What is it with Carleton and Olaf making solid distance runners subpar decathletes? Anderson would definitely help their team in the Fall if he focused on running.
Johnnies, have you started digging out yet. Will you have the snow cleared for the meet Thursday?
Looks like great weather for Hamline. Hope to see some big marks. Should be a big meet. Wonder if they’ll move some distance events to Friday evening? Can’t wait to get outdoor started!
He should have a good battle with Hanley from Carleton.
The 800 should be fun with Tucker, Boone, Meier, and a bunch of Carls doubling back. Too bad Lelinga is running the 1500m instead! Poor Lars has to run the 5000 all by himself.
It's good to see so many MIAC schools going head to head and not ducking competition or bragging about going to high profile meets to run slow times.
The Gusties and Oles have some ambitious seeds even with the Mile to 1500m conversion. I hope the Gusties don't have to tempo their 1500m. Based on how the Oles raced last week, they may want to take the week to train.
Call me crazy, but I think that the Cobbers will have the best steeple group in the conference. They won't have the top steepler, but I don't think anyone else can match their top four of Goss, Olsen, Groshelle, and Nowacki. All four will be well under 10. I don't think the Oles have a fourth to match, so the Cobbers will likely be ranked higher nationally. That makes sense since their coach was such a good steepler.
Maybe the Johnies will transition some of their freshmen. Carleton also needs a fourth to enter the conversation.
Every team brags about Event Squad Rankings on social media. I think the potential emergence of the Cobbers is exciting for a team that hasn't had tons of distance success since Munir graduated. See, I can be positive!
I’m really excited to see how you turn 4 Oles running 3:56 into a bad thing
Decent effort by the Oles. Are we sure Luther track is a full 400? Would have expected to see a bit faster from Turlington after his indoor season. Good to see Coffey returning from his Indoor suspension.
Looks like I was right about Goss. Fastest steeple debut in recent MIAC history, maybe ever. He has a few things to figure out, but he can certainly be a top 3 guy.
I was also very impressed watching Lars negative split his 5000m. Looked like tempo work and he was solo after two miles. Looked like he had a big workout after.
A very solid double from Gabe and Lyness. The 800 not getting out fast certainly helped that. Drew Getty throws his in name into the 800 mix.
Brauer debuting at 3:58 should be comforting to the Gustie faithful. I think that was a PR for Smith too.
What's the plan for this week? Anyone traveling to big races?
The guy ran a 9:25 3200 and 42 second 300 hurdle as a senior. His high school coach must have been thinking steeple the whole time.
Looking at splits he has room to run much faster. The real question is whether he’ll run faster than the 9:19 Wilkinson ran as a freshman.
His emergence makes things interesting, but he has a long way to go to be top three in the MIAC. Kelly & Grove ran sub 9 last year. Cote was 9:07. McKee almost PR’ed after falling in his season opener. He will flirt with 9:10. So a 4th place finish would be noteworthy for the superbly talented freshman. Even fifth would be great.
Last year it took 9:36 to score. Could it take 9:25 to score? It doesn’t seem a reach to think Deaver, Thompson, and someone else could reach there by May.
Joel Smith drops his massive nuts all over the rest of the conference nation. Runs a 51.3 in some heavy winds, not far off his PR from outdoor nationals last year, and two thirds of a second ahead of second nationally. No doubt he will be the national champion this year, (possibly twice): if he gets mixed back into their 4x4, along with Parent, (Grant) Nelson, and one of the three of Lelinga, Sampson, or Thomsen, the Royals have a very real possibility to send LAX, John Carroll, and Mount Union home from Myrtle with less than they had at Indoors. Not to mention Bethel has two separate 4x4's in the top 10, run on the same day, with guys that had already run some wild times earlier that day.
Parent and Nelson go 1 and 3 in the country, Parent at 46.71, only .13 off the MIAC record, while Nelson came through at 47.20 Watching the livestream, Nelson looked as though he could have taken it, but his blocks slipped at the start. Meanwhile, timing out on the livestream from the start to the 200 split, Parent (with wind) goes 21.03, a .12 improvement over Kevin Arthur's 21.15 for an open 200. Wild. Rudzitis and Ketterling also break 50, showing the Royals have depth for years to come as freshmen.
Lastly, after a disappointing outdoor debut in the 1500m, Lelinga comes roaring back in the 4x4 splitting a 48 low, reminiscent of his 800 at last chance. Perhaps Rock should start converting him down to the lower distances, who knows? By the time his eligibility is up, 1:49.5 could be in danger.
Big night in Platteville. Great close by Mckee to win his heat in 14:42, and a big PR of 14:38 for David Lynn. Skemp, Edwards, and Manzur Strandlund also break 15. MIAC 5k just got a lot more interesting.
