many freshman girl phenoms get slower as they get older. The fact that she has started putting up better times as a junior after not improving time wise as a sophomore seems like a good sign that she can buck the trend and can have more future growth.

She is old for her grade , she’s older than most Seniors in HS. But lots of females have a big change in college.
No, she is an ‘older’ Junior, older than most Juniors (not Seniors) in HS. She has an August birthday. Kids with a Sept/Oct birthday will either be the older kids in their class if held back, or the younger kids in their class if not (and they will turn 18 during their first semester of college.) Probably most kids with an Aug birthday are held back, so they turn 18 at the beginning of their Senior year of high school.

After writing all of that, I realize for Aug birthdays it would be just the opposite of what I said. The Sept/Oct kids have a choice, but Aug kids would typically be advanced, so evidently yes, her parents, for whatever reason, held her back, so she was one of the older kids in her class.

But my original point still stands, in that she is not, as you said, currently at 17yrs, older than most Seniors in high school.
She looks like a college senior. I wonder how much upside she has.
For women it's the opposite of men. She has been through puberty and adapted to the changes in her body. Women who appear prepubescent may have difficulty when their body changes. Men get better when the body changes, many women do not.

Why do you care? Is she taking some opportunity from you? I don't understand why the criticism of her. She's literally one of best HS girls in the country, seems to be working hard and putting it all out there.

Agreed. And Sadie actually counters the trend of the fast young girl who peaks early before development then never improves that is oh so often sited by countless letsrunners again and again in every fast girl thread. she was running 5:32 at 10 years old, 5:08 at 11 and 4:59 at 12. crazy times for sure but they just continued to drop as she got older and as she grew. it was 2021 when she was in 8th grade that most people really started noticing her. many will recall her running 4:40 at RunningLane and blowing everyone's minds losing only to (dare I say it...) Addy Wiley... But she was one of the tallest most mature looking kids in that race filled with high school athletes by that point and still dropping her times. so shes not a classic Grace Ping type. Her improvement has been limited recently (in the mile at least) because of limited competition not because of any developmental issues. I mean all you have to do is look at what she ran at The Ten in the 1500 to know shes capable of much better times even now (like a 4:29 equivalent if I recall). So I think she will continue to improve once she starts running at NC State and continue even further as a pro. this notion that she has peaked isnt proven out at all by any indicators.

The 4:34 for the mile is not that great but she has run 4:09 for the 1500 which is a much better time. Alexa E. ran 4:07 and 4:32 so not sure what that tells us. Her 2:03 800 shows promise.

Even if we claimed she was plateauing at this level, more important is that she is healthy, competing and having fun. The real warning signs are when they disappear injured for 6 months.
The 2:03 and 4:09 in March are very promising, let's see how she runs in June.
In college, a coach would be thrilled if she kept running 2:03/4:09 and contributed to xc.

I understand it's in the context of absolute elite times and comparing her to the top 2-3 girls ever, but saying 4:34 for the mile is bad even though it's a top 5 girls HS time is funny.

I never said her 4:34 for the mile is bad - I said it was inferior to her 1500 time. I would guess her 1500 time is roughly the same as a 4:29 mile. I may be off. Again, her 800 time of 2:03 is really good and shows promise for her. She gets that down to 2:01 and watch out!
Braden Herrera is running for IB Running Club and is no longer running any high school races as he is no longer eligible as per CIF Rules Just looked at his results on direct athletics and he has been improving each meet that he runs.

He’s only a junior now so he has 1 more year.
Senior year - will he be running high school races? Or IB running club?
Braden will be running for IB Running, his times dropped dramatically under this club team. His coach knows what he is doing for sure. Looking forward to senior year.
400 Meters he ran 55 seconds 800 meters he ran 1:55 and his 1500 meters was a 3:58
