I haven't been posting in here for very long, but I don't get the downvotes. How do people get downvoted for just posting their training week or a few words of encouragement? Am I missing something?
Have been injured since early last year, but I'd get the same thing. Just post a week's training and get a downvote.
I wasn't telling anyone else to train the same way, and was getting good results, but someone (or ones) seemingly just disapproved of what I was doing, with no explanation.
The troll made a brief return. He was butthurt that posters here rightfully turned their backs on him, so he tried to get vengeance by down voting those posters. He has since crawled back into his hole.
Turned 65. Went to Folly Beach, SC to race the Charleston Half. Was tripped by a deer in the headlights runner. Strained my left Achilles. Finished. Recommend Folly For a vacation. Recommend throwing the idiot into the Atlantic. M - ice, rest, ice. T - ice, rest, ice.
W - treadmill - 60:00 @ 11:40 pace
Th - ice, rest, ice. F - a solid hour of advanced PT. 6M @10:15 pace on hilly course. 2M tempo @ 9:20 pace. Not my best choice. Sat - 11.25M in heavy rain @ 10:45 pace. At least the janji rain jacket worked. S - treadmill- 61:00 @ 11:20 pace. Enjoy the week.

Get well soon! Hope I'm still as active as you once I reach your age.
Week 7 post-COVID. I increased mileage slightly by adding a mile at about 9:30 pace to my 4 miles of walk 200/ slow run 400 on Monday and Thursday. That extra mile raised my heart rate noticeably on the following day. The prior week I averaged 11:46/mi at HR 135. This past week with the extra miles I averaged 11:56/mi at HR 133 for the week's runs.

Best to most.
^ Guess I was wrong about Igloo crawling back into his hole. ^
60 miles running with a little bit of speed last week. I've been pushing up the miles to try to build a good base for a couple of marathons I'm signed up for, so I have not been doing much speed work. But my miles for the week and month are not too much less than my highest ever. I hardly ran at all the first half of last year because of heart issues. My first marathon back will be just over a year after open heart surgery, so happy to be doing as well as I am.
I didn't post last week because I got banned (!) by the spam filter by posting a link somewhere. I was quickly reinstated, but then I just forgot.
I've done about 60k each of the past 2 weeks. Preparing for an April 10km, I've switched the focus to a bit more shorter/more intense stuff on workout days. Although my December marathon result was around a Daniels Vdot 43, I had been training at Vdot 44 at the beginning of January, but those workout paces were not really challenging enough. I was running Vdot 46 paces instead of Vdot 44s in all of my workouts so I just decided to go with that. I'll train at 46 and bump up to 47 in February and (hopefully) be able to race a 10k at Vdot 48 in April. (42 mins? Maybe? That'll be a stretch...)
I'm not really following a Daniels training plan, but I find those Daniels pace ranges really useful as guideposts.
Despite my fitness gains over the past 8 months, it seems to be falling a part a bit for me after broken ribs and a bad cold.
Have reduced mileage and riding more bike to keep my legs fresh, but struggling with just 1 or 2 track sessions per week.
Nevertheless, will persist with running a few comps in next few 6 weeks, probably limited to 200m and maybe a 400m. I will be shocked if i cannot break 30 seconds for 200m, even at age 62 given in once ran 22.5. But I am prepared for the worst.
Last night quite sore before sessions in the muscles that count, glutes and hammies.
1km warmup and few strides. then ran 33.7 and 34 something for 200m reps with 5 minutes rest. So disgusted, rested 10 minutes and ran 32.2 (freelap system).

Week 8 post-Covid and I ran a little farther, a little faster and at a lower heart rate. I was able to add a continuous mile at about 9:30 pace every other day in the middle of my 4 miles of walk 200/ slow run 400. My averages across the week were11:35/mi at 121HR. I'm hoping that another two weeks of small additions in mileage and I will be back to more normal base training.
sounds as if your recovery is coming along well; nice going.
enjoyable week for me in nice/mild winter weather (roughly 30 in am, 50 in afternoon)
M 45:00
Tu 1:30 with drills/strides
W 1:30 with 20:00 tempo (slightly slower than 7:00/mile)
Th 1:35 double + 1:00 x-t
F 1:15 + 1:00 x-t
Sa 1:10 with parkrun tempo (22:15) + 1:00 x-t
Su 1:55 double
Proud of myself for avoiding info re olympic marathon trials before watching the delayed telecast. When our kids were little I used to videotape Commanders football games in the afternoon and then watch after they went to sleep, and seemingly half the time I would self-spoil by doing something like turning on the car radio just as someone was saying the final score. Getting more skilled at this in my old age.
M - AM spin bike for 45 min (HR about 120); PM 3.5 miles easy
T - AM 6.8 with 4X 1 mile tempo reps/progression, starting out fairly easy on the first one, wasn't awake yet, getting down to 6:30 on the last one; PM 4.1, sort of hilly
W - 9.3 easy
Th - easy double, both about 4.6 miles--did a few strides in the afternoon run.
F - AM 6.3 miles with 4X 1/2 mile reps, going from 3:08 to 3:03 (short recovery), then 2X 600 faster with longer recovery; PM 4.1 easy
Sa - 8.2 on the treadmill (snowing again, third weekend in a row with a fairly big snowfall)
Su - 2 hr xc ski, haven't been able to get out as much this year
9.9 hrs on the week.
I did run XC nats in VA last month, it didn't go very well. I was coming off a cold and just wasn't breathing well in the chilly air. Conditions weren't great, but the course was in good shape. Ended up running altitude threshold pace at sea level. Had a great time watching the open races, with those vying for Team USA.
happy Super Sunday to all! I'm in a good spot, as I like both teams pretty well, so just hoping for an entertaining game
good week for me culminating in first all-out race of 2024:
M 1:00
Tu 1:05
W 3:00 with 2 X 20 mins at marathon pace (7:16/mile on parts with known distance)
Th 1:15
F 2:00 double
Sa 45:00 + 1:00 x-t
Su 1:20 incl. very hilly 10k in 42:26 (27th OA, 1st AG)
Hadn't run this race before. It had "hills" in the title, so I should have known what to expect, but was still taken aback -- just seemed to keep going up, though with start/finish in same place I suppose it was a lot of down as well. Ran evenly -- I remember 20:33 at mile 3 (6:51/mile), and finish time is apparently 6:50/mile

That kind of surgery usually takes massive rehab...but most Americans are sedentary and you obviously aren't and got there faster. Well done! Good luck in your marathon.
Week 9 post-Covid and I am very close to back to full health. I was able to add a continuous mile at about 9:30 pace every day in both the middle and at the end of my 4 miles of walk 200/ slow run 400, so I was doing a little over 6 miles total every day. My heart rate was back to normal range for the effort level. Total run/walk time varied between 70 and 78 minutes and averaged 74 minutes. My current training goal is to do another week or two averaging 75 minutes/day, and then move up to 90 minutes/day. When 90 min/day feels comfortable, then I'll start building in some higher intensity interval work.
