Vaccine protection is waning among fully vaccinated Persons
Jeez like how many vaccines am I gonna need for something that doesn't harm me
It's ridiculous
Agree. I think even the most fervent vaxxers like 2600 bro are starting to have doubts about the vax.
I wonder if moderates like the BroJos will get the third jab?
Canada has advanced purchased boosters until 2024 so they plan on doing this for a while. Buckle up.
“the absence of the kind of far right political force that fueled anti-vaccine movements in other countries and a strong sense of community..”
Practically no one had an issue with 2 weeks to stop the spread. We were told we needed to flatten the curve. Here's a thought experiment for you? What if they had said 2 years to stop the spread. No one would have listened.
Covid is NEVER going away. Over time fewer and fewer will get sick and fewer of those people will be hospitalized or die. But the number will never approach zero. What is a rational response is to evaluate risk and be willing to accept reasonable risk. You accept a reasonable risk every time you take a ride in a car.
For example, the risk to school children of having bad outcomes due to Covid is extremely low (but not zero). Is having school operate in normal fashion a reasonable risk? I think if people were evaluating the true risk of Covid compared to the harms of school closings or drastically changing how school operates, they would accept the reasonable risk in my opinion. In the past only in very rare occasions have schools been shut down for flu outbreaks. By the standards of how we've approached Covid, schools would be shut down for every flu season that was worse than normal.

There is zero evidence immunity against severe disease is waning. I’ve discussed the prospects for boosters many times.
Delta is more transmissible. That, in part, explains some of the “waning” already most likely. Circulating antibodies wane. That’s biology. Memory B and T cells do a good job preventing serious illness.
Open a textbook and stop fearmongering like a midwit. Cheers.

Is Delta less or more lethal than the original? (I keep hearing conflicting opinions on this).
Secondly, isn't hard to vaccinate against a coronavirus anyway? If it ends up that you need two boosters per year to vaccinate against Covid, people aren't going to put up with that. Heck, you can't even get people to commit to the 2nd dose of the vaccine. Lol.
Thirdly, what if Covid mutates to a variant that is completely resistant to any of the mRNA technology vaccines...then what? (I have a theory that Covid was bioengineered in a lab to eventually become resistant to any vaccine). Under this scenario, it would be natural immunity that would save the day...and this nation. But there would probably be a lot of causalities along the way - unless people start getting their act together by losing weight, eating better, excercising, increasing their D3 levels, etc. It's this damn obesity problem is why Covid has been so devastating to this country!

I suspect thinking of it in terms of lethality is wrong (now). There's a lot of people vaccinated that mitigate it, so it's impossible to compare with general stats. If no one was vaccinated, then I think it's increase of viral load makes it more spreadable, so more people and depending on the persons ability to cope with that load, potentially more deadly (so I suspect it would depend on demographics then).
People (at least some, like the flu jab) would put up with one or two jabs a year. I suspect it will end up being a seasonal thing to try and prevent hospitals being overloaded in winter. It's just a case of evolving to that point, where enough have been initially vaccinated (to prevent ICU cases), it becomes a smoother ride with it.
I suspect if it mutates to a point vaccines (or any type) don't work, then I suspect your body won't cope either, but I may be wrong. If it gets to that state, then I would assume it would be pretty much back to day 1, possibly even more severe restrictions (assuming the body defence system can't cope as well as currently, as I'm assuming if it mutated to that level, the body would struggle).
Why do you think the nation would save the day...what exactly is it going to do to save it ?
I agree with the obesity thing, imagine how many covid and non-covid lives could be saved if we spent even a portion of the money we've hit the economy with and dealing with covid, tackling obesity. I don't think the U.S (and others) is interested though. It's too important for people to have freedom to kill themselves in a variety of ways.

This is the dumbest post I've ever read. The virus is transmissible! Do you want it to be passed on to others?

