Hi Coach Jeff ROC -- I chuckled to see you put "raced" in quotes. I know what you are talking about. When getting back into shape, I don't really "race" my first couple races. I sort of push but don't necessarily THROW IT DOWN. I've recognized over time, it is part of getting the mojo back. By the 3rd or 4th race, the miler mind of my youth returns and I'm going at it like I'm "killing snakes."
am, sorry to hear about the setbacks. The frustration is tough to swallow. Quick question, is Magnesium Glycinate in your mix? We all have our things that help battle setbacks, and that is one thing (of many!) that helped me through 2.5 years of achilles and plantar problems in recent times. Good luck going forward, you got a lot of friends pulling for you here.
Over here, I can report the past two weeks of 31, then 26 miles. Part of my slow build towards a March marathon.
This past week, family obligations impacted my running. Happily, I got in a 10.3 mile run with a negative split in the mix.
I did run in my club's "Last 10K" on Saturday. I've run the course 4 times in the past, and it's fairly fast. But on the starting line, our race director announces "We changed the course." Miles 3 and 4 were undulating hills! This drew sighs and laughs from the field.
I went out easy and attacked in the middle mile, passing a few. Mile 5 was my fastest and hung on for 6. Came away with a 48:07 effort, historically slow for me, but faster than my 50:22 of two weeks back on a much easier course, so I'll take it
Have a great Christmas and/or whichever holiday. My mixed family celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas, so I get even more days to avoid ruining my run with too much sugar, booze and what have you!
