I wonder what the new information was that the university received in the past 24 hours that pushed them to fire him?
The Trackie message board is going to explode.
Seems inevitable. Sadly, we have far more of these academic/athletic scandals in the US, and the pattern is pretty familiar.
Sounds like a bombshell came out in the past 24 hours.
Up until now Guelph was moving slow and letting the process unfold - but this is a pretty quick turnabout from the no comment of last week.
Oh my. So where there was smoke, there was indeed fire. (Much to the chagrin of the Guelph apologists here)
This is a tragic end for a great coach who built a ridiculously successful program. Perhaps hubris and power got the best of him....and I feel for those hurt by this, directly or indirectly.
Word has it a big Globe and Mail investigation is about to come out, and that a few people went on record about DST's behaviour. I imagine the University was confronted with this information by the reporter and was forced to act. (I am pretty sure one of the cases is an old one, and if "Me Too" was around 15 years ago would DST would have been in trouble way back then).

This is spot on.
The only open question for now is what the other allegations are, and whether they are proven, or whether Guelph has just had enough smoke and doesn’t want to be associated with a reputational nightmare any longer.
Dave must have sick the day ethics was being taught at the Level 4 school at UVIC.
I doubt the University of Guelph wants to risk a massive wrongful dismissal lawsuit, the smart bet is that Dave Scott-Thomas's termination was warranted.
Kaboom some serious stuff went down cause now AC has walked https://runningmagazine.ca/the-scene/athletics-canada-severs-ties-with-speed-river-and-uofg/
Didn't expect them to just shut up the whole centre of excellence so quickly, like it or not there is a huge community there which wouldn't vanish overnight just because DST went down. Definitely must have been something consdierable to make everyone want to turn tail and run like that.
I'm really curious as to what comes out of this Globe and Mail investigation because damn that is quick. The fact UofG said "information in past 24 hours" and now this.
Maybe something Mary Cain-esque. Grey area stuff, toeing the line, peoples weight, unethical behaviour in the name of performance and putting athletes health at risk?
Small Globe and Mail article https://www.theglobeandmail.com/amp/sports/article-guelph-fires-long-time-track-coach-dave-scott-thomas-for/

I don't disagree that it was very likely warranted, but let's say sexual assault is alleged (no idea if it is, just an example). Guelph could rightfully dismiss him for a bunch of peripheral things - relationship with an athlete, or creating a sexualised culture, etc., but that doesn't necessarily mean the allegation of sexual assault is proven.
In the end it is probably a distinction without a difference, but affairs, or bullying, or improper influence wielding, while all terrible, are different to me than sexual assaults or financial crimes.
It is sort of like Alberto vs Weinstein - they are both terrible, but Weinstein is a criminal.
In any event, if there are victims here, my sympathies are with them.

The AC statement and action was confusing. It was basically - we have no complaints on Dave and he has had a very successful career, and we don't know what the report said, but we will shut everything down any way.
I would think they wanted to move fast to get clear of this situation specifically when it comes to DST in particular.
Over time, they can reestablish the centre in its same form, just without DST having any involvement, if there is anything left.
Globe and Mail exclusive. If I was a betting woman I’d guess the article will say DST had a sexual relationship high schooler MB.

Damn if that’s true that would destroy Canadian T&F. Hopefully it’s not true and it’s something significantly less horrible.

I don't believe it was a high schooler, but I have heard that there was an athlete relationship a 10+ years ago. This type of situation certainly isn't unique to Guelph though, as I'm sure some CIS/U Sports people can attest to, so I don't know if there's more to the DST story or if other programs will follow suit if this does turn out to be the reason he was fired.
This seems like it is going way beyond a Metcalf scenario, more like an Alberto situation in terms of repercussions. Or worse?
Nobody is listing anything specific.
To fire someone and cite "the well-being of our student-athletes is a priority" basically says DST is a threat to athletes.
This statement basically makes him unemployable - anywhere.
Swift dismissal is said to be prompted by information that came to light in the last 24 hours.
How does verification and the rest of due process play out in less than a day?
One can only assume DST was confronted and made some damning admission.
If that were the case, you think he tried to resign but wasn't permitted to.
If this doesn't hold up, this is looking like a lawsuit.

Not a single person has taken to twitter like the Alberto, NHL, Mary Cain, NOP, me too etc....
There is nothing to see here folks.
Once the dust settles, you'll probably find when DST ordered Chris Dulhanty to sweep the leg he called an audible and went for his signature arm-bar instead.
That's about it plus perhaps not booting Milne out sooner.
That's your bombshell woo hoo wipdeedoo
Dave just fired . Bye Dave . next step for him is fending off legal charges that are pending and moving forward.
