I want Cole Hocker to have my babies!!!!!!
Certainly not strategists race; just Line Up and Man Up !!
Very Happy for Hocker. He deserves it. Runs his tail off all the time. Always had the wheels. Trick is staying close, and this time he did just that. I'm sure it was not easy.
Not a fan of the Ingebrigsten strategy of going from the gun but he gave it a good shot. As I posted a few days back, better to stay close for 700m and let it rip from there.
Today, the best guy won.
Big upset but not even the biggest upset of the day.
The biggest upset of the entire Olympics happened this morning when the best wrestler man or woman in the world Yui Susaki got beat in the first round. Crazy.
More then anything, this was a victory for the USA's often disrespected running culture. Obviously Hocker, a born and bred oregonian is American, but if you count Kerr (which you should-he received most of his serious running instruction there), and ignore Ingebrigsten (which you also should-he's a trash talking jerk and probably doped), athletes from the USA made up the entire top 5. Add Grant Fisher's amazing effort, and factor in Noah Lyles' almost certain domination in the coming days, I think it's fair to say that the LA 2028 Olympics will be an absolute medal-fest for the US-of-A
Interesting that Cheruiyot and Komen were so aggressive on that first lap and probably both split around 55. Jakob went again 700 out and they were aggressive. They both ended at the back of the pack. In the 1500, its a very fine line how fast you can open and how aggressive you can be 700 m out. The Americans and Kerr held back just slightly
All love and appreciation for Cole winning the gold, he earned it, but you think if Cole doesn't break Yareds stride on the back stretch Yared takes the gold?
Came here to post just this... When Cole moves to pass Nuguse and Tim Nuguse also makes the move... but Cole is just on his shoulder and Cole doesn't shift over for Nuguse... so Nuguse has to wait for Cole to pass, then he can pass Tim as well. That might have cost Nuguse the gold, but almost certainly the silver. Cole got lucky the inside opened up, Nuguse was in a much better spot. If the inside doesn't open, Cole is 3rd at best, and Nuguse is out leaned for gold by Kerr.
Hocker wasn't born and bred in Oregon - Born in Indiana and went to HS there.
Just a beautiful race. Absolutely spectacular. What an incredible feat for US distance running. Big ups to Kessler and Neguse too. Cole Hocker, Olympic Champion, that's 2 US 1500 champions in 3 olympics.
I think we also should appreciate that run from Jakob. I think he screwed up his tactics ever so slightly and paid for it, but he also set up the greatest 1500m final I've ever seen.
He needed to press from the gun, I think he ran his splits in the wrong order. He went 54.8, 56.5, 55.8 (2:47) for the first 1200. He allowed the kickers to gather themselves a little for the final 300. If he runs 56.3, 55.6, 54.8 (2:46) maybe the outcome is different. Such fine margins in the modern 1500 it's amazing.
Uhh, Cole Hocker runs a 3 second PB to win gold and you’re accusing the guy he beat of being on PEDs? if this is a natural progression I expect him to run 3:24 within 2 years.
I’m not a big Jakob fan, but I respect his run today. He went for it from the gun, which is nearly impossible in a championship race, especially with the depth of the field.
I watched it on my phone at work and just watched it again with my wife. Absolutely pumped for Hocker.
39.6/13.0 to run 3:27.65
All the anticipation of this race was worth it!!! Big congratulations to Hocker for winning in a very fast difficult race. Awesome race.
The men have taken back The Show this year.
Alsorans run 3:27/53 now?

My dreams have become reality. Time to quit the website
Risky strategy on the part of Jakob. I get wanting to control pace and take the legs out from faster people but splitting 1:51 at the 800 was too hot for him to handle. Really hubris on his part. He was cooked at the 1300 mark and when he turned his head then to look where people where you knew he wasn’t winning. He looked spent with 150 left to go. Hocker and Nuguse laid off that hot pace and essentially had rabbits in front of them to key off of. A lot of Olympic 1500s have been won this way. Kerr also cooked himself staying too close to the hot pace, as did the Kenyans. Not rocket science. You split the first half of the 1500 that hard, you better know you are fitter than all the rest. Otherwise, the kickers will run you down. Fantastic performances from Hocker and Nuguse. And here we were all along enamored with the Jakob-Josh “rivalry.” How about American dominance of the event instead? Aren’t the Olympics great?
Mondo competes for Sweden instead of USA. Brilliant move or cheap copout!
Kerr only lost to Hocker because Jakob cut Kerr off in the final 100m...
JAKOB INTERVIEW : He said he felt so good that he misjudged his own opening
