10.01 with +1.8 m/s in the semi, tying his best, but 10.10 with -.3 in the final, which COULD have been sub 10 with the same wind as the semi. He should get this with guys to chase.

For whatever reason Japanese sprinters tend to underperform when they competing away from home. Although I do hope he breaks the 10 second barrier in a big international meet when he competes with top level sprinters.

Flo'da boy.... Haven't seen you posting in a while! Welcome back!
Thanks! haha
I've been posting in odd places just haven't been updating the big threads, but I felt like this deserves it.
I'm also glad he's back at it. If he doesn't get injured he should be sub 10 in Rio...though I know Japanese runners sometimes have trouble internationally. But he always performs decently at world indoors so that gives me hope!
I still think his best run is the 9.87 even though it was with a hurricane at his back. If he hadn't gotten injured that year I really think he could have run low 9.9s with legal wind

Kiryu does it!
9.98 at Japanese University Champs

9"98 (+1.8) so basically he ran at the level of his PB :10"01 (0.9) but had a nice tailwind.
It's too bad because he is very irregular.
I don't think that he has run under 10"20 legally more than a couple of times outside of Japan.
He literally never manages to pass the 1st round in international competitions (unlike other Japanese sprinter who often reach the semis) despite his multiple 10"0x early in the season .
It seems that even the Japanese selectors do not trust his ability either since they decided to not select him for the world champs this year despite the fact that he had the best time domestically and was fit .
The reason is that he only finished 4th at the Japanese trials, but only the first 2 are automatically picked, the 3rd one is alaways a discretionary pick.
Let see if it will change
