So you had to go back 7-years to find an instance when we missed something and left a racist post up for days? Not exactly making a strong point.
Soprano, you are making my point for me.
MANY POSTERS: You need to do better at moderation.
MOD: No, were are great at moderation. Just hit the report button.
POSTER 1: That doesn't always work. Sometimes racist and sexist post aren't taken down.
MOD: No, they are always taken down.
POSTER 2: Here is an example of a post with the N-word not taken taken for three weeks.
MOD: That post is old. Doesn't count.
Your response is remarkable, but no surprise. Rather than saying "Wow, a post with the N-word was up for three weeks! I'm sorry that was on our website," you choose to get defensive and say oh, the post was old, nothing to see here.
Think a bit. Do you think that I screenshot every single post on Letsrun that I don't like? No. I took a screenshot of this one because (1) it had the N-word, and (2) it was left up for three weeks in spite of repeated reports. I shared that one because it was particularly disgusting up for particularly long time. Do you think that because this one was from 2012 there have been no racist posts left up since? What an absurd conclusion.
Tell me:
- Do you understand that, in a thread about the poor climate on the board, your response completely reflects your own problem? (With a response like that, I can see why O'Connor posted on Instagram rather than trying to take it up with you.)
- Do you understand how, seeing racist and sexist posts stand for days and weeks, with some still standing today, people don't exactly buy that "report the post" is going to solve your problems?
People here are posting constructively, and you are getting adopting a defensive stance, outright denial, even. You could admit that moderation in its current state hasn't done the job, and you could do something about it. Or you can nitpick the examples and stick your head in the sand. Posters on this thread show little belief you are really serious about improving things, and so far you are proving them right.
You need to get female moderators. You need moderators with actual experience of the sexism you are saying you want off the boards. The same goes for moderating the racist posts.
Sexism and racism are longtime problems on these boards, but have you ever made a post seeking women to moderate? Runners from various cultural backgrounds?
