Carbon fiber plates save energy by decreasing the amount of toe bending, but the problem is that the extra work is transferred to the ankle. The curved plate was Nike's answer to this problem, and as a previous poster said, Nike has a patent on this design. More importantly, the Grand Valley State study showed that the Zoom X foam saved 45X more energy than the carbon fiber plate, so unless Des has Zoom X foam in her shoes, she's likely still at a disadvantage in terms of gear.
As an aside, it seems that pro runners can't say anything right vis-a-vis the Letsrun fan base. If they're confident, they're arrogant (especially if they're women), and if they voice concerns about anything, no matter how legit, they're whiners and hypocrites.

Exactly. Ritz brought several pairs to Brooks designers when he moved back to Michigan.

Huh?! I'm a former "sub-elite"/elite from the mid/late 80's that works in the tech industry. Adidas sponsored me all ~4 years of chasing the dream. I owe them a lot; and if anything, I despise Nike.
sure you are? LOL!!!!!! sub-elite/elite, LOL!!!! when you post your name, then and only then will you be believed. otherwise it's just another anonymous former elite crapper.
Doesn't really matter. Think you'd be surprised at who posts here.

With all her talk about the Vaporfly, she shows up in a blacked out pair of Brooks prototypes with what looks to be a carbon plate. When you point your finger at someone, there are 3 fingers pointing bring back at you.
Geez Cap, nervous the cheaterflies are going to be banned and all your rio medals and WMM victories will be exposed for the sham that they are?
Any English teachers here? Are they Vaporflys or Vaporflies? Whatever they are, Joyciline and Mary weren't wearing them.
old news. she wore the same ones when she won in Boston
Ho hum. Same whiny Des hater posting under a bunch of different pseudonyms. No one cares what you say about the #1 US woman in the race you know.

Yes, because you're irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure you're well connected and have the anonymous posting names of several big stars!!!!!!! Not drinking the Kool-aid that you are serving.

Bingo!!
The problem is she complained about the shoes. If she hates it so much she should just wear leaves strapped to her feet and show what a true badazz that she is. The thing I think really made her seem petty has been her digs on Shalane.
I don't understand how she can be supported by a shoe company and be critical of improving shoe performance. Otherwise why are we paying any of the shoe companies the mark-up for the shoes.

Chick had a bit of success and now mostly all she does is complains and doesn’t bring it. Do you think she is going to try and copyright her new mantra “swing away” like she tried to do with “keep showing up”?
You assert that they are carbon plate shoes and then you state that, “We have no idea what is in these Brooks prototypes.”
So which is it: Carbon plate or no idea?
Make up your mind and then get back to me.

Did you actually read how the study was done? It was a horribly done study and results should be thrown own. Other shoes have the same zoom x foam and do not give close to the same results as the vaporfly.

So should we just allow runners to only go barefoot? Or maybe they can strap a leaf to their foot. Anything else can be left to interpretation based on what racer is wearing. Seems to be the only fair way.

It’s a sad day when your best return is 1st American. She finished 6th by running stupidly from the gun.
Yes, if Des was offered a shoe with superior technology she would wear it.
Blacked out shoes seem a little odd for a highly paid athlete.
She can’t at least wear an upper that mimics on of their newest racing flats.
Objective is to sell shoes as worn by the athletes.
Do her ears slow her down...
