what's your take on nike katana s?
trackhead,
what's your take on nike katana s?
Less shoe is better (as long as it works), the Katana is a fine step, I haven't held it in my hand but I bet it's not that different from the Streak.
ok thanks
bump...
im going to go for my hour run in flats(brooks t3s)...first time ever.
has any1 besides the previous posters used their flats for hour+ runs?
Haven't gone through all 11 pages but there did read several. What are people using these days? Most models are no longer produced. You can still get your hands on the mayfly if you're lucky, likewise with the newer vaporfly. The brooks T4 racer is another one which looks interesting. Anyone with any experience?
Like some others here, I used to use motion control shoes because I overpronate. Then moved (progressively lighter) to asics 1110's, asics tri forsters and asics ds racers. I still train in both the 1110's and tri forsters but reserve the ds racers for racing. I've done a hilly 10 miler and a hilly 8 mile duathlon loop that you run, cycle 3 times, then run again. Majority of my training is speed work on pavement, although I try to do a good portion of my weekly (or less often) long run offroad. Less problems with injuries now than I did with motion control shoes, although it could just be because I've now got some decent miles in my legs.

And most current models won't be around a few years from now. That's been, sadly, the way the shoe cos have operated for years now.
There's plenty of harder-core minimalists here, but I do fit the subject pretty well - most of my training is in flats. My skimpiest are Nike's Streak XC, and at just an ounce beefier, Fila's Corsa Sette is one of my faves.
I think training in flats is a great idea. The science behind it seems very clear and makes sense. I currently do 3-5 runs a week in the Nike Zoom Marathoners, I havn't had any problems so far. When training in flats you can actually feel the surface you are running on.

The Kantana Racer is Nike's take on the Asics DS-Racer, similar sole and weight, just a smidgen closer to a spike in its fit. The Streak XC is a tiny bit lighter, less structured and cushioned--even more minimal, you might say. Both are great shoes.
I'm rotating between the Puma H Streets and the Puma Cortlandt XCs, which I have really liked (better grip) for both off-road and road running. Having tried the Cortlandt's, I'm willing to bet any cross country flat is worth considering-- better flexibility and closer to the ground (as compared to traditional road flats).
Can I just check you guys train and race on the road in xc shoes??
The Fila Corsa Sette is absolutely my favorite racing flat in over 20 years. If you get the chance, try a pair on and just walk around the store for a little while. For me, it was fantastic.
it's all about the Adizero RC. I rotate those with Mizuno Idaten, which is low but not super-light, and NB950s, which suck and I would never buy, but I got free. 70-80 mpw with 18-22 mile long runs.
Yeah the Adizero RC is one I keep coming back to - I finished yesterday's run in my NB 205s - no complaints - saw the RCs sitting in the garage - slipped them on and they felt like slippers - especially having just spent an hour in the 205s. The 950s I had way back when they first came out - like most of the NB flats, they run narrow across the forefoot. I've tried to make NB work - they seem like an unpretentious comp., I like that. The RC 205 is their best flat to date - and the cheapest.

Agreed. The Katana Racer II outsole even wears out just as fast as the DS-Racer. I've got to Shoe-Goo them from day one or they're done way too fast.
It's definitely nothing like the streak though except in the fact that it's light

Before the snow storms hit, I had just started running in the Asics Tai Chi, a martial art shoe with no cushioning. I love them, my feet are wide and they fit like a glove. Just a thin piece of rubber with herringbone traction.

Many of my cirrent injury problems can be traced back to training in flats during the '70-80's. Cushioning is not a bad thing.
Or maybe it is because you are fat. Fatty.
I remember the old original NIKE and Onitsuka Tiger racing flats: blue with white stripes, that we did almost all our racing AND training in, unless we were racing in spikes.
I miss those old models. The newer shoes are like running in ski boots.
Other than hamstring pulls, spraining an ankle on a run in the woods or crashing into something we almost never got hurt.
Odd, that.
the new balance rxterrain (which doesn't seem to be available in North America) looks to be pretty ideal for a minimalist trainer and a nice change from the terrible traction of road flats on muddy trails. Anyone know anything about this shoe? Will it be made available in America?
scroll to #4:
I was running in the Fila Racer 6 which was the best shoe for me (7.9oz, 9mm drop)until they discontinued it. Went to the Adizero RC (7.1 oz, 8mm drop)and they felt even more comfortable. When I switched from the greenish pair to the new white ones with more heel support I developed a calcaneal stress fracture. I love the shoes but am afraid to go back to them. There is another Adizero called the
CS (7.1 oz, ??drop) which seem a little more beefy, but very comfortable. Anyone try those?
