holy cow. how is Dan Howitt still so butt hurt about this stuff?
did Kilian cheat? probably, but nothing he does matters until he runs a flat, fast marathon and gets tested afterwards.

This is fascinating. Has Kilian ever publicly responded to any of the accusations?

Kipchoge at least covered the actual distance in the time he claimed. Jornet did neither.
In the article linked by the author of this thread, it is stated that "Suunto batteries last for many years."
The watch needs to be recharged periodically.

Even if you don't get tired of obsessing about Jornet, I certainly have grown tired of reading your threads about him. Let it go
Then why are you reading the threads? I have a very simple solution for you: DON'T CLICK ON THE LINKS AND DON'T READ THE THREADS.
First world problem solved; you're welcome.

I still don’t understand the bigger picture , if there is one. I hate cheaters, but (at the risk of minimizing the incident) he’s done lots of legit races, right?
This one incident, I take it, was a failure & he couldn't admit he failed, so he crossed the line? I assume he cheated for the sake of either a specific incentive, or his general superman rep, or his sponsorship?
Kilian Jornet's fraud scheme for both of his Everest climbs [May 22 May 27 of 2017] is unprecedented. He deceived 10's of millions of people about human accomplishment. He has profited from his fraud via a movie-product sold at his website. He was on 10+ television shows about his Everest climbs. He received 100+ media articles world-wide and still does almost weekly in December 2019. He used the public's trust in him to deceive them. He used the climber's honor code ("a climber's word is taken as the truth") to lie. An atrocious man of poor character. I feel bad for his wife Emelie Forsberg and their baby daughter Maj. He must lie as a way of life, daily.
He's Spanish. What do you expect? Only thing worse is a Somalian when it comes to lying.

Amazing! Post of the decade. 100% bang fuckin on
Most interesting part of Outside article (possible smoking gun) was the record claim, but withholding evidence and claiming it was “in the movie.”
When the movie came out, no one seemed persuaded by anything in it.

"Thousands of millions?" You mean billions? If EK and Nike "deceived" billions then KJ deceived even more.
KJ got way more press. And if I had to guess I would say that KJ made more money from his (fraudulent, uncompleted) event than EK made from his (transparent, completed, and admittedly assisted) event.
EK is masterclass.
KJ is a rich and successful cheater.

Two questions.
1) Did he 100% cheat on purpose? When we were exploring the ultra scene thanks to Hoka's sponsorship, I talked to a guy about Jornet and Everest and it didn't seem to bother him. It certainly bothers me. But the question I have is it possible he thinks he scaled it but was confused because of visibility or brain fogginess?
2) I also was shocked when learning about ultras that several people in the ultra world seemed to think Jornet was on PEDs. How widespread is that belief? Why do people think that?

In Britain they often use "thousand million" to distinguish it from the old definition of "billion", which was a million million in British English. Old British textbooks I used always said "thousand million".

Bottom line, the death zone can kill good athletes or the unprepared or the overconfident. I’m leaning toward “he can’t admit failure.”

Thank you for the lesson.
My primary contention stands: Killian Jornet and Eliud Kipchoge are not comparable especially in terms of (purported) fraud.

1.) He knows what he did. Why would he try go up a second time if the first time was a success? Why is he still trying to climb Everest However, I feel like his continued attempts to climb mean that at some level he actually does care and wants to have an ascent that is unquestionably legitimate.
2.) I’ve heard people say this too, and I get why. But aren’t there just some people who are generic outliers when it comes to aerobic capacity? His VO2max is insanely high. I don’t know how other ultra-runners, like Sage, who have a “normal” VO2max have any chance against a guy like that. 92 is just not normal.

Of course he has. He basically said he knows he reached the summit both times and others can either believe it or not. The problem was the malfuntioning of his watch to accurately record elevation. Since sunto is one of his main sponsors, he isn't going to throw them under the bus.
He posted his trips on strava for all to see and never took them down. If he had anything to hide, those would have been gone immediately.
I personally don't care either way but following him for 10 years, I don't see any reason he would have for cheating. While he has been unbelievably successful, he has also been beaten a few times and never once tried to make people believe he did something he didn't.
The old “I’m too poor & dependent on my sponsors to tell the truth” excuse!
Love it!

His Everest summit is still on Strava. Go look it up. May 20, 2017 is the date it gives. It has been up for over 2.5 years. Why wouldn't he take it down if he didn't think he reached the summit?
Every other cheat scrubs their social media immediately when called out. Not the case here.
So he’s telling the truth about Strava, but lying about Suunto, got it.