"Most likely beneficial for society as a whole"?
Did you not read the evidence posted earlier in this thread? That 20% of cancer diagnoses have gone undetected due to priority given to covid patients. Considering cancer has a higher mortality rate than covid, the most beneficial thing in society would be to help cancer patients, as it would help a greater amount of people. Cancer is more of a threat than covid is.
"So to conclude, none of us really care that much"
If its not a big deal to you, then it shouldnt be a big deal that I dont get a vaccine.
Moronic:
1) Cancer is (almost always) not contagious. (Yeah, HPV may be an exception -- but there's a vaccine!)
2) That figure is highly suspect and does not translate into a 20% increase in death or anything of the sort. Cancer deaths have not risen over the pandemic. Pretending that we are going to see a massive wave of cancer deaths soon needs a lot more supporting evidence.
3) Again, confusing the risks of cancer and a -contagious- virus displays an astoundingly poor grasp of nonlinear functions.
Moronic:
1) Cancer deaths ARE rising because of the COVID-related measures YOU have defended and encouraged.
2)I mentioned those statistics. 20% increase in death, according to official sources where I live. We are starting to see a wave (if you ever deal with cancer patients you wouldn't ever use the word "massive") of cancer deaths already. You are a self-proclaimed genius so go and find the evidence. It's available online.
3)Again, pretending that COVID deaths are more meaningful or that treating/vaccinating for COVID is more important because it is contagious and cancer is not, is a dishonest argument. But you are a dishonest idiot so we are used to that.

Provide evidence please. Cancer deaths have not increased in the USA at large. A link would be nice.
If you can't produce evidence I'll assume you're making it up because you're Mad about the vaccines working or whatever the cause du jour of the denier-fearmongers is these days.
There are 650k excess deaths, almost all caused by COVID! It's a public health emergency. To be charitable your madposting: nobody is ignoring cancer deaths. If hospitals are too busy and/or understaffed with COVID cases to carry out effective cancer treatment (please provide evidence), that is a direct result of COVID! You should be LIVID that we allowed COVID to have such an impact, instead of ... uh... blaming doctors for caring for dying COVID patients?
Not a good look!

As for sick fantasy, you are the one laughing at unvaccinated people who die of COVID while ignoring the hundreds of thousands all over the world dying because of the likes of you.
But I am fine with it. Life will punch you in the face pretty soon like you deserve.

A few thoughts
1) Yes, it's not really clear if Delta is more lethal, there are too many other moving pieces. Noisy data generally indicates it can't be -that- much more lethal.
2) It has been hard to vaccinated against coronaviruses, but we have gotten better! The stabilized spike protein is an outstanding epitope and, as you see, the vaccines are working very well!
3) There is no biochemical mechanism by which you could engineer a virus to be more likely to mutate away from vaccines without it being obvious in the genome sequence. Normal antigenic drift is happening, protecting against severe disease -and even mild disease- remains good!
4) There's not really any real-world examples of complete immune escape by a circulating virus. I.e. we design a vaccine against a specific strain and that strain mutates to avoid it. I think it's sort of happened with Hep B, but not completely? The immune system is good! I think we should try to mitigate cases to avoid the possibility because that would be catastrophic, but I am quite optimisitic.
That is to say, I really don't think we will need boosters for a large majority of the population. Unless people demand high antibody levels to prevent even minor disease with high efficacy.
"maybe" has a great point that there is often a tradeoff between immune escape and infectivity, especially because the spike protein is the KEY protein for viral entry. A very wise choice for immunization informed by decades of research.
5) Natural immunity did not save the day before the vaccines and would not given vaccine failure. 500k+Americans died and countless more were debilitated for days/weeks. Considering that infection-driven immunity shows roughly the same protection as vaccines, I would worry about reinfection of prior infected people should the vaccines totally fail.

What is so hard about providing evidence for the claims you have made? US cancer deaths have not changed.
This basically proves you're making it up because you could really score a point here, but refuse to do so. You'd rather just madpost.
And yeah, no real response to my post about how, most likely, an increase in cancer deaths would be a result of COVID being, you know, bad...
sigh...

In Israel, vaccinated individuals had 27 times higher risk of symptomatic COVID infection compared to those with natural immunity from prior COVID disease [95%CI:13-57, adjusted for time of vaccine/disease]. No COVID deaths in either group.

Yes, the vaccine works. As does immunity from infection. Get your vaccine. If you've had COVID, the study shows that one dose of vaccine given even better immunity.
It's ironic that this study that anti-vaxxers are trumpeting (for unclear reasons), might end up being a key piece in making authorities mandate a single dose for recovered people to be considered "immune."
