Great comments, very insightful!
Yeah Tuohy is awesome! Super Runner, great kid, works really hard and looks out for a teammates
The conditions and the stress was crazy. She still had a great year and is right where she needs to be for continued success. What an awesome kid let's appreciate what she accomplished
Watching her post-race interview on runnerspace was super sad. The girl just won a 3rd straight national championship and she said after the race to her coach “Wow, that was embarrassing.” She also said people were saying she was going to lose (I’m assuming she read predictions on this board?). I only hope in the future that she doesn’t read the crap online and trusts herself and her training.
She seems like a great kid and she should be proud of all her accomplishments... not worrying about the 5 idiots on here saying she is done.

Welcome to a real cross country course Methner!
Did you even watch the race? No one thought Methner was gonna beat Nico, and many had him finishing 5th or 6th. Obviously his performance will be overshadowed by an incredible run by Nico Young, but Josh proved he is really is the #2 guy in the nation. If anything I think he far exceeded everyone expectations
Completely agree with you on that^
Wow, 2 time champ, stressed out, people said she was going to lose....hello, toughen up girl
That sub 14 road race at Detweiler’s 2.97 mile course isn’t that impressive when he got destroyed by Nico.
Interesting list of former winners. Are any of them still running?
Back in the Midwest everyone thought Methner would triumph.
For every one person on this site there are 500+ runners or running enthusiasts that are NOT, so to base your comments only on what you read on this cesspool site shows what you know.

You're talking about a 17/18 year-old girl who is a 2-time reigning champion being told by everyone she is going to win (and a few saying she will lose and washed up). She has 70K+ Instagram followers (way more than any other male or female HS XC runner), a huge following in general, etc. Plus she seems to be really hard on herself. She has done everything to stay out of the spotlight, but obviously that's impossible with how good of a career she has had. She is bound to feel stressed.
Imagine the headline if she lost. The sad truth is it likely would have focused on her losing instead of who the winner was.
I know that's hard for you to comprehend because you're running your local Turkey Trot and your parents are the only ones who care or comment on how well or poorly you do. Another idiotic, insensitive comment on here. When you're the best female high school cross country runner in HS history, come talk about pressure.

Yeah it seemed like she was about to burst into tears any second. I don't have anything to base this on, but I almost got the impression that all of the emotion of the race and the pressure leading up to it was still affecting her afterwards. Even though she pulled it off, it was a lot of weight to carry, so that release can be emotional. I wonder if part of her is actually glad it's all done and the book is written on her HS XC career.
I'm glad on her behalf that this race is over and in the books. She earned it and she deserves to be the only three time winner. But it even dawned on me how important this race was to cap her career. If she lost it that would be the story, and not all the extraordinary things she has accomplished.

Dude I'm sorry but you're wrong. I went to Hersey and all us alumns thought on a good day he could be top 3. No one would overhype a guy more than his own teammates. Obviously we wanted Methner to win, but we knew Nico was by far the better competitor. If you read what the Dyestat/Milesplit guys were thinking, they unanimously thought Nico would finish in front of Methner. I don't know where you got the idea that "Everyone in the Midwest thought Methner would triumph", but you're mistaken. If anything, Methner exceeded many of our expectations.
To the people saying Nico “destroyed” Methner... hypocrisy galore. When Tuohy won NXN by 17 seconds, people were commending second place for being so close. But Nico wins by 14 and he destroys Methner? Nah. Nico was dominant, and had an amazing race, but “destroyed” is a bit of an exaggeration.
As for Tuohy, she certainly earned that win today. So exciting! Congrats go out to her and now I hope she can take a deep breath and rest a little before track.
proper trend analysis comes from using multiple numbers to get an accurate reading over a period of time.
Using a comparison of one race over a year and calling it a trend is basically nonsensical drivel...based on that thinking, I guess Katelynne Hart wont be able to qualify against Gr 6 runners next year.

She WALKED up that last hill, I thought it was done at that point.
Even if someone beats Ewert by 6 minutes at FL and does a backflip across the finish line Tuohy is still the athlete of the year, sorry.
completely agree, thought she had lost at that point....really surprised me to see the sprint finish
Agreed. She had the best overall season and every girl in the country has now lost this season other than her anyways.
But thanks for the clarification. Definitely thought it was over for her too at that rate. I’m sure seeing that gave Ewert and Thorvaldson some adrenaline. I wish Tuohy looked back less during the end.
+1

agree on both....Methner really impressed me today. Nico was awesome and deserves all credit....but Methner ran a great race as well. Vastly increased my opinion of him.

Dumb! She was stress cuz she literally had hundreds of thousands of people expecting her to win
She had hundreds of thousands of people going to be disappointed with anything less than a win
The other girls could have died at the end came in 5-6-7 places lower and everyone would have still been super proud of them
It's a huge psychological difference. Think about it!
Probably a half million people around the country maybe a million know KatelynTuohy
She felt bad about pulling out a gutsy win because she knows people are expecting her to dominate. That's tough for a high school kid
I don't know why that would be tough to understand the incredible difference in the way people are looking at her compared to the other Runners
Again the other Runners know that if they run hard and die at the end and finished 10 spots down people will still feel really good about their effort
Exactly!
I'm sure the person who says she should toughen up has hundreds of thousands of people expecting them to dominate every time they do their thing
Sure it's unfathomable how that would be stressful for a 17 year old girl to deal with the expectations of a big part of the running community in the United States. Probably some a Canada as well!
Will someone kindly explain why schools are competing under different names (e.g., Saratoga Springs as "Kinetic" and Great Oak as "Temecula")?
