Fun thread that should continue, I believe.
For me, the most famous I ever died trying to keep up with was Carlos Lopes. To most others, though, it would be Frank Shorter.

A three-time Olympian and an Olympic gold medalist, not the same person, but I am not going to go dropping names.
Oh yeah, my high school math teacher was pretty good. Not an Olympian though.
Most famous would be Grete Waitz at Adidas XC summer camp in Pennsylvania in 1983 (my senior year is HS). Jeff Smith was there working out too but pretty much by himself preparing for NYC Marathon (year of his famous 2nd place finish to Rod Dixon).
Jim Dietz. Legendary miler from New York.
Had a decent workout tipping brews down for an hour with Eammon Coghlan at WC 2001 Edmonton.
Does that count?

Small world. Yeah, he is legendary in my book!
Many runners, but Isiah Thomas at PT.
Paul McMullen
Kevin McCarey (Athletics West - 6th 1980 Oly. Trials Mara.) or Herm Atkins (Until very recently fastest African American marathoner)

I had the opportunity to do a few indoor workouts with Marcus O'Sullivan while he was the reigning World Indoor 1500 Champ.
One thing that really stood out about Marcus (besides that he is one of the nicest people that I have ever met) is that he can change gears instantly. One second I was running a stride behind him at sub-4 pace and in the next second he was 5 yards a head of me. All I could think of is 'how many runners have seen him do this to them'?
Dave Wottle and Johnny Gray were the most noteworthy.
Speedy Gonzales
Yared Nuguse
In June 1976 I warmed up for a couple of miles with Frank Shorter. We talked about how his prepping for the upcoming Montreal Summer Games was going. The race was a Quiet Company 10k in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Just a regular guy.
DeCastella, Shorter, Liquori, Bayi
Did a few workouts with Quinton Cassidy and Bruce Denton.

Same. No work ethic though. Quit after just 60 hard 400s and I had finish on my own.

Daniel Komen once joined me for the last couple of 400m reps of a session after he had completed his session when training in Australia. I kicked the last rep down to a 58 from 60's, he went50 point....
