But was he DQ'd for the swing out explicitly or the flailing at the tail end? You'd think it would be a DQ under rule 7-5 3.b or 3.c not 3a if it were the swing out.
This is where the problem lies: they’re citing a rule that points to DQing him for the flailing, not the veering (which is what it should be for). If you’re going to use 7.5-3a here then it absolutely applied in the men’s mile. The inconsistency is an issue.
Agreed. I am not arguing one way or another if there should or shouldn't be a DQ. I just am trying to understand the rules and why they seem to never be applied consistently- even within the same meet.
It's one thing across various meets with different officials having different opinions, but within the same meet it really frustrates me.

Being tired is absolutely no reason for your hand not being able to grip a freaking baton!! You’re hilarious
This might be crazy, but it’s almost like you also have to think about when and how to grab it. Cognitive reaction times decrease when you’re tired. It’s not just about grip strength lmao
Oh please. It’s not a blind pass. Everyone is tired. You had one job to do! Get the freaking baton in your hand!!!
Wild how a day can change things - Jacobs looked unreal last night in the 5k, significantly better than the field, yet barely was even in contention today in the 3k. Tough double

Unreal? I don't know about that. He had a good day. He's not way better than the rest of the NCAA like some 5k champs have been. He just had the best day. He looked human in the 3k as was expected. Still I'm shocked Bosley managed to find another person to lose to lol
