
Tesla is 20 years old. In 20 years, Tesla has managed to to become less than 1% of the market. What on earth makes you think companies that don't even exist yet are going to replace all of the buses, trucks, planes, and ships completely in the next 20 years???
Your problem is that you are thinking linearly. We are talking about exponential growth here, which is what happens with technology adoption. It follows an S-curve that starts very slowly then ramps up fast.
Tesla started very, very small. But they are growing at over 50% per year. And now other automakers are jumping on the bandwagon and growing their own EV efforts very fast as well.
Take a look at what happens when something grows at 50% per year compounded for several years. Then get back to me.
What on earth makes you think companies that don't even exist yet are going to replace all of the buses, trucks, planes, and ships completely in the next 20 years???
BTW, companies that make electric buses, trucks, planes, and ships already exist.
Electric buses in particular are a huge business for companies like Volvo, BYD, and Proterra.

Tesla makes cars. Where is the Tesla of cargo ships? Where is the Tesla of airplanes? Where is the Tesla of semi-trucks?
50% of nothing is still nothing. The growth isn't going to be nearly as fast as you seem to think.
I hope you're still alive in 20 years so we can have a good giggle about how wrong you were.
Has anyone seen the evidence that Trump wanted Pence killed? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fat said it was a text. I showed him all of Trump's texts from 1/6 and asked him which text was the the criminal death threat and he immediately started talking about EVs...

17% of the world's buses are electric. 99% of that 17% is in China.
You voted for a guy with more draft deferments than Trump has.
If you were more intelligent you'd pick a different hill to die on.
My question for all of the Democrats that love the Biden's so much yet hate the Trump's. The question is if there was a giant bowl of cocaine and Donald Jr and Hunter Biden are in the same room left alone who is going to fail the drug test?
GREAT choice of questions since Donald Jr and Hunter Biden have been the last two presidents of the US!

of course government can favor one industry over another.
every nation does this. heck, your boy trump did this, over and over and over with his tariffs.
One of the jobs of gummint is to prevent the tragedy of the commons...the idea that if a common grassy area in a village is controlled by market forces, livestock would eat it all up and impoverish the village. Government has to control market forces to create long term growth and wealth.
Gummint's job is to help insure the long-term health of the nation. it's 100% clear that the era of carbon is on the way out. Gummint helping the nation get a boost and advantage over other nations is a core concept.
remember when repubs mocked Obama for supporting Tesla in its early days? Rs called Tesla a loser. Now look at it....one of the greatest companies ever to exist. Might not have happened without that seed money from Obama's WH.
From way back in 2009: 2009!!!!!!
Feds Lend Tesla $465 Million to Build Model S The Obama Administration will lend Tesla Motors $465 million to build an electric sedan and the battery packs needed to propel it. It’s one of three loans totaling almost $8 billion that the Department of Energy awarded today to spur the development of fuel-efficient vehicles. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced that the Department of Energy […]
Yea the Obama administration gave over $90 BILLION to their buddies in failed green energy scams. Dozens of companies and Tesla is pretty much the only one that didn't steal the money and disappear.
Evergreen Solar ($24 million)* SpectraWatt ($500,000)* Solyndra ($535 million)* Beacon Power ($69 million)* AES’s subsidiary Eastern Energy ($17.1 million) Nevada Geothermal ($98.5 million) SunPower ($1.5 billion) First Solar ($1.46 billion) Babcock and Brown ($178 million) EnerDel’s subsidiary Ener1 ($118.5 million)* Amonix ($5.9 million) National Renewable Energy Lab ($200 million) Fisker Automotive ($528 million) Abound Solar ($374 million)* A123 Systems ($279 million)* Willard and Kelsey Solar Group ($6 million) Johnson Controls ($299 million) Schneider Electric ($86 million) Brightsource ($1.6 billion) ECOtality ($126.2 million) Raser Technologies ($33 million)* Energy Conversion Devices ($13.3 million)* Mountain Plaza, Inc. ($2 million)* Olsen’s Crop Service and Olsen’s Mills Acquisition Company ($10 million)* Range Fuels ($80 million)* Thompson River Power ($6.4 million)* Stirling Energy Systems ($7 million)* LSP Energy ($2.1 billion)* UniSolar ($100 million)* Azure Dynamics ($120 million)* GreenVolts ($500,000) Vestas ($50 million) LG Chem’s subsidiary Compact Power ($150 million) Nordic Windpower ($16 million)* Navistar ($10 million) Satcon ($3 million)*
All bankrupt.
Wait, wait, so now going bankrupt equals "stealing the money?" Dang, never knew that.
What then, does that make Trump -the King of Bankruptcy?

The Biden admin is clearly full of sh!t re Alaska, sorry not trusting that for a second

If he has to walk back any more erroneous statements, we’re going to have to call him the fat Joe Biden.

well sure but I don't think that's the case here. Johnson Controls? Enormous company.
The rube got his facts from some biased right-wing source and won't retract or step back.
He's the problem, not me.
Obama's green energy subsidies were a DISASTER. The only reason you don't know this is because you get all of your information from biased left-wing sources...
You won't find many articles criticals of Democrat policy in the leftist main stream media.
You're like a person who knows literally nothing about someone but what their ex-wife told them...
I see you've conceded the point to agip and are now trying to move the conversation over so nobody notices.
Now, if only you could come out of living in your post-fact world. Nah, you might find that your feelings get hurt sometimes if you have to deal with the real world.
Your problem is that you are thinking linearly. We are talking about exponential growth here, which is what happens with technology adoption. It follows an S-curve that starts very slowly then ramps up fast.

Tesla will soon be the Tesla of semi-trucks. Tesla has already delivered electric semi-trucks to Pepsi and plans to ramp up full production next year. Nikola, Volvo, and BYD are already in production of electric and hydrogen-powered semis.
We do have companies making electric ships and planes, but they are smaller (both the companies and their vehicles).
Planes will be the hardest to replace. But they are really only needed for long flights. Most short haul passenger flights can be replaced with high speed robotaxis.
At that point, the world won't have much need for fossil fuels. In 20 years fossil fuels might only be needed for large planes, and ships.
Temperatures across the globe are rising. The vast majority of glaciers are receding. At some point when Greenland and the Antarctic only have seasonal snow and ice, places like Bangladesh will be underwater and the 180 million people who live there and hundreds of millions of people living in other low lying places are going to try to migrate to places which are not inundated. The result will be chaos and famine. This does not even take into account the changes in patterns of where agricultural crops can be grown and where drought and floods occur. Additionally, at some point the global ocean current system may flip (as it did the last time that temperatures rose so rapidly 55 million years ago) which will completely change the climates in Western Europe and the eastern United States. But this is all decades into the future, but there is a good chance that people being born now will have to deal with a post-apocalyptic scenario in their lifetimes.
