If Nuguse ran the same time (3:30.86) but Cole didn’t go by him, consensus would be that a medal would be Nuguse’s to lose, given how crazy it is to front run a 3:30 at the trials. Cole is insanely fit but in the high 3:20s race that will be the Olympics, Nuguse is just as well positioned to medal.
You mean indoors, where nobody competes in. Ok man.
No I don't. I was correcting you because your post was plainly wrong. And of course it doesn't attract the same depth of talent, but the indoor finals had several runners from the 2023 outdoor 1500m finals, including a medalist. You're trying too hard.
Yeah, the reality is that for the gold Goose doesn't have the closing speed and Cole doesn't have the endurance. Both are definite medal contenders but I can't see them beating all of Jakob, Josh and Jake.
3:30.59 is outstanding but the Oly final will likely be at least 1.5 seconds faster.
I like them both over Wightman this year.
I have it as (championship setting), roughly
1. Kerr 2. Jakob 3. Hocker 4. Nuguse 5. Gourley 6. Tim Cheruiyot 7. R. Cheruiyot 8. Wightman 9. Kessler 10. Habz 11. Miller 12. Munguti
Green is 21 and just ran 3:32.2 with a 53.7 close. Not enough today but he will factor in the next few years.
Green ran with heart. 6 guys under the Olympic standard incredible. Really wanted to see Wynne or Engels with a Cinderella story. I’m sorry the 5k-10k US depth isn’t touching the 1500m right now.
Westerners have really adapted well to the double threshold training and it seems to have the highest impact on the 1,500/3,000. Super shoes have helped, sure, but I think new levels of training have been unlocked.

Wow Annie Rodenfels is really bad at the barriers. She’s run pretty good track times outside steeplechase, but practically slowed to a walk at each barrier in the second half of the race.
