Entertainment????? WTF!!!!
I've never heard of ANY professional runner say "The reason I run is to entertain people". Entertaining people is a byproduct of running FAST and WINNING. People aren't "Entertained" by the guy who is DFL, and safe to say the guy who is DFL isn't trying to entertain you by being DFL. It's a pure unadulterated competition that requires a lot of self-sacrifices and hard work. To set a goal, make a plan, execute the plan, and seek a result. In the process of doing so, you're forced to push yourself outside of your perceived "Comfort Zone" and achieve something that you previously thought you couldn't. This just so happens to be how "Life" works outside running. World -Class runners don't run to entertain.......They run to see how fast and far they can push themselves and hopefully win some races while doing so.
Wake Up Bro!!!
"Go Run One"
Professional running is supposed to be a sport. It's not racing greyhounds. Or something to place bets on.
The athletes are supposed to entertain the crowds, else there is no need for the sport to exist in a professional sense. Nobody is saying you can't run around by yourself. I'm saying if you want to get PAID to do so then your value is in entertainment. Same with football basketball etc.
Ever heard of Usain Bolt? Pure entertainment, huge value for the crowds, meet organisers and sponsors.
The sport makes money by selling tickets, and selling TV rights. If it is not entertaining nobody will watch it and athletics dies.
Part of entertaining the fans is engaging on social media, pre and post race interviews, showing emotion etc.
If you don't agree you are part of the problem. This Rob Brandt guy or whoever is a HUGE part of the problem. Someone who wants to become a professional but do so quietly like it's some kind of path to Nirvana, that he's so special people will pay attention and worship him just because we want to revel in his own personal achievements. Well news flash; nobody will give a f*ck and he won't get a penny from running. Plus the sport just dies a bit more.
